Preview Rookie draft- who do we get?

Waldhuter was a huge shock to me but im tipping port will take him as a rookie. There's probably question marks over his pace.

I seriously think we should consider Jackson Coleman, big lad with a massive tank, can play at both ends of the ground. I seen him a few times at TAC cup level and i was impressed with what i saw. Needs some development especially with his kicking but worth the punt.

If we want a small forward we should probably look at the likes of Tim Totevski and Seb Gotch. Seb was probably the best small forward in the TAC cup this year.

I reckon we lack some aggressive back pocket types and should consider Jack Charleston who has some real grunt about him. He can read the play well and just has a willingness to win his own ball.

Waldhuter produced some excellent repeat sprint times so pace is not an area he lacks. It is his disposal that needs work.

I am open to drafting talls, but I think Sheahan and Roberts are more likely IMO.

If we wanted a small forward, those you mentioned sound pretty good. Add Williams and Nelson to that list of course.

I don't think we need an aggressive back pocket to be honest. Tynan will probably start his career there and gradually move up the ground. Bartram and Strauss are others fighting for that position also.

In all, I think Tom Couch is pretty much locked in for a rookie spot. From reports, is a solid runner who is tough in the clinches. Secondly, we will certainly draft another tall utility. Inviting Sheahan and Roberts indicates this. Roberts probably has more upside but Sheahan is likely to have an impact straightaway. Thirdly, drafting a mature age players seem high on our priorities. Nicolson, Clutterbuck and Williams are all solid options. Lastly, I think we will draft an 18 yr old midfielder who got overlooked. Nelson, Waldhuter are the ones I want.

Dream Scenario
1st pick - Nelson
2nd pick - Roberts
3rd pick - Clutterbuck
4th pick - Couch

Sarcasm?

Not cool. :(
I don't think he was being sarcastic DW.

I've found some of the posts in this thread quite enlightening as well as I have nfi about the rookie draftees or the kids training with us.

Same. I could tell you what size jockstrap player #48 wears for MFC and what year he was born. But when it comes to future drafteees I've got no clue.

I'd like to know.*

Who cares if he likes the horses

I love the horses im not an addict

Thats like saying he likes cake so he must be a fat ****

Blokes a ripping guy thats more then you can say for alot of footballers out there

I bet you love the horses, I bet you love them real good.

I suggest when you read forum posts that you take into consideration that they can be written with laid back humor and certainly not intended to offend anyone. I am sure if you do you will have a much more enjoyable time!

I love cake, mmm...

Fletcher Roberts would be a great pick up. I think he just lacks the height to be played as a ruckman but saying that his tap work is very good. I've seen him a few times play full forward and i was pretty impressed. He has a strong mark and he's very agile for his size. Worthy rookie pick for sure.

Hi guys, I have heard Melbourne recruiters are potentially looking at Toby Stribling from South Adelaide, previously listed by Fremantle. I am by no means saying he is a lock, just that Melbourne are/have looked at him.

Stribling: 'AFL interest a suprise'

TOBY Stribling was as surprised as anyone when he learnt there had been interest in him from AFL clubs mid-season.

He had a good season with South Adelaide and definitely has potential to play at a higher level. Also fits within the target age demographic.

I read the article and he does seem decent. However, where did you get Melbourne being interested from?

Clubs and players don't hide who they are meeting. The SA football community is not overly large. As I mentioned before, he was just one of the players being looked at by your club, I just thought i'd raise his name as it had not been mentioned on this forum.

We definitely won't be getting Waylen Manson..

Good to see we have invited a few to training, find out a bit about how the players will go training in an AFL environment, hopefully makes the decisions clearer for the recruiters

I've heard 2nd hand that the Dees have told Leigh Williams that they will definatly pick him next week. Obviously take my comments with a grain of salt because we've all heard a million stories of players been promised selection and it not eventuating. I thought this board mite find it interesting none the less.

Apparently he has been tearing it up at training so this comes as little surprise. Who'd you hear it from mate? ;)

Thanks for the news, I wont take it personally if it doesn't work out but he'd be an exciting pick. Do you have anything to do with him/seen him play?

Does anyone get the impression that Neeld doesn't want KPP's who are built like a twig? Clark, then Sellar, and possibly Williams. All big units.

If we did pick Williams, it begs the question as to what roles Cook and Fitzpatrick will play at Casey. Also T. McDonald is training with the forwards, and he's also a big unit.

No I haven't seen him play, his uncle is a client of my brothers, its a bit of a stretch but we'll see on tuesday. All I've heard is that he is a big unit who plays a at both ends but more predominantly at chb. All the best for next year, its been great to see the Dees take this pre season by the balls and get active

He's kicked 80 odd goals the last 2 years up forward for Norwood in the EFL. But thanks for putting it out there and your source, I definitely agree its no guarantee but the training reports about him suggest he's going well.

I think we are trying to groom McDonald into a swingman, a bit like Hurley. Fitzpatrick will continue to be a ruck/forward whilst Cook as a genuine CHF.

I'm certain we will pick up at least one tall in the rookie draft, whether it's Williams or not.

Tall Backs

Frawley
Rivers
Davis

Tall Forwards

Clark
Watts
Cook

Ruck/Forward

Martin
Fitzpatrick

Back and Forward

McDonald
Sellar
*Possibly Williams

Neeld has come in and made drafting talls a priority. Now we have options; a luxrury we didn't have under Failey.
