100% agree, If he doesn't play tomorrow it would be another example of our club being horrendous at developing young players.
I get the feeling that Scott rates match sim form during training sessions as much as he does vfl form.

We continue to see our kids barely feature in vfl because they are carryover emergencies or subs. We also seemingly see senior guys selected straight into the seniors after injury for the most part. Also in daveys case getting regular senior games despite never really having vfl form.

VFL standard has dropped off significantly, maybe I don’t blame him. There doesn’t seem to be much emphasis put into vfl wins or even the program in general.

Is it possible that Scott rates what’s he sees on the training track higher than vfl form?

What happens on the track does have an impact for sure. They are basically rebuilding the VFL program again so it has limitations as far as how much structure you can play with a lot of the squad in the VFL having played 15 VFL games or less.
Archie Roberts is an example. Played some decent VFL footy but has been on the fringe because he has not mastered the defensive set up you where talking about with the Skinny wing play and the set up.
We are at the stage where you need the effort in the VFL but also be improving in the match sim and every aspect of the preparation if you want to play. Then in the case of Hayes you have to wait for opportunity as McKay / Laverde / Ridley are in front of him .
I suspect that is where Bryan is also just missing out. Doing good stuff in the VFL but just has not taken the last step that gets him in as a regular and some of that has been not fully matching Goldy over pre season and the continual match sim.

Lav is overmatched as a tall defender. He’s better as a medium and Ridley is best free so it’s a combination of Denial and structural stubbornness keeping Hayes out of the side (because one of Lav/Hepp/Kelly would likely be out)

If there’s one thing that’s frustrating about Brad Scott it’s his ability to accept good enough play from guys at sub optimal positions when he likes them

Why would we waste a week of development of caddy by having him the hold over player. He had his best game just before the bye, allow him to build some form. So dumb
Totally agree.

Not hoping for any injuries.
But hoping for a late out.

Play the kid… we’re safe in the top 4*.

*enjoying it whilst it is a thing. Apart from Sydney and #### cartlton, everyone else is falling over.

Half agree.

Half don’t.

Coach has swung a lot of players around in Cox (he is a utility though), Hind, Kelly, Menzies, Menzies, Menzies?!?!, Redman… sure there are others. But haven’t seen many of those not part off.
Maybe Tsatas on a wing wasn’t super successful.

Who is on your list?

in no particular order

Langford (def) Weid (FF) Heppell (AFL) Lav (KPD) Stringer (SF) Merrett (HF last season) Martin (HB has helped him grow but he’s ready to go back to wing) Wright (Ruck) McGrath (Primary distributor) , Ridley (KPD) Hobbs (HF/Wing) Caldwell (Defensive HHF) Tsatas (wing) Sheil (Sub)

I care less about the fringe players. Being moved around because they have to find a spot to settle. It’s the good players where it bugs me when they have a proven skillset that looked good in a role that they could execute with consistency and are getting moved away from it for no real reason

You’re probably drawing a fair list in response. Agree there are a few doozies in there including Martin, Ridley, Tsatas and Merret.
A few others were ok like Wright (back up ruck), Lav saved his career going back (long before this coach).
I think Shiel is playing in his best position, just in the magoos… 🤷

I think Scott has the list basically ranked from best player to worst and tries to pick a team of the best 22 players, with only secondary consideration to where they will need to line up

How many times has Lave been beaten this year ? Seriously beaten ? He has not every week. He has had games where he has actually saved us .Personally I would like to see Hayes in and Lav out but I am not going to be critical of the coach for backing in one of the older players who is a bit of a heat and sole player now days and is not playing poor footy. You do not build the culture you want by doing that.
The other issue is you or I do not know exactly how the match sim plays out every week. There have been times that I have seen match sim where Hayes has had issues with Jones . If the coach is also using internal match sim as a form guide then that has a few alarm bells ringing. If he is not beating our forwards on the track in a game where everyone knows the game plan then he is not going to get in on VFL form alone where he is often playing on similar aged forwards.

For no real reason ? How about expanding a players ability in more areas or simply finding new areas that work ? If you want to build something it is not just about get games into the kids and hope for the best. It is about developing the older players on the list as well and building a standard of buy in and professionalism.

Had a chuckle. Well played.

Ess have to get the 4 points today. Love it to be a masterclass effort but a win will see them finish the round on 3rd.
Go bombers

I don’t know why this keeps getting brought up, like it matters at all. Setterfeild absolutely played skinny wing at times during the Carlton game.
Okay, so what's skinny wing? Setterfield should never be on any kind of wing.
