Which is why we were happy to cough up another first round pick for him.
Because he played for Port, many people didn't realise just how good he is.
In real terms, we got him for peanuts, which is another reason Kane Cornes cracked the shits.
Bonus!
Next time we play Port the AFL should promote it as the Cane Kornes Salty Tears round.

Steele finished fifth in the Copeland last year.
Steele got poleaxed on here in 2021 when he was playing inside mid. But if you were watching he was doing a heap right - he'd win the ball, get into the clear - but we were such a mess ahead of the ball and had a Bucks plan so he'd then hold it up and try to baulk someone else to get in the clear again and get pinged holding the ball. It was 3 times a game and the fans would shred him each time.

Definitely not disputing this.
My take on the list in comparison to 2023 is:

Forward line a lot better with Membrey and Schultz added and McStay fit.
Midfield - similar standard, Probably slightly better - Nick's improvement, Cameron's improvement, Perryman addition, but Mitchell and Pendles probable decline and Adams gone
Defence - better offensively with Houston, but not as good defensively with Murphy gone - but Howe didn't have much of a year with his broken leg and not getting quite back to form. Wait and see on McInness

I’m still in the ‘euphoric’ stage which follows a win like that.

But what increasingly stands out is how desperate we were, and hard at it. Definitely more 2023 than 2024, and we maintained it throughout the game, in the heat and humidity, even after Port noticeably drooped and gave up. I love that we showed them no mercy. Wow.

It’s a physically and mentally taxing way to play, and difficult to do all through a long season. But if we can bring it when we need it - and we know that we can do it - then wow again.

My only concern remains the defence at the moment

I'm finding that teams still score some incredibly easy/cheap goals against us and for the life of me I don't get why

Even Port as bad as they were (or as bad as we made them look) still scored some really cheap/easy nothing goals which I felt were easily preventable.

It could just be a perception thing but it often feels like our opposititon don't have to work hard for whatever goals they kick.

It's just the style we play. We take a lot of risks and that often requires our players to peel off their man. If there's a turnover, we are usually left open out the back. It's going to happen against all teams. As long as we pressure further up the ground It's not a problem

I thought Lachie Schultz played a very team orientated game with a a number of hard ball gets and getting the ball out to players in much better positions. His pressure tackling was elite and whilst there were a few mistakes, I think this was his best team game with the Pies.
Agree, also think his best is ahead of him
