In: One-armed Silvagni
Out: Casboult

Although, I think in reality that no changes will be made, unless forced through mid-week injury.

I'd love to play someone else instead of Betts, but we'd be completely gifting Durdin a game, which isn't Teague's MO, as the veteran gets the benefit of the doubt until they are on death's bed.

We patiently await the returns of TDK, Martin, Silvagni, Fisher, Curnow and Parks.

More strength & speed at the stoppages, more run on the outside, better kicking off half-forward. Players that actually try to open up the game by hand and foot, instead of dinky kicks out wide to pass off responsibility unless someone else sends them cartwheeling into space.

Don't need all that endurance base if you're bringing it out of the stoppages easier and creating better opportunities inside 50.

No changes.
Line in the sand.
Agree. I only watched the 2nd half of the VFL match today (so my opinion is based solely on that) but I only think Dow and Setters were a class above. Honey, Owies, LOB and Williamson had some nice moments but haven't knocked the door down yet. Also think Dow and Setters can only come in if they are going to play as onballers - as none of our onballers are likely to be dropped and also as Cunnigham had a solid game both stay in the VFL for this week. Keep the same team - however if JSOS is back I'd do a straight swap with Casboult. Give the team the chance to beat the Bombers and if we don't show improvement I'd be the first in line looking to make changes.

As much as I'd like to see Newnes and Casboult in the reserves as well as Betts rested. Who exactly makes way for them?

Kennedy perhaps. It then stops there. Setterfield best works on the inside and he isn't getting any look in with Williams being favoured over him.
Dow looks nice in the twos, but doesn't excite me whenever he is named in the main side right now.

Selecting anybody else would be a further acceptance of any mediorcre output from players.

Dow needs to get some confidence in the 2s. It's mostly above the shoulders with that lad. As much as I love him, Eddie should be rested.

Outs : Newnes, SPS, Betts all have to go.

Doesn't matter where on the ground people keep wanting SPS moved to, for the sake of CFC he needs to be in the reserves.
Newnes is basically ineffective.

Unless Setterfiekd is standing out in the reserves then play some players that haven't had all the chances in the world and stunk it up. He really needs to earn his way back in.
I want to see the likes of Owies, philp, Ramsay, Honey etc get a go.

These players we got for Depth like Newnes, Betts and even Pittonet should not have a permanent spot in the best 22 and whilst they are permanent we have no chance.

good side except for LOB who will never make it & is weak/afraid to put his body into harm's way

We win this one.

Docherty to the wing. He's become a liability defensively, dropping marks and shaky with his disposal.

Persevere with Stocker in defence. He's tenacious and will come good with his disposal. We might have finally found a mid-sized defender who can actually defend and isn't named Lachie Plowman. It's an indictment on the rest of the defence that Plowman is our best match-up for Cameron, and a testament to Plowman that he blankets him so well.

Not sure anyone comes in just yet, unless it's a returning JSOS. Keen to get TDK back out there in a few weeks. Prefer trying Doc on the wing rather than bringing O'Brien in prematurely.

Betts simply can not be selected again this year, you can not be gifting game to a 34 yo who’s only output is chasing hard.. Aparently he is in the side for his defensive pressure.. well he is averaging less than 2 tackles a game, so not even performing that well.

Newnes needs a spell, Casboult has had enough chances... and Gibbons probably gets 1 more chance.. Pitto also looks like he needs a spell but TDK won’t be ready.. We kept Murphy and Betts on, makea me think we should have kept Humfrey.

Betts needs to go. We must have players hit up at the ball. Honey is a much much better option.

I dearly hope they persist with giving Cunners midfield minutes for a long long time. He’s not perfect. He can get better and better and better the more they play him, and let him learn. Watch the tape during the week. He’s far too good to be playing VFL football. Stop bringing him up and letting him get lost in a forward pocket. Gwe his positives are great. So perfectly clean below his knees. Pace. Hits targets either side with ease.

Unfortunately there wasn't a whole lot pushing the door down to come in from the VFL outside Setterfield and Dow. But I'd still make 4 changes for next week.

The other thing we've got to get right is some sort of stoppage setup and midfield depth/rotation. I don't know who the mids coach is but at local level there's a basic template of 3 roles that need to be filled at the clearance. The big bodied clearance mid, defensive stopper, runner/attacker. A lot of other clubs it is easy to see their setups and cover for spots. For us we throw in 3 names at times and they aren't capable of playing the 3 roles. Hence the 5+ goal runs.

