Caddy Grigg Conca Castagna all missed round 1, round 2 saw Houli and Rance out Castagna back, Jack effectively out from early second quarter as well. Entered yesterday without Rance Riewoldt Caddy Grigg Conca & Houli, lost Short 5 minutes in and Cotchin before the game ended plus Rioli playing hurt. So we've had 4 missing then 6 and now 8 if we could cover all of them with no issues we'd be the greatest team ever assembled and would be $1.000001 favourite for the flag.

Fact of the matter is we're not a bad side, we're a good side in a bad situation, one that not many sides have dealt with over the journey.
Most people are happy Grigg isn't playing, and that conca left, and want short and castagna out of the team anyway. You can't turn around and claim them as injuries hampering our team at the same time. This game was realistically the first where we were really missing a decent amount of quality players but we looked shit against carlton and Collingwood too.

Common sense is not claiming grigg conca short and castagna as team ruining absentees when most wanted them gone anyway.

More that it shows 'most' here don't have a clue.

Dont get me wrong i like those players but if we dont even have the depth to replace them, then we deserve where we are now. Im filthy that the club let all our depth walk last year.

You need to let players leave in order to make space and opportunity for others to come in.

Stack (for example) wouldn't be on our list if we hadn't let them go (and even if he was, he wouldn't be playing).

In order to find new best 22 players, we have to let players who wont make that level move on.

We coulda pissed off menadue ellis and markov instead. Those 3 will contribute nothing this year and be gone anyway.

Couldn’t stand in front of conca and the dough and I dunno Lloyd at 29 is as good an idea as playing kids.
Miles and ellis, well Miles is depth but he wanted to go

We have had tons of injuries so far this season , no shit it's gonna effect us. Especially when the injuries are significant ones to key personnel .

We are a good team , but at the moment we need to really improve and remember the basics etc. It's as simple as that. I don't subscribe to the theory that our flag was a fluke or that we are only the fab 4 + duds like some have implied here.

Anyway back the team and keep supporting them, they deserve it , although ATM it is really frustrating

Very hard to much, I wonder if missing key personell and the rule changes?

Dimma is close friends with Clarko.
Clarko is ruthless cutting surplus players.
It will be interesting to see who gets shown the door at year's end.
Ellis, Grigg, Markov, Menadue?
Open up salary space for a key defender.

Grigg said on the news last week a new contract would be nice but it's a team game and he knows his times almost up.
I reckon it's odds on he will be delisted, and then go straight into coaching.

You don't free up salary cap space with players like that. They'd be on minimum wage (or close to), and the replacements would be on the same.

Grigg & Ellis might get a few bucks more, but not enough to go shopping with (resigning the likes of Higgins would probably take up much of it)

Ruck coach!

Haha.
Dimma's always said he has the smartest footy brain in our group, thats why i reckon now if fit would be a massive inclusion.

It's one thing people here keep missing. Coaches try to select the best team, not the best 22 players.
With our Captain, and both VCs out, experience, on field leadership and good footy brains are likely to be selected ahead of potential and talent.

I know it's not like for like, in terms of salaries, but I was suggesting we start making personnel cuts anyway.
Grigg is intelligent enough to be in the first wave of voluntary retirements with a coaching assistant role beckoning.
Like I wrote pre-season, the key mission in the next 2-3 years is recruitment of a key defender.
Clarkson is quite open in terms of discussing the future of players, even Roughead.
The only flaw I see with the Clarkson approach is the loss of Hodge, who is providing valuable expertise at Brisbane, shaping as a threat.

Given how Lynch's contract is heavily backended, I'd say we're going to have to grow our own.

The war chest is spent.

Not at all as Rance, Riewoldt, Prestia are out of contract at the end 2021.

and guess when Lynch's contract starts requiring big bucks?

Why do you think we're not paying him more now?

I know Lynch's contract is back ended but the extra amount is less than what we are paying Tross, JR8 and Prestia. Apparently Dusty's contract is front ended so there would be a saving there plus we don't have pay part of Lids salary at the end of this season.

Either way we need a blend of developmental players and readymades.
Hopefully we can recruit a key defender as a readymade.
Not so concerned for mids and forwards at this stage.
