5 votes. Melksham - Looks like a new player with Hird back in charge - Great courage and tenacity
4 votes. Cooney - Set the Bombers up to win the game - inspirational
3 votes. Howlett - Guts and determination - Many 2nd and 3rd efforts - outplayed Sydney at their own game
2 votes. Heppell - Every time ball went near him, did something good - marked as though it was a dry ball
1 vote. Gleeson - Ball magnet and rarely wasted a disposal - Adds tremendous run just a kid

Reported on your game on Saturday at ANZ Stadium. Was very impressed with your team's effort. Considering all the ASADA nonsense, the Essendon Football Club answered the critics and naysayers with a big hearted effort. They simply ran out of gas, due to a lack of match practice for many of the players. James Hird was dignified and terrific during and after the game.Adam Cooney's debut was outstanding. Club legend Simon Madden was on hand as was Chairman Paul Little and other Bomber heavyweights to lend support. Your club brand was restored on Saturday and as James Hird said in the post-game presser "Watch This Space". With more game time under the belt the Essendon Football Club will win plenty of matches this season. A gutsy, gallant effort against last season's runners up. Well done Bombers. Hope you enjoy the photos Jodie Newell NewellMediaGroup Sydney, Australia.

5. Hurley - Set for AA
4. Cooney - great pick up
3. Melksham - still not convinced about this guy but I'll have to eat my words if he keeps playing like that
2. Howlett - typical gutsy tackling game
1. Heppell - tried all night
