Any idea what Fly was alluding to re off-field stuff that Lachie Schultz has been dealing with?

Not sure, but Schultz alluded a couple of weeks ago to some very negative social media coming his way, and that it surprised (read: hurt) him.

In other words, trolling from our loyal band of supporters who - having won a recent flag - expect us to be perfect every game. Pathetic idiots.

I don’t know that it’s intangibles. A willingness to chase, harrass and tackle should be the easiest things to add to your bow.

I really hoped today would present a turning point - in a sense we had nothing to lose from giving him an opportunity. I hoped for both his sake and ours he could produce what he did last year against the Dogs and Dockers but he is playing like someone bereft of confidence and unwilling to show the intensity required.

I thought Johnson’s workrate was good, just didn’t translate into marks or possession.

We had 23 scoring shots from 41 entries. Our makeshift forward line didn’t lose the game. The makeshift midfield did.

Kappa saying Krueger should have played it’s quite ironic

The disappointment of last night has worn off. On paper, this was the weakest Collingwood forward line set-up I've seen for a long time.

The first quarter showed how well this team is coached, and how much the players have "bought in". Despite the threadbare cupboard, we were right in it until the troops were overrun in the last.

It was obvious all week that the game would be won in the midfield. Sullivan did an awesome job of blocking to create a clear path for Nick. In the last quarter, the dog's blocked Sullivan and it opened the path for the Bont. Add to that the lack of legs and inexperience, we were always going to struggle in the last quarter

I've found some absolute morons who still don't realise the rules have changed this year, but still think it's some sort of justification to do what Darcy did.

Probably the first time I've fought back as I'm sick of this shit.
Reality is there's 17 clubs who would pick up Maynard if he entered FA tomorrow, and 17 fanbases that would magically forget everything they've ever said about him in the last 5+ years.

BT and Hodge gleefully pointed out examples of when he should have gone harder. BT in particular went on and on about work rate.

BT wouldn’t have a clue how hard AJ works.

Sulli was strong in the first 1/2. Growing into his shoes.

Surprised we went with Frampton up forward and Howe down back.
Presume it was to allow Frampton to back up ruck more easily, bit it robbed us of potency.

Leggy up forward was playing a tagging role was he? Another odd decision, nothwithstanding he scored a goal.

In hindsight, Krueger would have been more competitive than Ash. But we simply didn't have the cattle and got overrun in the last, despite the Daicos bros best efforts.

Boys are trying very hard, despite being undermannned. Augurs well when we get some personnel back.

Yep no tall structure ahead of the ball would have gotten us over the line when we got smashed both inside and outside the contest in that second half. Moore and Howe were outstanding and we converted our chains in the third to keep our noses in front for so long.

We also had 13 marks inside 50 to 8 😂. We were killed between the arcs.

Howe forward like most are saying we should have done would have weakened our defence. He was fantastic.

The other option was Krueger. Do you think he was going to play a Nick Riewoldt role for us?

We needed to take more opportunities in the first half and less howlers from Noble to set up a big lead.

That wasn't lost through talls. We got smashed at stoppage and had a lot of vfl level flankers who contributed little offensively.
Personally, I would have gone with Krueger over AJ. Obviously the risk is him getting injured early in the game.

But the thing you do get from Krueger is a contest. With no other big guys forward, we needed to get the ball to ground.

Could have even played both of them. One of Bytel or Parker could have made way. At least we would have had AJ as more of a taller leading option with Krueger providing a contest.

Frampton could have played back on Darcy.

His workrate didn’t translate into a willingness to impact the contest, and therein lies the issue… he is unsuited to our gamestyle.

That’s true……but the last genuine A-grade key forward on our list was Travis Cloke, who finished at Collingwood in 2016. Unless Steene can reach that level, we need to make a big free agency play this year or next to get another one.

On another post last week someone suggested we should look at Max King. A lot of us (myself included) scoffed at this for various reasons. I had a discussion with a business colleague this week (who is a coterie member of the Woodsmen). I was lamenting our lack of KPPs and he indicated that we are into King in a big way this year. He indicated Kings issues are compounded by their glacial ball movement and as a result when the ball comes to him he has 3 players on him. I asked how we could acquire him? He couldn't tell me as he did not know but claimed where there's a will there's a way. NO thanks

Given Frampton’s record as a forward, we would have been better off playing Frampton in ruck and Cameron forward… and that’s saying something.

Fly was seduced by our team’s performance last year with Frampton playing ruck (with Murphy alongside Moore and Howe), and presumably by getting over the line in the GF with Frampton tasked with occupying Andrews and offering nothing offensively.

We’ve been playing to slowly lose fourth quarters for quite some time now.

Not the match, but certainly the fourth quarter.

Needs to change. Manage the moments in the last 5-10 minutes, not the entire quarter, it’s too much momentum to give up. For the most part you play the way that won you the lead in the first place.
Said that last week and have been of the view for a while, that Hawthorn game was extremely disappointing to see that we had not rectified it.

It crept in towards the end of last year I thought and we hung on and saluted at the end, so you will get that comeback always.

But it's starting to work against us and it inevitably puts more stress physically and mentally on the players deep into games, which will also catch up with them eventually

Or we could avoid having to cough up huge capital and draft a guy like Logan Morris (or similar) and develop them to eventually be one our “bring the ball to ground” guy

It's tough, comrade.

WB people are supporters of a club with a tragic history.

They will cling to and find consolation in any victory against the Pies. It matters not how depleted we are, it's a source of pathetic pride for them.

Darcy, the gangly little pr*ck will receive his well-deserved vacation from the MRO.

Onwards and upwards for the Pies. Imagine we had a forward line last night. :)
wb supporter’s are ungrateful pissants, I want the $5 i donated to their shithole club back.

I don’t care if we lose to them, someone’s got to lose. But their dislike of us is no bueno, you’d think they’d have some affection for us given we’ve bailed them out as a club twice in their sad history.

I would too. I love the concept of Freddy, but rather than a contest what you actually get with Freddy is a lot of unrealistic attempts and him having gone to ground as the ball gets swept away.

King would be a coup.

PM’ing a player abuse is just real loser behaviour, you have to have not much going on in your life to stoop that low

We were smashed through stoppages all through 2022 and still managed to find wins. Our half backs just aren’t taking enough risks ball in hand anymore.

Also we should have definitely played an extra tall instead of one of those ineffectual forward flankers you mentioned.