A lot more focus on playing guys in their natural positions apart from Murphy as a permanent small forward & Stocker down back. Two goals even if 1 was junk time is two more than Gibbons and Betts. And if McKay had to pick 3 guys he'd want kicking the footy inside 50 he'd be one of them.

SPS into the midfield. Williams down back pinch hitting as a 4th or 5th midfield rotation.

Cripps having Kennedy and Setterfield as support so when he does go forward we don't collapse.

Same goes with Curnow as the defensive stopper, many criticise his use of the ball but he plays a role in that midfield setup and is overused doing it because nobody else seems like they're told to do his job when they go in. Last night there physically wasn't someone capable mind you.

Walsh will do Walsh things but how good would it be to see Dow/Cunners/SPS go in there to actually help him out so he isn't a broken man by 25. Walsh can't do what he does for 100% of game time so we need 1-3 others stepping up in there and all 4 are capable in bursts.

Docherty given some freedom to hunt the footy and make mistakes away from the D50 because right now his confidence is shot. He costs us a couple of goals a week and he knows it and the gorilla on the back is getting bigger and bigger.

Owies wasn't great yesterday but Eddie needs a break or confidence with a bag in the reserves.

I doubt any of this happens. But I also doubt we are 3-4 after next weekend.

Second last in inside 50 tackles this must change .
Our forward pressure is a joke we cannot just wait for the likes of the 2 jacks and fish to return .
We must be proactive to find the right mix rather than reward players that just arent getting the job done .
Casboult and Murphy in the same forwardline together with Mcgovern and Mckay the forward mix is killing us amongst other things .
I really dont care who takes second ruck reponsibilities for 5 minutes a quarter but Cas love the big lug is done must be taken out of the side his mobility on the ground is killing us get creative Teague .
Cripps Mcgovern ruck dont care we cant wait for TDK to return any longer .
To be replaced by a small with the directive to tackle and pressure Josh Honey for mine .
Betts for a rest or sub allowing Owies to be given an opportunity .

Teague needs to stop being so pigheaded this side has given him absolutely no reason to show so much faith in older entrenched players .
Would love Jack back in the side but best to err on the side of caution .

Williams is not getting it done imo to the backline for a full game lets see what Stocker can produce in the middle as we must get better ball users delivering into our forwardline .
Walsh to a wing with Cottrell to give us gut runners on both wings .
Ed must tag from the get go .
Mcgovern with a directive to push up on the lead he's our leading target across half forward -wing .
Kennedy FP beautiful kick at goal only needs a few opportunities to make a difference .
In- Kennedy Owies Honey .
Out -Betts- sub, Casboult Newnes .

Why is Betts rested? This is the reason the club is in this mess....we don't make the hard calls

Eddie kicks three and we probably come back and win it, so arguing to get rid of him is insane. He chases, harasses, shares and encourages, which is more than half the others do. Yes he is getting on, but he is still valuable in this set up.
An Essendon supporter I work with warned me about Saad. He plays when it suits him, and goes missing when the heat is on and is very good at getting cheap stats. He proved that last wekk in the final quarter when the games was dead. That probably sums him up to date. Williams is another one that goes missing when the heat is on. Cripps and Walsh created all of the drive.

We will beat Essendon next week, no doubt. Hopefully we will see 4 quarters of solid footy.

Hope Cuningham & Stocker both get another game. We need to see these guys play multiple games at the top level.
Our improvement as a team will only come from younger guys stepping up but they need to be given a fair go at it.
Couple of the older boys could use a spell in the ressies.

Agreed.
When is the heat going to be applied to our so called recruits?
They are being paid 3+million per year and have delivered didly squat.

Saad-goes missing and is great at filling up his stats when the game is over
Williams-Saw him the first quarter then disappeared
Martin-Played 1 match, and we have 5 or 6 players that could fill his role
McGovern-below average player earning above average wages

Can only hope things will turn but atm i can only see another 4 possible wins (Crows, Freo, Roos and Suns). Hence there is no point playing Betts from here on in. Let him play in ressies and he can teach the small forwards there. Play durdin and let him develop in the seniors.
