Agreed.

This shouldn't have read as accusatory. Buddy has stopped remonstrating (which is a technique that works beautifully for Geelong and Adam Kick-a-man Soy Sauce Goodes) and is getting on with playing footy. His second efforts and defensive pressure were good.

It didn't. Fully agree with everything you say.

Strange set of tactics - but all in all we're holding our positions, and it's costing us a bit with clearances (don't have the release player at the back of the stoppage). Maybe we've been taking a closer look at how players perform in one-on-one roles across the past month?

Interesting.

Plan B? Another string to the bow? Preparation for finals? Last year, Hawthorn's weakness when faced with man-on-man marking around the ground (including borderline illegal scragging tactics) was exposed in all three finals, when the umpiring is traditionally more open and less technical.

We have always needed a better Plan B. Is this it taking shape during a period of relatively weak opposition, including byes? And it just happens to correspond to an apparent umpiring directive to let the games go, with fewer tiggy-touch technical frees (unless it's everyone's favourite leaping ruckman with shaggy hair)?

Or am I just seeing what I want to see.

I noticed a number of Times naitanui taking his opponent high
This Was never penalised

I noticed Franklin get taken out numerous times, and he only got a couple

West Coast should have won? Not sure what game you were watching, the eagles barely hit a target all game

If he goes to GWS that wiil change. He will get every free kick they can think of.

Not commenting on your post, but how can you follow Arsenal AND Swansea?

If you support Arsenal, you hate every other team.

Explain to me the Soy Sauce reference to Adam Goodes?

Watching the same game. They didn't win because they didn't take their chances whereas Hawthorn did. They created enough opportunities to win, even with way more non-contributors than Hawthorn. Haven't the Hawks ever lost a game their fans thought they should have won?

My impression on the night, and I think the TV commentators made mention of it too, is that Nat gets away with some extraordinarily physical acts that could be frees.

That comes down to umpire interpretation whereas what I saw happening in the third man up scenario was a rule being ignored. I presume this was because the officiating ump missed what was happening as he backpedalled and the other 2 umps were watching what was happening near them, not at the ball up. Last year teams were crossing the centre line prematurely against Naitanui for a number of games before (I presume) the Eagles pointed out that this was happening and was illegal.

I listened to the pre-match on ABC radio for the Freo v North game which came out of Perth including talkback. I learnt the following:

1. Regular talkback caller didn't know Clarko's name.
2. Embley did nothing wrong as Stratton had hold of his leg. Stratts will get weeks.
3. Buddy will be cited by MRP for several illegal acts.
4. Luke Hodge is a protected species.

I am enlightened ;)

There's an IQ test callers must take before going on air - if they pass they don't get let on

I am sure Embley will get rubbed out, hopefully for the three separate acts. But Stratton might just be OK, injury-wise.

I am more concerned about snipers like Goodes who are permitted to get away with dangerous and injury-causing acts. For example, the slide on Sewell and the kicking of Gibson's ankle.

Gibbo missing weeks, Goodes let off by tribunal for deliberate snipe. Goodes getting his knee-karma, hopefully.

Like Goodes, it seems Naitanui is officially a member of the protected species club, of which Buddy has no chance of ever being a member. He has an incredible leap, especially onto another player's shoulders in a ruck contest, or into his back, or into his path illegally so Cox can do his tap work. That is, unless Cox is too busy staging for frees and getting them every time.

It is hilarious that hard, at-the-ball players like Hodge will never win a Brownlow. (And opposition supporters complain that he is too physical, putting players in the Waaaaaah-mbulance.) Or that a player like Roughy can dominate contests 6 weeks straight, dragging a team to win contests in which they are being outplayed at times, and yet his chance of winning a Brownlow is zero.

Amazing too, that Buddy has resigned himself to being monstered at will by average defenders, without repercussions. When Buddy was paid for holding Hackenzie's jumper for a microsecond, you can see his bewilderment at the imbalance.
Quoted for being a quality post.

I was just kidding, but great that you know your football!

Swansea do play an attractive game, good to watch.

Something else I noticed. The last two weeks the oppo has been focused on not letting us exit out the back fifty with unmarked players. Hardly any switching etc as a result and making it harder for us to exit cleanly. There were a lot of long kicks along the boundary coming out the back line.
And it has been really great to watch Bailey take a few contested marks, and get involved more in general play. It seems like he is increasingly playing with more confidence.
