Roos raffle too dear

With the North News I also received a book of raffle tickets. I reckon $5 a ticket is too dear.
At work we all buy each others tickets, chocolates etc from school, kinda or footy club to help each others cause. But every other ticket this year is $2 and everyone buys one.
I am reluctannt to take $5 raffle tickets to work - bit much to ask for non Kangas. I wonder how many other members feel the same?
Its alright to say the prizes are good but there are only three - a mazda, a jetski (whats ebays address) and a plasma screen.
Just too dear to ask people who aren't supporters.

Yes, I thought the same thing. Surely it would be easier to make them $2 but still have a bundle of $50 ? Maybe they have found they bring in more $$ overall when they are $5.

What about the $300 raffle ?? Happy to support the club but I would have thought a $100 or even $150 ask would have been better. Still.. I guess that means more time on the phone for them trying to get takers.

No harm in asking though gk? Just ask nicely.............and also perhaps do the same with other people you bump into regularly. They can always say no, which is fine, and there's only ten tickets per booklet anyway. I don't think it'll be too hard to find ten buyers, considering what's on offer.

I'll inevitably just buy the whole bloody book, like usual. That's more due to my laziness though

Good luck all with your ticket selling anyway...

Cheers

I reckon $5 is OK (just) for a raffle ticket when the prizes come to nearly $70,000. However, I objected yesterday to the call I got asking if I'd like to buy a $300 ticket. I'd be interested to know how they go with that one. Regular supporters aren't going to fork out $300 for a raffle ticket - only those with more money than sense.

I'm the same - will buy the book myself but I just think its a big ask for the average supporter. Keep it to $2 and less prize value if needs be. A Mazda 6 is cheaper than what they are offering and a couple of plasmas would be better and the tickets at $2.

Mind you I wont be whinging if I win.

lol.............which is exactly how I console myself as I write out the inevitable cheque for the whole book every year too.

Good luck then gk.....and point taken (re the average footy supporter with a family etc).

5 members in the house means we get sent 5 x raffle books at the start of each season. Did the half right thing and paid for 3 x books.

Mrs Lidge (a passive Bumbers supporter) unbeknown to yours truly splashed out and bought me one of the $300 tickets. Thought that was a bit over the top - but the cash goes to a good cause and the odds of winning this raffle a lot better. Which reminds me, must check the MasterCard statement - I suspect she went on a spree that day at Highpoint and had the guilts (motive for buying the ticket).

Received another book in the mail last night - but will send that one back to the club.

Surely the marketing gurus at the club can devise an alternate method of fund raising.

Does the club do anything right?

Based on this Forum the answer is no, 90 times out of 100.

Loads of hindsight experts here.

too cheap don't make money, too dear don't sell any. No Win either way.

The club is always happy to hear about ways of making money.

Marketing Idea's, 9 times out of 10 cost resources to start up/ set up, we don't have them. Funny thing that, not too many sure fire ways of making money, no risk. If you know any call the Doc or Geoff Walsh they are waiting for your call.

And before the comebacks, I have money where my mouth is. It's not hard to get involved at the club. I know a few others on here that do. Just ask.

Not much difference in those sums IMHO.

I reckon if you can afford $100-150 for a footy club raffle with a 1 in 1000 (as an example) chance of winning, you can probably afford $300 - so it's appealing to the same demographic.

I am of the same opinion of many of you here $5.00 is way to much & have not bought a raffle ticket for quite some time. Another thing is those raffle ticket sellers at the ground on home match games harrassing people to by raffle tickets when I believe half the money doesn't even go to the club, boy I get annoyed at that

Having said that I support the club in other ways by buying a membership ticket & have been a proud member for 20 years & I became a member when we only had 3,000 members or something. Another thing I do is buy all my stuff through the club like jumpers, scarfs, premiership memorablia & contribute to the cheer squad raffle where you get a ticket number & you win if the winning margin by either side matches the number on the ticket.

I would certainly by raffle tickets if they were $2.00 but not $5.00 it is just to much for the average Joe Blow in my opinion.

What you said Melly017:)

Given the prizes, i don't think $5 is too much.

For comparison, our tickets are $3 each. There are five prizes, totalling $35,000.
Thewlis Dish tells me your prizes are worth about $70,000, if so, $5 is decent value.

BTW I've not received anything from North since my membership came. Who would be the best person for me to call to get it all sorted?
Not fussed about getting the magazine, but wouldn't mind getting some raffle tickets to sell.

I've bought into the big raffles that North are running, I know it's a lot of money and I know that I have buckleys hope of winning, but to say that i've got more money than sense is dissapointing to hear.
If (shudder ) North ever folds or amalgamates my concience will be clear as I will know that I have tried my best to keep them solvent.
Maybe I should just blow my money on the nags, or the local ho.:(

Yes, it is all actually about raising funds for the club. My response to the phone call was "happy to support the club"..

I had the same problem and got a reply from Anthony Hargreaves.

There's no doubting you GoNorth. I tell you what though, it just took me half an hour to write my name & address 10 times in those stupid little boxes on the tickets!!!!!! I'd rather they charge $10/ticket & send someone out to fill the damn things in for ya!!!!! In all seriousness.....
