Will Ashcroft. That’s all. That’s the post.

Was constantly surprised tonight at some of the absurd stuff he was doing. Full in and under too, none of this cheap stuff Daicos gets lorded for.

Was also very impressed with Rayner in the middle tonight. I wonder if next week it’s worth just chucking him on ball for most of the game and seeing if he has the tank for it now, because watching him break through tackles like prime Dusty was incredible.

Lester is pretty good. always wondered why he was dropped when he's never really played a bad game.
He along with Dev, McCarthy, Ah Chee etc are the role players that are the difference between a Grand Final and going home week 1 or 2.

He needs to stay. Arguably our most consistent back half player now.
Without a doubt. The fact that Fagan dropped him for Gardiner against Hawthorn was mind blowing. He then comes straight back into the side and is playing even better. He is going from strength to strength. He ran 15.4 km tonight, 0.1 km less than Andrews game high, Lester rebounds in straight lines down the corridor and he is quick and powerful. Run down intercept spoil, showed pace and high football IQ in the third was inspirational- applies shepherd, allowing McCluggage to pick up to McCarthy to Ah Chee who marks and goals! Your goal Ryan Lester!

Wow. Dunstall must not watch many of our games!

That was some prime old man yells at clouding. I assume he must have planned to say something about the Tigers at half time but had to bin it because it became completely irrelevant.

Something I loved tonight was the second efforts and 1%ers. Coleman and Ah Chee especially, so many times would just tap the ball forward to advantage (usually Ashcroft lmao) and generate an inside 50 out of NOTHING. The entire team was humming tonight. If we can capture that essence come finals time we’ll be there on the big day no question.

Few other things I’d like to mention:

Joe 3rd in the Coleman now, and that’s without dining out on the eagles yet like the others near the top have

Only 1.1% off Melbourne, and 5% off Collingwood now percentage wise.

I think losing the third tall had been monumental for Rayner.

Knows Joe and hippy and Charles patterns and can just get on with playing instinctively around them. And his instincts are superb.

Have not missed the boys trying to 'honour' gunston's leads. That rubbish was painful. And Stoopid. Earn the ball with your lead, don't look for sympathy passes. (to be fair, that came from Fagan, gunston was just caught up in a bad case of stars in the coaches eyes).

Ps on Rayner. How strong is this guy. Opposition come at him full force and he just waltzes through them like they are five year olds. Incredible.

We noticed it and replayed it just after it happened. And laughed.

Easy to go at hippy on that vision but we can't see what else was going on and what hippy was copping. Could be nothing, could be way worse.

Him and Cam have been doing this to one another for years. YEARS.

Advocating violence for a lil ol cheese grater ?

Ahh didn't look at the clip in the post.

The clip he showed on tv and discussed was when Joe took the mark and hippy turned around immediately and got up in a Richmond player face clapping and giving him crap.

Not the chess grater.

Wasn't anything particularly bad imo.

actually yes .i thought joe was good tonight apart from the usual crap ruck work, acts of selfishness and idiocy...........pretty good. i just wish we could remove Joes brain and replace it with calum AhChe's..........what a player that would be.

ryan was superb tonight

Really? Andrew’s, Starc, McKenna, Payne………
"arguably"

and yes arguably I think he has been.

I think he performs week in week out, gives 100 per cent, provides leadership. The others you name have had poor games over the past 5 or 6 weeks which have been discussed at length through out review threads of their particular week.

Lester? I can't recall a poor game. He might not get the disposals or does the flashy stuff but he rarely if ever loses a contest, doesn't turn the ball over, supports his team mates with bumps, knock ons and shepherds, no brain fades and doesn't give away silly free kicks. He's the ultimate professional and I can guarantee you every single one of our blokes who ran out there tonight love having him in the team.

So yes... arguably I think he's our most consistent performer of the back half since he's come in. If you got a problem with that opinion... cool but I'd like to hear why.

WTF?

Which acts of selfishness would these be?

From where I was sitting, he could have kicked at least 7 but for his un-selfishness.

He passed off on at least three occasions when he would have been well justified in having a shot himself. The results were mixed, so ok call that "idiocy" if that floats your boat.

But selfishness?

Just no.

I think a few have been vindicated who have been saying for ages that Lester and Ah Chee in particular are first team players - period. The coaches were stubborn and it was detrimental overall to our ladder position with the losses we put up when certain players had been cooked for months, yet still got picked.

Lester's omission for Gardiner against Hawks like you said was up there with the most idiotic decision for some time based on what I have NFI. It was foolish and short sighted whilst not dropping Rich and Gunstan.

Negatives = Rayner NOT kicking a goal and booting me out of the goal kicking comp.

Funny ibservation on the night = Playney giving a young fella a ball after the game who was wearing a Souths jersey.

Votes were pretty tonight 5 Lester 4 Neale, 3 McCluggage 2 Daniher 1 Ashcroft

Shame Ah Chee will miss next week and Linc will be suspended for just a stupid act - possibly Zorko and Lohmann as ins and possible Gardiner in for Playne if Jack is doesnt come up.
