Roos ripe for AFL takeover - Caro

IT was on AW on Tuesday night, I think, after 6.30pm. IT had just returned from a holiday. I can't remember if it was Tues or Weds night but it was IT'S regular slot (I know, I almost threw up myself after typing that). IT made a point of mentioning how fantastic it was for the club to have the new place erected and opened (settle down), as she (IT) never thought it possible!
As much as that's the slightest sign of humility, I won't be happy till her face is pushed smack bang into the bloody Humble Pie!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, look, I'm as much of a caro-hater as the rest but if she did say that then, well, really, whate do we expect? Its a good as we will get.

Pretty much my thoughts at the time, whilst going for a run. She said it and did so whilst fighting over the top of Derr Brain and Geraldo and their constant interruptions. She asked them to "ssssssshhh........I really want to make this point...........".

Still though, I want (hope for) more from her. A major double page spread in the Satdy Age on the club's rise from the ruins. DO IT CARO!

The monster will do whatever is necessary to stay alive. It has been found wanting and must be feeling the pressure of being out of favor.
Even it's masters in DimWit and Gillian have deserted it and moved on.
We have to move on and ignore it.

That I would love to see. I didn't hear the radio stuff, but if she made a point of saying it like that, well, good on her. A tiny bit of respect returns.

SLF, that implies that you once had respect for it?

I'll happily say that I respect what Caroline Wilson did for advancing female sports journalists and I have many times over the journey enjoyed stuff she's written, not just about footy.

That said, my feelings about her pathetic stuff as regards North over the last say 5 years are well known and I couldn't be bothered repeating them.

If Caro has been man enough to admit she got this one wrong, then fine, yep, I'll say fair play. She still has a long way to go but I am not a churlish man and anyway, with Rebecca's Journey, I got all the revenge on her I'll ever need.

I want to see it in print so that I can cut it out and keep it. How many people actually would have heard her say it on 3AW? Not many, I'm guessing. Did she ever print an apology to Eugene about her claims that he wasn't invited to Dean Laidley's farewell?

Rick Aylett really needs to tell this scrag where to go!

Rereading that article made my blood boil (yet again!). We should never forget what we went through back then.

And rereading NimChief's comment made me laugh. Knowing what we know now, I don't think Rick Aylett was ever going to tell anyone where to go (except maybe the club to the GC). Does anyone know the real story about R. Aylett? Did he genuinely deserve the CEO's job or was he just put in as a puppet to implement his daddy's evil plans?

BTW, how about if we call the new facilities 'The Pipedream Palace'? :)

Yep. A full mea culpa in print on the back page of The Age is still required for anything approaching absolution.

But it is a start. We are a generous people at North and can help even the most vile of sinners to find their way ...

I don't think he was a puppet, just clueless and because he was unqualified and clueless he was easy to manipulate by the pro-relocationists who had a fair bit of business accumen behind them, just not a whole lot of faith or loyalty left after a couple of decades of deck chair shuffling while the Titanic slowly sank.

The only thing that group had a track record of was looking for the quick and easy fix to things and it just sunk us deeper into the quicksand with each get rich quick scheme. They conned a lot of good people along the way to get behind their cause to sell out the club, was a very sad time really to be betrayed from within from people we held so highly. There is no greater shame or crime against this club. It will never be forgiven by me.

Caro is irrelevant, all her attempts to fold or move us have failed dismally, that is evidence in itself, we are here, we are thriving, we are 'NORTH MELBOURNE'.

Having said that, the Duff era was pretty scary for the club.

I found Rick to be a nice enough guy who did love North.
But as I understand it, Rick was put in there as part of the grand scheme to help the AFL move North to the GC with little opposition. His appointment was also reward for Allan Aylett for his support of the move.

Newspapers are expected to publish retractions when they get things horrifically wrong.

I think we're owed one. I'd frame it!

I hope he uses part of his President's salary to buy a paver.

Ignorance is no excuse. If you've got no idea what you're doing, ESPECIALLY in such a hectic time, get out of the way and let someone competent take over.

Rick was of course, the CEO, not the President. And what many people fail to appreciate is that as CEO he was empowered to run the club according to the wishes of the board of directors, who at that stage were majority in favour of a relocation. So whether it was Rick Aylett or some other person in the role, he/she would have been required to pursue the relocation strategy or get out of the way and let someone else do exactly that.

Technically speaking you are correct but he and all the shareholders knew that the float was to protect the NMFC from a hostile take over, not so they can play their powertrip games. They were entrusted by the members to look after and protect their club and they abused that power until Ansett reminded them of their obligation and his refusal to release his shares to the AFL despite what that blood money could have done for him personally. If not for him we would be up there in white suits and we would be dead.

Aylett could have made a stand and become a hero, instead he caved in and became a coward and JB had to step up and be the hero, a guy with zero business knowledge.

I think you mean that Aylett would have been a martyr, because up until Duff skulked away, the 9 man board was well and truly stacked in favour of relocation, so any heroic stand made by a CEO would have lasted until the board could be called to meet in order to sack him.

Nevertheless, the thing that I am most disappointed about with regard to Rick is that he became an instrument of disinformation, or at the very least, concealing the true intentions of the board. Coming back to your earlier point about the float and the responsibility of the directors to the membership, while legally, that is not true, morally you are of course correct. And the fact that these creeps had apparently decided to sell us out as early as 2006 without telling us is an absolute disgrace and a smear on this great club.

I wonder when Aylett Senior is going to break his silence.
He should make a public acknowledgement about the completion of the new facility.
He has been known to be quick to open his mouth about how we should have relocated and missed a "golden opportunity" because there was no future for the club in Melbourne.

Since his comments, the club, thanks to our brilliant CEO Eugene Arocca, has completed a brand spanking new state of the art facility, has enjoyed membership figures never before achieved in the history of the NMFC.

Aylett Snr. must be burning with jealousy- should put it all behind him, acknowledge that he was wrong and put his support behind the club moving forward.

Good point, kangalover. Comments from Aylett Snr have been surprisingly  non-existent lately. I wonder why.

And reading Duff's name makes me remember when he stood up at one of those member information sessions they held at TD and told everyone to take the 'r' word (relocation) out of their vocabulary.:mad::mad:

Yeah he did say we could take the 'r' word from our vocabulary, and all the while he was negotiating a 'c' word, or perhaps being a 'c' word.

As for Aylett, I don't really give a stuff whether he comments or not. He is a non-event as far as I'm concerned.
