Is it just me or is Ratts getting just a little harder edged. Still super polite and respectful of others but he is bristling just a touch in his tone for mine.

I think he has a feeling it is a long shot of him keeping his job and he knows if he loses his job he will never coach again at AFL level, it would be so hard to know that it is an up hill battle to keep his job and player just keep on getting injured.

Are my eyes deceiving me, or does Yarran manage to find another gear to get past Howard?

Yarran covered about five metres in two steps after he strode it out and put in the quick steps at the end. You'd hate to be chasing Yarran in a sport such as League or Union where he can just run the ball. Puts in the quick steps like Campese at the end.

My only criticism is that when those same players that cannot catch him have the ball he doesn't gain on them. .. Would love to see him use that pace to run a few more players down and make the opposition wary. ..

So far this year we have had the following players injured at some stage or unavailable for selection due to suspension:

Judd, Murphy, Carazzo, Scotland, Simpson, Waite, Kruezer, Hampson, Warnock, Laidler, Henderson, Yarran, Tuohy, Duigan, Jamison, Watson, and possibly some more that I cannot remember at this stage.

So that covers every player in our midfield that has at least missed a game or more, that covers nearly our whole backline that has missed a game or more, and that covers half our forward line that has missed a game or more and also all 3 of our ruckmen that have missed a game or more.

How can you guys expect a team to deliver when virtually the entire team cannot get out on the park together?

The team does a whole pre-season with these players together, the team develops a structure and team cohesion together, the players have specific roles they play and they know each others strengths, weaknesses and running patterns.

Look at the premiership contenders who have had the second worst inury list as well, and you will see they have had injuries to a max of ONLY 8-9 players at some stage (and some of their injured players are not amongst their best anyway).

Lets look at Sydney (top of the ladder) - hardly had any injuries to date
Lets look at Adelaide (second on ladder) - hardly had any injuries to date
Lets look at Hawthorn - had injuries to 4-5 of their good players at some stage of the season
Lets look at West Coast - had injuries to 7-9 of their players at some stage
Lets look at Collingwood - had injuries to 7-9 of their players at some stage
Lets look at Essendon - had injuries to 7-9 of their players at some stage
Lets look at Geelong - had injuries to nore more than 6 players at some stage
Lets look at North Melbourne - had injuries to no more than 6 of their players at some stage

Now lets look at Carlton - had injuries to 16-17 of their players at some stage (not to mention backup players like Casboult, Mitchell, etc, have been injured at some stage too)

Almost identical to what Marcus Davies ran in the beep, yet we didn't hear that fascinating news in the call of his debut game.

C'mon Seven, get with the program

C'mon Seven, get with the program

Seven kept replaying Dahlhaus' goal that was ruled a point. The flogs then missed the next kick-in. Almost as bad as Luke Darcy pumping up and willing on his former team to win.

Agree completely with this, and with Brian Taylor, well as soon as i hear that he is calling a game i think oh No, he annoys the living shit out of me, especially with his Football Factory crap. Was glad when Carazzo answered that he wasnt the best caller on the lie dectector test, well said he was the best but it came back as a lie. Obviously im not the only one who hates him calling our or anyones games..

Sometimes if I close my eyes and just listen to Spud Frawley, I swear I'm listening to some feral SEN talkback caller whingeing about their team.

I think I just sold some foot candy. No probably hand candy. Ah, it was hard candy. Sorry about the confusion. (And we have 3 more Sat night games!!).

More often than not, this seems to be the case that the top teams have endured a relatively good run with injury.
Never surprises me for this to show up through the course of the season. Why did Essendon and West Coast lose to the extent they did this weekend?
You can ask your second tier players to do their best, but more often than not they'll run out of steam and team performance will suffer.

At Carlton, we haven't even had the luxury of introducing some of those second tiered players because they themselves were injured.
When the likes of Mitchell, Rowe, Davies, Casboult, Bell, White etc. are out for half the year, that forces players that may have been otherwise rested to play in games they shouldn't play in.
Further injuries ensue and then it all becomes one big mess.
If your next gen of promotions are injured when the call comes due to the run of first grade players injured, then it falls to the next next gen, those that would have blooded next year in the usual time cycle. Some can step up, others are not quite so ready and whilst they may do ok in isolated patches their bodies dont have the core fitness that comes from a number of preseasons,, to sustain them for prolonged runs in the seniors. Its why the likes of Boots get a taste for a game or 2 then go back to the seconds where the pace is a little slower.
Mentioned in the call on Sat night was that Cas was only in his second game back from a half season lay off from injury and Bell has also missed considerable time from the seconds with injury. Its a credit to both that they performed well when their chance came considering they have missed so much play, not to mention they dont yet have the core fitness from pre season conditioning.

So far this year, Boots, Bell, Cas, McInnes and Dale have had their first games, 5 débutantes is a good result for any club, and Watson was given more games in his development and most of them look set to continue. Can only bode well for our depth. With any luck we may even get to see them playing in their own right, not filling holes, for example, Cas playing CHF with Waite at FF (or they switch) and Kruze and/or 206 rucking, Watson playing back with Jamo and Hendo along side, and Bell getting runs on the ball with a full and firing midfield around him which includes, Judd, Robbo, Murph, Carrots, Brock and even Simmo. As well as he did on Sat night he may be for even greater value with more silk runners to dish out to.

Despite the tough run we have had I am very happy with what we have in store. I thought we had magnificent depth at the start of the year, I am even more convinced of it now.

Did anybody note that we had 9 players that came off our rookie list, playing on Saturday night?

Thornton
Carrazzo
Garlett
Dale
Bell
Jamison
Joseph
Casboult
Curnow

That's a fair effort.

Everyone noted it. Just thought it too obvious to mention.

To give that some perspective, most clubs field 4 or 5. Also reflects how poor our draft picks have been compared to other clubs

Our draft picks are injured. Surely, it reflects how well we spot talent post draft as well?
