How did it go guys?

The event was really good.

While everyone was getting seated, Country Roads, Dire Straights, Dare to be the Bear and Holy Grail played. Dom and Mike did a quick introduction, Fages then entered the stage to Eye of the Tiger and the questions started. His first answer went for about 15 minutes.

I won't say anymore to not spoil the podcast for people, but it was very insightful and inspirational in parts. Everyone gained a lot of learnings.

Best part was when Fagan and Fish got into a fist fight. Hope they don't cut it!

Well that was bloody wonderful. Well worth the price of admission and then some. Make sure you listen in folks,

We are incredibly lucky to have Dom and Mike bringing us together and widening our fan experiences.

Thank you guys, love your work.

Yeah that was very excellent. Fages giving Dom a dressing down and a withering look on stage was priceless.

Rather him than me!

Great to bump into a few of the Lions BigFooty family as well 😁

Very enjoyable night, he has this uncanny ability to keep a crowd invested with his Grandad wit.
Keeps things light hearted and comical.
Can certainly see why the players play for him.

Spoiler:
Was an interesting little bit when he asked the players whether they were still listening.

Yes, that was significant – also that revelation about the players’ mindset when he first turned up in ’16. A real eye opener.

The man himself – humble, articulate, intelligent, incredibly hard working and just a lover of the game.

How lucky we are to have him.

Yeah that was shocking -- you could hear the gasps through the room. That's why we weren't able to recruit anyone but cast-offs and misfits for years, and why any youngsters with talent were out the door as soon as the opportunity came up.

Speaks volumes about how unsuited Leppa was for that team too.

Hard not to look back and recognise how bad the Culcha was.

Also highlights how overrated being a hardass on the players is. You have to make them accountable but I think it’s best left as an occasional club in the bag.

I have never been able to say anything on here about a long conversation I had at an Intraclub just after Fages started at the club.
What this person had to say about the club during the previous administration were horrific.
Really horrible stuff and a culture that no one would have wanted to be a part of.
This person had very close links to someone very high up in the club (almost no higher) and I can’t imagine why they would have had any reason to lie.

So those comments by Fages last night didn’t shock me, but just brought back those memories of that conversation.

We know a parent of one of the 2023 draftees and they were really worried when we drafted him because he'd never been away from home before.

Problems quickly dispelled. He loves it. The place just has a great atmosphere , everyone gets included, honest feedback and encouragement ever step of the way. The older guys really go out of their way to help those just learning the ropes and trying to improve and a lot of the credit must go to Fagan primarily, the other coaches and the staff.

Word gets around. We don't have any problem attracting good players anymore.

Leppa played most of his footy under Lethal.

For all the deserved love Lethal cops now he admits that he wishes he knew what he knows now when he was coaching. Wisdom comes with experience and intelligent reflection. He's not afraid to say his attitude towards coaching has modified a little since he retired. Plus this generation of players is different from the previous and light years away from those who played under Barassi ,Parkin ,Hafey etc. Plus the game was a lot more violent in those eras which was a factor in how you were coached.

I know people are hard on Leppa but he was dealt a dud hand to begin with and did what he thought best in the mindset of either toughening up or not making it. I'm sure he'd be a lot different now.

Maybe. Reading between the lines on some of the personnel movement at the coaching/footy admin level out of collingwood this season, not sure he's any better at avoiding personal conflict. He's also moved into list management and away from direct contact with the players there. I've never met the guy though so I'm just speculating.

The situation he walked into in 2014 was bloody tough and would have been super hard to deal with. The senior players then also weren't great culture setters either and we'd drafted poorly and failed to retain most of our promising picks.

He's older and wiser now I'm sure, but given he grabbed a reserves player by the throat I'm disinclined to trust his temperamant to work with the modern player.

Ha ha . Yeah.

Leppa started playing at the end of the era where if you didn't toughen up and stand up for yourself you just got bullied out of the game/contests.

I'm not saying he'd be a good coach any more ,just that he carries all of the flak for the era when he coached us and the pressures he faced and lack of support might have done his head in on occasions. It wasn't just him who should bear the blame.
