Watched a lot of Young last year and was pleased when we picked him up, thought he'd spend a year in the VFL developing but the injury to Gibcus has given him an opportunity, which I think he has taken, reckon the coaches/match committee agree given they brought him back almost immediately after he recovered from injury.
Not looking to bag the guy. He has come from no where and has been asked to fill a role. And some of the time he’s done a good job of it. He’s looking ready for a spell though imo.
You mentioned a few stats that are positive for him in a previous post. Watch the last two weeks and you will see a player that has panicked under pressure with the ball, has had some very poor turnovers, doesn’t cover off as third man up when he should, has been caught in poor position several times. Maybe I’m being harsh but last weeks game was a shocker for him. Any other description can only be a biased view. Given his quick rise it’s not a huge surprise that his form has/will drop off. I hope you’re right and he Continues to develop long term.

Right now he’s getting a game because Tarrant and Gibcus have fallen over. We haven’t had many other options given our injuries. We threw Bauer back, in the twos for the same reason.

Young has had 34 defensive half 1-1 contests & has lost 4 for the season, he also has 18 more spoils than any other defender in our side despite only playing 9 games. He isn't in the side to get possessions, he's in the side because of his importance to our structure and him playing his role then allows others to play their roles better. As for not being ready, 12 months ago he was plugging away in his first season in the VFL, to now playing his 10th game at the highest level, the kid has had an unbelievable rise through the ranks. Having a rough game here and there is to be expected. As I said in a couple of years we could have a very good defensive base to build around with Balta Gibcus and Young, who could be the next generations version of Rance Astbury & Grimes (not suggesting they'll be the same level)
stats can be very very very over-rated in fact at one stage Young had a bit of a chance to take a chest mark near the boundary but instead he double fisted it over, well that gives him some sort of credit as a spoil which is crap another time he over runs the ball into the path of an opponent (NOT HIS DIRECT THO) easy goal, so it looks bad on our defence but not him, then another he falls over and panics sees Grimes 25m away so does a feeble 5m paddle in his direction while 2 oppo are out of his vision but only 5m away who raffle it another easy goal. seen enough he's easily our weakest link at the moment and needs to go back a level to work on his craft.

4th week in succession that team selection has been met with melts and yet the team are 2-1 in that time with the only loss being 10 points to Port who'd won 7 straight heading in to the game in which McQualter had pretty much 4 days to get his head around becoming the interim head coach. Maybe just maybe the people selecting the team have an clue what they're trying to achieve with the teams they are selecting.
I am sick to death of sensible and well thought out posts in here. Take that crap to the main boards.

I think we need to invest games into Young and get as many games possible into him for our long term defensive prospects
Balta / Young / Gibcus are our next KPD.

Extremely likely we dont make finals this year so getting games into these boys when possible is a start for your next 6-8 years in defence

Finally someone gets it :thumbsu:

Imagine if we'd have won what we should have won, and from winning positions.

Would love it if that happened. Once the team is locked in I’m behind the side 100% like all of us ( I hope!).
I can only judge selection on exposed form though I reckon there’s a few doing more in the twos than MRJ and Soldo right now and they’d be sitting at home wondering how those two are in the squad ahead of them.
Mrj especially tho brings red zone heat which is unique qty ,,,,,it’s pickets spot that say young is still there that is ? ,,,,hope he comes out for Hugo or banks

Ok so who replaces Young as our 2nd key defensive back if you drop him without hurting our structure which has worked well the last 3 games?

Miller has barely played back over the last 2 seasons, Bauer is less experienced that Young, Nyoun has also played very little KPD over 2 years as well.

The door opens wider, you know what that means?
Another reaming from the cheats in fluro.
why have they raced in deeboy and ray two campaigners that always ream us again

They did beat Collingwood in a grandfinal, however, they stuffed up the 2010 GF by squibbing out when the ball was to be won!
Reiwoldt grandstanding in the goal square after he marked the footy and elected to play on...run down...kick that goal would have won the GF!!!
Coulda...shoulda...woulda...ain'ts gonna happen! lol...;):)

WOW B.G. really communicates well...articulate...measured...no nonsense approach...honest...has a sense of humour as well...
Very impressive/professional...spoke about Marlion coming back to work...not to play footy as such...but made the distinction that Marlion has a job...
WOW RFC...is where it's all happening...whether it's searching for a new coach...Chimp's 300th...BHouli's injury...Marlion's support in time of need...making the Finals...rebuilding Punt Road Precinct...

pies 2010 is one of the worst premiership sides of all time

the list was littered with battlers, vfl players and delisted oppo duds

I don't enjoy playing the Saints at any time. They seem to have the wood on us of late but there are a a few factors that give me more confidence than normal.

1. Cotchin's 300 is huge for the playing group. All the leaders will be up and about for the game and drag the others along with them. We should see this early on in the game and if we are on, our pressure game should be on too.

2. Playing at the 'G does make a difference to the way we play but, more importantly, how they play. They enjoy the smaller confines of Marvel where their talls can play deeper and the ball can be moved into their forwardline more easily from the center bounce. They have strong smalls too that feed off their talls which we don't atm. In contrast, we like to work off opposition turn overs, rebound by hand, run in waves and find our forwards in space. The MCG suits our game plan much better.

3. Taranto & Butler inclusion and omission is significant to the outcome of the game. St.Kilda have always beaten us on the inside which has enabled them to quickly move the ball into their tall forwards. This year though, we have Taranto tearing it up inside, Prestia as our second best and a fired up Cotchin ready to play out of his skin on his 300th.
Butler is dangerous up forward for them so his out means we we can focus on shutting down Gresham (who seems to enjoy playing us) and Higgins (whose betrayal still stings).

I also think we have a better ruck combination and I'm hoping Millers inclusion could mean Ryan spends more time in the ruck. Fingers crossed.

I'm expecting a close win.
