The Richmond Football Club Board has filled its two casual vacancies.

The Board unanimously accepted the recommendations of the Nominations Committee that former Hay Group (Pacific) managing director Henriette Rothschild, and former managing director SEEK Education, Joe Powell, fill the vacancies.

The vacancies were created by the recent resignations of Tony Free and Rex Chadwick.

Rothschild most recently spent seven years as Managing Director Hay Group (Pacific), responsible for markets in Australia, NZ, Japan and Korea. The global management consulting firm provides advisory services to organisations, including restructures, leadership development, remuneration and culture. It advises CEOs, executives and senior leaders on all aspects of people-related organisational improvement and high performance.

Rothschild currently sits on the Board of Brown Brothers and on the Advisory Board of digital start up CircleSource.

Powell was formerly Managing Director of SEEK Education, overseeing SEEK Learning, CATHO Education in Brazil, JobStreet Learning in Malaysia, OCC Education in Mexico and Online Education Services (Swinburne Online). He previously spent six years as Managing Director of SEEK Employment where he was responsible for SEEK’s Online Employment business in Australia and New Zealand overseeing sales, marketing, product, customer service, operations and IT teams.

Powell currently sits on the Migration Australia Council Board.

Richmond President Peggy O’Neal said these were important appointments.

“We had many high-quality applicants who were thoroughly considered against the skill requirements of the Board. We thank everyone who took part in the process but ultimately Henriette and Joe were the candidates who best met our needs at this time. It was great to have so many applications and to see so many people willing to serve the Club,” O’Neal said.

“Both Henriette and Joe bring enormous experience and organisational expertise to the Club and we look forward to their contribution. They also bring an absolute commitment to deliver our members and fans a successful football team which, as always, is our number one priority.”

The Richmond Board has undergone a significant transformation in the past 18 months. The appointment of Rothschild and Powell follows the addition of John O’Rourke and Brendon Gale a little over 12 months ago and Emmett Dunne last September.

“This continues our commitment to succession planning and ensuring we have the right skill set around the board table to build our business and, most importantly, deliver on-field success,” O’Neal said.

"Unanimously accepted the recommendations of the nomination commitee" can be translated into english and reads "we put our mates on the board"
To be fair these are pretty good appointments

And they're not lawyers
 
Having worked for Joe many years ago, I can say he's a very passionate Tiger's man, and it's an excellent appointment by the board.

So basically 5 board members have been handed positions without having to be voted on by the members, meanwhile a bloke who put his hand up to be voted onto the board by members doesn't even get a look in it seems despite finishing a close 3rd in the last election. Don't know why they bother even having elections, when it seems to be a case of we'll just plonk our mates into roles and be done with it.

It's called a casual vacancy

They face the punters when the term of the person they replace is up

Lmfao. what clearly is going to happen is plenty of discontent continuing.
Surely enough people have complained about the processes yet they do nothing
Lots of yes men does not mean success it usually ends in tears which has been the case under this crowd.
 
It's like the old Australian cricket team . Once the NSW board elected you in it was near impossible to get them out.
The issue here is once you get the free ticket in you're a certainty to win at elections due to the poor numbers at the ballot.
Just look at all of the current incumbents , all have been nominated after a resignation and have all gone through to sit around Peggy's throne. At least we knew who Dunne was , but these two carefully selected candidates (whose opinion) we all pretty well know nothing about them. It's a farce

Personally I have very little faith in the democratic system anyway. Most people only vote based on who they've always voted for, who they like or dislike the look of, or for changes sake rather then the policies and credentials of candidates.
As RFC members we have been given the option to vote for change but have not done this. Just because the guy came a credible 3rd doesn't make him the next best candidate. Maybe the successful candidates were the best option at the time as seen by the majority of voters???

Anyway I'd rather candidates were selected by a committee by going thru a rigorous interview process - not by being voted in by members who only know the candidates by a short advertising spiel or external profile.
