he has been someone who I enjoy watching but I've always struggled with knowing where he sits in the games best players.

His best is as good as any. I don't doubt that but is there a reason people don't discuss how inconsistent he is?
Last season he had 8 games with under 15 possessions and plenty of midfield time. As well as another 5 or so games in the teens. In the modern day with high possession footy where good mids get 30 each week he seems to go missing a lot during the season.

I heard Hinkley say that he is on par with gary ablett junior and whilst ablett loves his cheap 1 2 handballs he is one of the great mids of the past. So where does he go down?

I rate him very highly as he's a goal kicker and he makes things happen.
That basketball bouncing thing he did against us was uncanny.
Mid/fwd AA.

As a random guy on the internet, I neither rate him terribly highly nor rate him below average. Thank you for asking. I love the internet

Not a massive possession winner but I think he is on a par with anyone in the league for his ability to impact a play, a quarter, a game.

Clearly struggling with injury last year where the OP stats are from.

To think he is the player he is with the horrible knee injury he sustained in 2012, even this year he is starring after an off season which had him being treated for testicular cancer.

Simply a star of the game.

couldn't have been that injured if he played every game and was all-australian
The "word on the street" was a groin injury. Maybe OP. Given what happened in the off season it might have been more sinister than it was rumoured.
Played forward almost all year as opposed to the 3 years before where he was probably 65-35 in the mids. Kicked 47 (?) goals but tackle count was way down iirc because he just couldnt cover the ground. Emergence of Sam Powell Pepper covered his mid absence to a degree.

Somewhere between Russell Ebert and every non Port player in their eyes.
nah there was a thread just the other week about this
just in afl he was clearly behind tredders for the power let alone the Eberts, cahills williams hell Buckley's 1990 season can be argued as the best ever

Probably the best small forward in the league at the moment, given Betts has t been himself this year and Cyril is injured.

Will never get seen as a pure forward because of his time in the middle. But his versatility makes him so dangerous. But you can say the same about Martin and Dangerfield.
