Autopsy Round 15, 2022: Sydney v St.Kilda

Not sure why we get all these Hawthorn people then come up with a gameplan that revolves around bombing the ball as high as we can on players heads. That was the exact opposite of what those teams did well.

Did not see this drop in form coming. The signs were there after Steele went down but we had the credits in the bank to start the year. I’ll give it a couple more games but it’s looking like this might be 2019 all over again and if it is then it’s time for a new everything.

We haven't been putting in 4 quarter performances all year. We've had some wins but our form has been sketchy. I hoped we were building but it doesn't seem that way. We've been exposed.

clark is fools gold.

he will never be the inside mid people think he can be. he lacks the defencive side of his game to actually be an accountable defender and the two way running means he wont be a winger.

clark may change it, but i wouldnt hold my breath.

he's very very very lucky to be playing senior footy right now.
It was his second game of the season and he was one of our better players, I see you're on a tirade but at least pick your targets this is just over the top.

It's hard to fathom what has happened to the team. We've gone from being a gutsy exciting young side to insipid and unwatchable.

The heart of the problem is the midfield which is very average. There's the basis of something there but to be a good mid you need to be consistent and unfortunately ours are not bar Steele. Jones has been shocking this season, Gresh up and down, Crouch fantastic for a while but gone back to just good. We lack another bull in there, here's hoping Owens can come through.

But if you look at our forward line it is also pretty bad. We are reliant on a 21 year old. Membrey is a good player but the others are all average. Long, Butler, Sharman either kids or very average players.

That was an unwatchable game from St Kilda. This season is beginning to remind me of 1999 when we started well but went to the dogs later on. The way we're playing right now we are in the bottom four teams in the comp.
That hard core training load that was alluded to over the bye must of really done a number on the team. I never knew you could train to derail a season so efficiently...if only they trained skills, system, cohesion, and actual efficiency...we may have been a chance in the last 3 games.

I literally cried in the 4th quarter because we’re so disappointing, and I’m so sad we are so s**t, and we’re in no man’s land with our coaching and the young ones who showed promise look lost as anything. Hard to stomach how we got back to this low point, and still so much more pain ahead in this season

I concur..

Ratten says our brand of footy is contested footy, yet we’re not good at winning contested ball, our midfield/backline do not win enough (first possesion), so he sets up the entire team to tackle, apply pressure to win the ball back for easy turnover goals.. if the opposition don’t crack under our pressure, we are toast..

how about try to win the ball first, use it well.. then worry about the tackling when opposition gets it..

He’s an old animal enclosure regular at moorabbin so he’s coming from the right place as a president. That is a hardened stkilda tragic with plenty of money to boot . Westaway etc are no comparison.
I think he means well and not just a hobby but he looks a bit wet behind the ears still. A few charlatans are making him look a bit naive.

Seems to be a straight shooter in those emails he's sent out over the last couple of years. You don't build a billion dollar business without breaking some eggs, and up until this point what is supposed to have done? Sacking Ratten after 18 months didn't seem like an appropriate response.

I hope he’s ready to kick arse. They’re making him look like a dick. He’s said last year wasn’t even a challenge year contradicting himself then said this year is the real start of the campaign and now it’s going to have to be excuses again. He’s running out of corners to hide in. I hope he doesn’t lube himself up and bend over again. Someone has to be in charge and the limp dicks in the footy department aren’t good judges.

We don’t have a style or brand. We play like we are lost. No brand or system. We are the brown strainers to the North Shinboners.

He’s lucky he played okay but he’s starting to be a worry. Low production, low pressure and he’s veeeery slow. He’s not got an obvious best position. Slow small defenders aren’t in demand and slow mids have to win a lot of their own ball. He might be trade bait. Their draft is starting to smell as well.

Probably the most disappointing players in the top 35 of the draft are Saints. Nearly everyone else has picked up except our guys. Injury hasn’t helped but there might be another couple in our shit drafting list soon. At least Bonar our other love is the next most disappointing.

I still have some faith in Hunter. He's had a sh*t run at it with injury the last few years. I'm hoping if he gets some continuity he'll be ok.

Did you see his one handed pick up late in the 2nd quarter? Was everything we love about Clark.

Looked to have some of his best traits back.

Long time lurker and rare poster here. From the Deep South of wa, travelled to Sydney for this game, first live Saints game for me for 5 years. First ever game at SCG. You guys watch much more live footy than I can but this is hard to swallow. Didn’t expect a win but jeez that was awful. Wondering why I bothered.

Honestly the kid got his face destroyed last year and then did the shoulder at the start of 2022, it's literally his second game back and he already showed glimpses of getting back to his best. Which was in 2020 when he was top 10 in the b and f and was brilliant in a finals win. Ditto Coff, top 10 in 2020 b and f and brilliant in a finals win, currently down with an ACL so how is he meant to prove himself? Yes he had a poor 2021 but the catastophising of those two is so over the top, they will both be fantastic players for us when they get a clear run at it (which they've already proven).

All the best blokes are from the SW 😎

Yeah my 1st game at the SCG
So hard to watch with so little effort given

I haven’t given up either but the idea that a poster is out of line to question it is equally as dumb, he’s got some great traits but he’s going to take a clever coach to extract maximum value from. He’s a quirky type that a smart coach with vision could work out a great role for. Acres was similar. Poor vision could waste a good career.

No worries cushion hands
Extremely soft, fickle and smooth. Research suggests these types most likely work behind a desk in an office and have done little to no physical activity in their lifetime with a high chance of chinlessness - a common theme amongst soft hand types.

Given their very mundane existence, you may also find them pick up a new hobby like smoking to "relieve the stress" of existential dread whilst also trying to look cool amongst their co-workers.

Normally you can catch these types scurrying out of their 1 bedroom shack to open the front door for fast food deliveries or out to the bins at 3am to throw away their jenga tower of pizza boxes.

With the research we have conducted on these strange folk, I suspect DBG resembles something similar to the below;

Well they might be but they might not. Injury buys time for sure but it’s not off limits to question any players as far as I’m concerned. Hanners is our best trade for years if you don’t count injury.

Simultaneously looking like a sex offender and an androgynous lesbian is some feat.

If they're recurring soft tissue injuries I get the concern but when it's getting your face destroyed and shoulder ACL I think some slack is warranted.

And he’s getting it but he won’t forever.

It’s funny how we’ve gone away from what works, and gone back to what was terrible in the first half of last season. It literally looks exactly the same as early last year.
