On thr positive side, Sincs killed it in the guts. Nwm awesome again Jweb and Stocker both very good. Crouch played well again. Hill was good too

Sinclair and NWM are a class above.

Every other club has fixed it by trusting the midfielders they drafted. They get given the keys to the city and their game develops. We sit here and play the same blokes every week and wonder why our midfield isn't working. The mids can't get any worse than what they are, give Windy, Pou, and Owens a proper run in the guts and watch their ability grow exponentially.

We don't draft many of them, Windhager played on-ball but he's not in the same league as Fletcher and Ashcroft. Owens went into the middle to ruck and actually looks great rucking but those quick guys in Brisbane's side have the ball out before we'd even looked at it.

Our midfield is exposed this season with Steele and Ross way off and Gresham looking like an absolute spud. Throwing kids in isn't going to help. Brisbane can have their kids run around free because we still have to mind Neale types while they run free. We'd be throwing ours to the lions at the moment.

I didn't watch a lot of the match or last week's match, but what little I saw of both, I saw Brad Hill work his arse off and get into everything, he is on fire right now, but just his disposal is so rubbish that it's letting the rest of his game and his team down. He's doing a decent job disrupting play and if his disposal was a little more damaging, we'd be talking about him challenging Sinclair for the B&F.

I saw Byrnes get dragged after kicking a goal, and his reaction afterwards seemed to be pretty emotional - felt for him. From reading the gameday thread, it seems the drag was deserved but harsh timing. Life is like that sometimes.

Hard to watch Steele, King, Wilkie, Marshall, Ross, Gresham, Windy, Hammer, Pou and co right now. Season is slipping quickly away. God it's s**t to be a Saints fan and to always get teased by this club. Will we ever get it right again?

Agree re Hill. I hope he can still be playing like this in 2 years time when he ought to have better connection with more mature (though still young) forwards as Owens, Hammer and Max get more experience under their belts.

I think it is time for cool heads. We’ve had one thrashing and one poor loss all year. Also many wins and a few that could have gone either way. We’re in 6th, may be back to 5th after tomorrow night. We have many promising young players who have their best years ahead. We have an experienced coach who hi clearly has the trust of the players and whose game tactics are proven to get teams to the pointy end of the season.

We’re still well in the hunt for finals. Brisbane are a battle-hardened team who have played prelim finals 2 out of the last 3 years. They’re a tough outfit and despite a shocking first quarter performance we were still in with a chance to win the game in the final Q.

We will start favourites in 5/6 of our next games and we have experienced hardbodied players returning in Jones, DMac and Billings.

See… lots of reasons to stay positive.

We don't have the players. Guys have had an entire career of Richo & Ratts. Probably great guys, but far too soft on standards. Get rid of the professional coasters, and keep the blokes capable of keeping/ rising to a standard that brings winning results. Any of the crew that have reached their ceiling should be reduced to depth or f*cked off.

I think injury has shown us for what we are and that's a pretty blue collar nothing list. We can match it with anyone with effort and system but we can't afford to carry any passengers. Our midfield is thin as it is but at the moment injury and form has it looking like the worst in the league.

Steele might have to go out and give Bytel a few games to win a spot.

GT hates that St Kilda is always a team with a single star rather than a champion team.

Ie, Trevor Barker in a s**t team, plugger, etc

GT is wrong about Sinclair, he is a star but he isn't selfish, it's not his fault he stands out so much compared to most of our other players at present.

He would've loved to have had him in his team back in the mid 2000s but he wouldn't have stood out so much as we had a lot of stars as good as him.

It's depressing to watch this team compared to the teams we had back then along with the great teams we had under RTB in his first coaching stint.

This current team is still a long way short of them even allowing for all the players we have missing with injury.

I have faith that Ross can get us to that level we showed back in 2009 and 2010 but he will need at least a couple of years to get us back to that level.

If Steele is injured then I feel its best to send him away to get cleaned up and let him heal, if he is not injured then send him on holiday and drop him for next weeks game, he needs to get fresh and his body bloody needs it.

Everyone and I mean EVERYONE can see the issues.
Our highly paid coaching staff can't for God knows why

None of our coaches have had much to work with. 20 years of the worst drafting in history aren't turned around quickly unless you make no mistakes and that hasn't been the case.

Play in front of 25 k at Marvel or 60 k most weeks

We most likely miss finals again no one is coming to StKilda

Unfortunately we are going to have to keep nailing the draft and try to find some state league and alternative pathways talent to top up. I don't know why we didn't grab Ethan Phillips over Cordy. He'd be at least a capable instant Howard update.

Blokes who seriously need a spell:

Hammer
Windhager
Poo
Paton
Burns
Gresh

Blokes ready to come in:

If we could stop sides kicking goals, sometimes multiple goals, in the last few minutes of pretty much every quarter we play in we may pinch a few extra wins and play finals.
Yer that's not the answer. Got to keep pumping games into young kids like Windy and Hammer or in 3 years time we will be all saying the same thing about having no talent.

The last 3 weeks Gresh has had 35 centre bounce attendances (3rd highest mid in the team) for 0 centre bounce clearances.

At the ground, I thought he looked much better chasing and hassling but he's just lost all confidence and skill. Any X factor has dried up and he looks lost. He is a shell of the player he was half way through last year. If he was a racehorse you'd take him out the back paddock with your rifle. It's hard to watch.

Our forward line is absolute shit at the moment too. No selfless play like early in the year and everyone trying to eat from the same plate.

Well I’m over my pity party. Looking at the positives. Jack Sinclair is an elite player…

That’s all I’ve got for now.

Nas will be and soon. Has the same touch.

It's not one or the other. I didn’t want Ratten or Lyon. I wanted an untried coach from a successful, winning program that was currently in the AFL system.

Instead we went for a guy 3 years removed and surrounded him with ex St.Kilda players.

The club has been trying to extract every drop from ordinary lists for too long and never drafted or developed enough youth. We didn't know which ones to persist with or drop and have generally run the footy department with no eye over it.

Coaches can only do so much. We had injury and fell away last year, got injury this year and fell way again. I think there is a theme. We need to keep stockpiling talent and making the most of it.

What Lyon has shown us is that the list just isn't in the same league as the top 4 sides and with injury we don't look top 8. Who knows what we need now. It's kind of frustratingly close but so far away.

I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed watching us play.
Probably round 4 against the bombers.
Win lose or draw it would be nice to get back to playing some enjoyable football.

Yeah, that was about as enjoyable as shitting yourself and having to sit in it for 2 hours in the cold. Ugly dull footy made worse by the loss.

Maybe we can pluck out an old gun rookie from nowhere like Roy Hobbs that took the New York Knights from the cellar to a pennant in The Natural.

That was a fantasy though and Robert Redford was playing a rookie that was in his mid 30s when he was actually in his late 40s when he made that film

That would be like Robert Harvey making a comeback and taking us to a flag, as awesome as that would be I can't see it happening.

I feel you. I feel like meth would be a healthier addiction for me than St Kilda FC

My son has kind of begrudgingly got back on board this year, by three quarter time he was begging to go home and angry that he'd left the door open for them to start ruining his weekends again. They are ****ing hard work.

Oh cmon, idk how they count a centre clearance, but I can remember at least 4. I’m not saying the stat is wrong, but I’ve seen him rip it out of the pack and bang it forward from centre clearance. FWIW.
