Round 13 (Split Round) The Sydney Swans vs. The Collingwood Magpies

IN: Bradshaw, Shaw (for sure, sure )
OUT: Bevan, Mattner(?)

Harsh on Mattner, he was more than solid enough tonight, but I think White gives us good forward structure, and Vespa, while a touch off the pace, was classy and will be much, much better for the run, and nobody else is really looking vulnerable.

I highly doubt Craig will be ready for the Pies game, based on the injury list anyway. Mattner won't be dropped any time soon. Though i am one who is getting a little tired of his mistakes, he was ok last night and Roosy likes him. I do believe that he is one of the players (such as Bevo, Teddy) who we need to slowly filter out of the side as we get closer to the years we are ready to challenge for a flag.

Bevan i think will get another shot is Roosy can fit him in with Rhyce and Bradshaw as he did a pretty good job on Motlop. Though Motlop seemed to beat himself most of the night.

Vez was good and will keep Jetta out.

Vez was ok, he needs a bit of time to adjust to the pace, he ran hard to make position and got on the end of a few kicks but seemed to freeze a bit and took too long to move it on giving Port plenty of time to get back. He turned the ball over a bit and wasnt as creative as Ive seen him be before, he will be better for the run and Id like to see him get a few games in a row and show improvement. Some suggesting he showed any more than Jetta has is arguable but its great we have these options as both are gonna be great players.

He looked like a player who was used to the pace of the Canberra league. Hopefully they give him a couple more games to get up to speed, and I have a good feeling about him against Collingwood.

I know people will shout me down for this but I think Rohan should go back to the 2nds for a few games. Play him in the mids and tell him to get 20+ touches. He's showing flashes but I think he needs to get more involved than he currently is.

As always there's those who call for Mattners head even when he plays ok.
Bevans been solid, however Shaw should come in for him.

Bradshaw should come in for Hanners? I love the kid, but I don't want his shoulders screwing around all year...

True....I suppose there are just some of us that don't see him in our best 22 players. Having said that, he was okay last night - I just wish he would stop kicking to contests that aren't in our favour.....his turnovers generally aren't butchering the ball, it's more that he just kicks it rather indiscriminately to places that are to the other team's advantage.....just my opinion anyway.

Bevo should definitely come out for Shaw. The other omission (Bradshaw coming in) is a tougher call as Pyke and Vez both played fairly well. If it was just on form, I'd leave out McGlynn, but that would never happen. And then what to do with Rohan and Jetta? Jetta's speed would be handy against the Pies, but I don't know who he would push out. Rohan had less impact last night than in previous games, but I still love the way he goes about it and think he brings something a bit unique to the team. Not sure how we are going to get all these guys in the team once we have everyone back.

How odd

Over the last two seasons I built up the reputation of the anti Bevan and just when I think I can give him a pass mark for his game last night every ones dropping him.

He stood Motlop for a fair percentage of the game last night and in the third term Port were all over us in the middle yet our defence soaked up the heat including Bevo.

Yet when I look at the in's I have to agree he will probably make way for R.Shaw and Vesz for Bradshaw. Not that I think those two played badly by any means just two are going to have to make way and the runs are on the board for the others in pressure games.

Based purely on stats because I didn't see the match:

OUT: Bevan, Rohan, Mattner
IN: Bradshaw, Shaw, C. Bolton/Jetta if Bolton's not ready
WTF Stat?

1. Please watch the game before proferring your opinion, but;
2. For argument's sake, if you were to base it on stats alone how could you say that Mattner had a worse game than White?

Rohan is not the type of player who needs to have 20+ touches to have an impact. A lot of his great work won't show up on the stats sheet: the way he attacks the football, the contests he provides both in the air and on the ground. Granted he had a pretty quiet one last night, but over the course of his 6 games, he's had more games where he has had an impact than games where has not.

I'd keep him in and somehow find a place for Jetta (Don't ask me how). The two have the blistering pace I think we need to bust the Pies open

Harsh on Pyke. He played the best game of his career imo.
Not only is it harsh (Pyke did have his best game by a mile, took a few great grabs and even kicked the ball!) but it wouldn't make sense to drop him without putting in another ruckman. Mummy's going to be kept very busy around the stoppages by Jolly and/or Wood/Fraser, so he can't ruck on his own.

Bradshaw is an obvious in, and perhaps too Shaw. I would really like to see Moore back in as well, as his toughness around the stoppages and crumbing ability in the forward line will be needed.

Three unlucky outs? Bevo's one I suppose, maybe Vez (would hate to see him dropped though) and the third???? Dunno...

Unlike Stat machine I was at the game and saw how hard Rohan ran and pressured. :p You can't base your in and outs on stats alone mate.

I also really liked the look of Pyke too. And think Bev has been hardly done by some of the InsOuts I've been reading. Then saying that I can see how he could be pushed out, particularly when Bolts is back. But still think he deserves a few weeks as he did a great job on Motlop. It was good to see Kennedy kick that goal too, we all enjoyed it :thumbsu:. Wasn't sure about Marty, didn't see him too much 2bh. Would have loved to see Jetta out there and I think he'd be a good inclusion against the Pies but who loses their spot?? just a heap of fringe players laying their claims on spots :).

Rohan has to stay in the team as Collingwood have a very strong halfback line and Rohan provides very good frontal pressure.

I'd leave White in the team but he really needs to work on his one on one contests as he had around 3 of them last night and he lost all of them. He has a lot of potential but he does need to work on a few things in his game.

In
Bradshaw
Shaw

Out
Veszpremi (i know most will disagree and even i am not to happy about it)
Bevan (even though i was happy with his game last night)

Pyke will keep his spot easily as Collingwood have a good ruck division and the Swans need to go into the game with 2 ruckmen. Pyke showed last night that he is getting better around the ground (he has always been a good tap ruckman) so that can only be a good thing.

After watching Jack Reiwoldt kick a lazy 10 goals does anyone else really want to see Lewis Johnston playing sooner rather than later. I'm not saying Johnston could do anything like that anytime soon but i would love to get some game time into him so in a few years he can become a very good key forward.

Not much room in the forward 50 for him with Jesse, Goodesy and Bradshaw coming back.

I'm really excited by what i'm hearing about him in the 2's but he's only 19. His time will come and he will become a very good forward. I think we've made another good drafting choice there with LJ.
