Made the mistake of looking at facebook comments. It makes me sad we have that many dropkick supporters. But I guess every team has them...

I stay away from it. Feel for those Bulldogs support staff who moderate it. Makes the likes of Bay 13, TIA and League Unlimited look like mensa conventions in comparison.

Bulldust!
We can only afford to play one of these guys in the same team.
Watch the replay and see how often they look for the cheap kick or 'cheat' out the back. Never/rarely in front. It cost us big time

No, I mean literally. They kicked 30 points between them. Take them out, plus the 20 points we actually lost by, and we lose by 50 points. No matter how well they do, people are still going to say they are shit.

Gia had more tackles than anyone on our side with 6, and Higgins had 4 himself.
They both had good games.

the fact is they kicked 1 goal, its not as if its a one off either which would make it forgivable because both are shocking kicks and it will continue to happen in the future.

vs Cats Jones + Roughead 1 goal
vs GC Jones 1 goal
vs Norf Roughead 0 goals
vs Cwood Jones + Roughead 0 goals
vs GWS Jones + Roughead 1 goals
vs Melb Jones + Roughead 2 goals
vs StK Jones + Roughead 1 goal
vs Ade Jones + Roughead 3 goals
vs WC Jones + Roughead 1 goal

Its not as if I have been impatient, 9 rounds is ample time to show something. this combo does not work, that kind of history for our 2 KPF forwards is unacceptable. I rather take the risk to play hill + campbell and forego the 1-3 goal roughead/jones provide, at least this way we wont die wondering. If Campbell/Hill doesnt work out we can always revert back.

Getting shots 30m from goal is the hard bit - if you keep doing that often enough the goals will come. Give Jones, Cordy and Roughy another 50 games under their belt and watch out.

The whole forward line needs a re jig. However, I thought Roughy is becoming a good target and Jones had a great game at CHF. Dickson is also great as a forward pocket. If we can get a crumbing forward in the next draft, then I think we should be starting to push Gia out of the side.
At the moment, we have no choice as he's playing the role of teaching the younger kids.

It'd be a nightmare. Some of them still want us to get Fev! :p

I rarely look in there but needs better moderation. I offered to help myself but they didn't take me up on it. Fairly poor if it is the 'official' club page

Pleased tonight that we did better than I expected and exciting when Skinner goaled and looked like we had a chance. Disappointing to waste those chances. Just a bit of polish would have been gold.

The senseless bashing of Higgins and Gia thread- post Cats game.

Keep it in here, fellas.

Those two kicked more goals between them tonight than you'd have brain cells to rub together.

At the moment the only two players who look like kicking multiple goals are Gia and Higgins. They may not be the best defensively (although they both tackled very well tonight), but we need them mid sized players that can kick
a couple a game. Both will kick over 30 goals by the end of the year which would be a pretty good return.

So would you be happier with the game in 2010 when we got smashed by 101 points? Seriously, pay credit to the team that took it up to Geelong tonight

Seriously, Igloo...you're a Mod here, can only assume you know a bit about football...
...I'll go thru the replay tomorrow and note their every movement.

I have no reason what-so-ever to be judgemental about either player, just calling it as I see it.
Both [worse than] poor.

Gia's been good, coming to a natural end of a quality career...
...Higgins has never gotten anywhere near the level people have hoped for (and, of course, he can't help the expectation), but people have to accept he's an ordinary footballer with good skills but poor work ethic.

It's hilarious that people here are bagging Pearce for such a rubbish game on a 'pathetic forwardline scab' [paraphrasing of course] in Motlop...yet look at the facts.
Statistically, Motlop and Higgins have had an almost identical season...
...beyond stats I'm prepared to say that Motlop has had a far bigger impact on games with his decision making, skills and pressure.

Again, I really like how we are going about it. The simple fact is that we haven't got the talent in the forward line just yet to be winning those close games.
Jones, Cordey and Roughead are at least showing a strong upside for young, understrength men at this stage.

Just saying that I don't believe Gia or Higgins will be on the list next year...and, imho, rightly so.

As i say we can afford one. It is costing us with two, no doubt.
Higgins rarely goes into the midfield and is becoming more of a one trick pony. Gia, well .... he kicks goals when he has clean possie. One...just one. Macca knows it too, Gia out with soreness a couple of weeks ago and Higgins starting as the sub.

The Bulldogs won the contested possessions 148 to 130 and clearances 45 to 29.
The forward line is the problem but generally the team is playing a strong brand of football. We need our key forwards to improve or we need to recruit and develop some others. We will get there. In many ways this was similar to the Collingwood game, not enough polish up forward and a couple of defensive errors.
The Bulldogs are certainly good enough, even at this stage of beating several teams around about the same mark and may even cause some upsets later in the season by beating some top teams. I was disappointed by the loss but encouraged by the general style of their game and their attitude.

Re: The senseless bashing of Higgins and Gia thread- post Cats game.

Yeah, well said Man of Clay. I've bashed them both in the past, but they kept us in the game tonight. They got the jobs done at the right times. While either, or both might be/might not be at the club in the next few years, we have no choice but to play atm.

I don't know if you welcome comments from other teams' supporters. If not, feel free to delete.

My impressions of some random selection of your players were this:
Lake- if you didn't have him, you'd be stuffed. 100% awesome.
Skinner- Chocolates or boiled lollies with this guy. You subbed him on for the 2nd half and his 3rd quarter was deplorable but the 4th was full of magic. Also, the rat tail is disgusting.
That ranga #19 (jones?)- feck that guy can take a mark but can't kick. Is he Tom Hawkins in a bloodnut suit?
Cooney- It's a pity about that knee thing. He is a very good player. You'll play finals this year, so manage him properly and he'll give you everyting in September.
Giansiracusa- 12 letters. 6 syllables. 100% awesome.
Milhaus- extremely lively. Disposal occasionally rushed and dubious, which I put down to inexperience. He'll be magic for you in a year or two.

My rant is the post match coverage by Channeel Seven. 40 minutes of coverage that didnt have one interview with anyone form the Bulldogs.

There were interviews with Chapman, Hawkins, Scott .... and agin for his post match media conference. They also included recorded interviews with Lenny Hayes and Guy McKenna.

Very ordinary consideration for dogs supporters who were waiting to see something from the Bulldogs.

I'll bite

Rewind to about 3 mins into the second.

Both of theses guys were 'around' the ball, I hesitate to use the phrase "going for it".

Rather than want the ball, make it their own and win it, they both let it bounce and watched it go out of bounds.

Inexcusable.

Higgins was decent enough tonight, showed a bit.

Gia, I cannot watch him. I know he kicks a few, but for mine, his forward pressure is not there. For a forward, its almost as important as what you do when you don't have the ball as when you do; and when he doesn't have it, he is non existent.

He was hunched over quite a bit tonight. Is he carrying an injury?

I dont know - as a forward, particularly a small forward, you have to commit to where the ball should go, in order to give the midfielders something to aim at, and if it isnt put to your advantage then you can be horribly out of position.

I dont see how Gia gets a belting when Sherman ran around like a headless chook all day and nobody says boo.

Yeah, well said mate. However, you are off the mark with the finals plug. Even you guys will struggle to make the finals with the comp being a lot tighter.
