The stories from Hawthorns indigenous players on the inside of the collar correspond to the artwork I believe. For example the circle with the red 'U's depicts a group sitting around a fire, referring to Miller-Lewis' story.
Ahh. Beauty. Hadn't seen that part to be honest

It's not very PC but I really think a vast majority of these indigenous jumpers are really tacky and ugly. Just have the round and a ceremony before the game and you're laughing. Whack an aboriginal flag on the jumper somewhere or something.

Ah geez. I know these aren't necessarily meant to be tasteful, but it really does look ugly. I think more the fact that it's predominantly white, when at least previous Hawks indigenous jumpers were brown so looked alright. I really don't know why the Hawks have to wear white when playing away to Brisbane.

For Hawthorns on field success, they sure have some shit jumpers.
Welcome to being told by the AFL that it must be predominantly white. White doesn't really work with brown and/or gold so we can only work with what we got. That said I'm happy with the jumper, it has meaning and personal stories attached to it which I really like as an idea. The final result isn't great but I wasn't expecting much ever since I found out we needed to have a predominantly white guernsey.

I'm not a big contributor here but i'm a regular lurker, saw this released today.

“The small circles represent the eight players on our AFL list, the larger circle represents the club, which is the coaches, other players, staff and volunteers,” Amon explains.

“I didn’t leave off the supporters either, they’re represented by the smaller dots around the outside.

That article is the first time I've seen Indigenous Round referred to as Sir Douglas Nicholls Round.

I think the sentence about "the eight players on our list" could have been worded a bit better too... but overall a nice story

Complain all you want, at least hawthorn aren't chucking a bunch of dots, stripes and boomerangs on their main jumper and saying "look, we're respectful and progressive"

Maybe some teams are feeling obligated to take part in the special round of jumpers hence their designs lack

It shouldn't be about designing jumpers and commercialism to help progress Indigenous relations in this country

Indigenous art is all about using symbolism to tell a story, and in that sense Hawthorn have done a really good job. It just sucks as a footy jumper.

If Richmond were with any other manufacturer, that'd be a really vibrant, good looking jumper. I'm trying to work in a joke about a certain brand of cheese without being distasteful, but point is they're going to look like cheese.

I reckon we're within two years of indigenous guernseys going the way of heritage guernseys.

That will just mean that some other more ridiculous idea for a sporting team's uniform will be created by marketing types instead.

I doubt it because no club will want to be the first to stop wearing an indigenous guernsey.

Also the last 2 years of heritage round (not including Tom Wills round in 08) were based around certain decades which heavily limited what designs could be used. A lot of the designs weren't much different to what the clubs were already wearing so there was no incentive for supporters to buy them. The Indigenous theme is a lot more open.

This is a very good point. The game is becoming very political now... it's a slippery slope.

How many of the indigenous guernseys look so good though, that someone is going to buy it and wear it to the game each week ahead of their normal jumper? I could probably count on one hand. The only people I think who would genuinely willingly purchase these indigenous guernseys are: 1) collectors and people who worship their club and buy everything from guernseys to teatowels, 2) family members of the designer/players, 3) young Indigenous footy supporters who feel a connection to these jumpers.

How many white guys do you see wearing indigenous jumpers when you go down to the G on a Saturday?
