I'd trade Ross at the end of the year but that's just me I guess. Don't dislike the player; on the contrary I recognise his ability to get the ball. However, I must agree with many who say his disposals don't consistently hurt the opposition. I also doubt his leadership qualities. He would shine in a great Sydney-like team, but we might have to face the possibility of a re-jigging our rebuild a little, and the next available draft is renowned for being rich in quality in the first round. One pick is nice, but two would be ideal. If we need to get more into this draft then Seb's one of the few players on our list who have got the value/appeal to get us something decent in a trade.

Essendon might be very interested in getting cousin of Jobe and 2017 B&F winner into their club, same with a few other clubs - if the price is right, he's the midfielder we could probably most easily replace, obviously discounting the GOPs and spuds.

I would also trade Newnes and Bruce right now, but I am happy to look stupid if all three have made themselves indispensable by the end of the season.

In any case, I haven't seen anything that indicates that Seb Ross would be a decent captain for us, except for the fact that he sees a lot of the ball.
If we want to improve, why would be trade out one of our best players? Every club would love to have Seb running around in their midfield, why would we weaken ours by getting rid of him?

I've pulled the trigger and swung Billings back to play Savs role. Also, I recon it's going to be pretty hard to get a forward 50 mark this week so I have gone the pressure forward line. Would be stoked to see Paton and Battle though.....

Out: Gears, Savage
IN: Coff, Dunstan

B: Rice Austin Webster
HB: White Marshal Billings
C: Sincs Steele Coff
HF: Newnes Membrey Weller
FF: Lonie McCartin Gresh

Foll: Hickey Steven Clark
Ross Philips McKenzie Dunstan
bootiful team! yes please

I don't think we'd get much for him. His stats are good cos he gets to play a roaming midfield role that not many players are afforded, but at most other teams others would play that role and he'd have to be more defensive. Maybe not but I just can't see us getting too much for him. And I agree, he's a good link man with an average disposal. He's played some good games and gets a lot of it, but as a link man you'd wanna use it a bit better. He's a (much) classier clint jones..

I have seen him use it very well in the past though

That team is great. Love it mate. Only change I'd make is Ross on the ground since he'll most likely captain and Steele on the bench. I agree it's time for Sav to have a week off and Billings swung back.

Really so you want Jack Billings to play against Isaac Heeney ....

Savage ain’t been great but Jack should have been playing at Sandringham for a month.

We will get killed if they don’t play Battle ...Rampe / Grundy / Smith will block us out every time we play
2 tall forwards seen it happen year in year out, because we bomb away .

They have to play Coffield instead of Geary for mine .
If we want win it they need to play Ross on the wing , Clark / Savage / Steven / Dunstan & Steele rotating
thru midfield with Gresham & Paton
Goodbye Weller ..
Goodbye Lonie....
Goodbye Billings for a little while.
Don’t think we will do it ..and therefore will lose for the upteenth time against Swines because we are so
bloody predictable.

Yeah, I actually think Stuv will get the nod for captain, which I'm happy with. The only reason Steele is named on field instead of Ross is that we all know where Ross will play, but for some reason this year we can never be sure which position Steele will end up in.

Whoever gets the captaincy will be quite telling IMO

I explained why in the same post. If you don't agree, that's fine. I know it's a sensitive point, I'm not going to try and argue it. That's my opinion FWIW.

Billings is the future (hopefully), and we ain't going to drop him so we may as well give him a kick up the ass and make him accountable. Why would Billing need to match up on Heeney? We can pick the match ups that suit us in the back half?

I'd be stoked to drop Weller for Battle as I personally like the 3 tall forward line, but Richo seems to like the two tails so that is what I picked. Lonie stays for mine as he plays a role, but he is Gonski as soon as Long is fit.

OUT: Geary, Lonie.

IN: Coffield, Connellan/Paton/Langlands.

The Swans defence is excellent, and beautifully drilled, but they’re not quick. Let the Irishman or the youngsters come in and throw an insanely rapid cat amongst the pigeons.

Make ‘em RUN!

The reason is Longmire would simply make Heeney go to Billings if he was playing Half back.

Then when Sydney were coming of half back Franklin would lead up the ground and Heeney would drag
Billings to the goal square .They will do the same tactic if Savage playing off Half back too .
Or anybody that is weak defensively that is why we get killed by Sydney year in year out.

Lonie offers nothing if not played on the ball for minutes , we have the smallest number of rotations for
midfield group in the AFL this is consistent with Richo’s tenure , we fatigue opposition get on top we fall
away.
That is why when teams get on top of Stkilda for last 5 years they kick a lot of goals in a row.

Sydney love teams that play fast footy overuse by handball , they score on turnover and Stkilda are their
bunnies because we never change including bombing the ball to their extra behind the ball.

I personally have no problem if Heeney lines up on Billings. I absolutely rate Heeney's marking for his size, but the role Billings has played the last month he has not been near the half forward line when it comes in at a reasonable pace. On the weekend Lonie and Gresham were the smalls deep, and Billings up the ground roaming somewhat, using the wings and deep flanks. He didn't get a lot of stats, but ran hard, and was a key contributor to 4 goals. 3 being in our first 6, so a useful contribution.

I am not going to defend his overall form, as it is below what he should be producing, but it is ok, he is playing his role, and bringing class to some forward entries (notice I did not say class to finishing).

So, if he keeps Heeney busy, and preferably out of the half forward/forward marking contests, and build on his recent weeks, I see no reason to not continue to back him in his current role.
