With the possible exceptions of Brisbane at the Gabba and Magpies at the ‘G, we should and must win every other remaining H & A game, if we are a credible Premiership threat.
If the injury Gods would just have a little pause from beating us over the head for a while, we should be able to regain some mojo and structural consistency moving forward.
Danger and Sav back this week, fully rested. C. Guthrie and Jezza back around Round 18-19. I’m all in on the idea of using the forced protocol outage to extend for 2-3 weeks with Jezza. Get him rested.
Plenty of depth to manage a number of players who might need a rest over the next 5-6 weeks. 2E, Kolo, Hawkins, Smith, Atkins, Blicavs spring to mind.
“Fortunately” our injuries have shortened the season for a number of key players so there is little or no further need to manage them.

Yep. If we have a pretty full complement on the park, we will beat the pies. I only see us losing the brissy game.

Nothing wrong with pessimism - it's not a moral category.

Thus let me say I think we're no certainties to win this game: we've flogged them twice but that doesn't mean we're going to repeat the dose.

But i do think if we can win this we'll be on our way to several wins on the trot, which can see us feature in September. We'll need to see the chasing and tackling pressure we applied in the last stanza playing the Dees.

Some good points but why do I hold my breath nearly every time he gets the ball. No other player in the team has that effect on me. Ratugolea will get better, Kolo is a seasoned player and what you see now is as good as it gets. He played a great grand final, but there was no pressure on once Geelong got out in front. When the pressure is on I worry about him.
My advice: don't.

So the more I think about what the coach said this week about “managing players” I am convinced he has said that to throw us (me) off!! To be that #for#forthrightt does sit well…😮

So I think we will only have 1 change after all

Out Jezza
In Danger

What I do think is that Sav will be named Emergency (If I had to guess alongside Bowes, Dempsey and maybe Mullin - so we have a forward, mid, running back and KP)…

That does allow for a late change if they do indeed manage a player. But I think they will hold that back right until game day

I'm guessing it's chinacats. Put him on ignore.

He wants this reaction.
I have simply never understood this suggestion; he's the one deliberately annoying people and ****ing up the board, so why should I be the one put to the inconvenience of disrupting my following and understanding of the thread?

As someone who has been irked constantly by this type of poster on the board, and quit multiple times over it, I think what Jhye Clark 13 is getting at is that there's more chance of you being able to change your behaviour than them changing theirs. Therefore, you can actually make the decision to be the bigger person in the context of the harmony of the board, and not let them disrupt things any further - as that's what their aim is with this whole ridiculous repetitive chain of posts that make me feel like Sysiphus every time I read them :tearsofjoy:

Mine was a throwaway comment, as I already have them on ignore and I know they won't take it on board. I still like them to know that they're ridiculous though, from time to time.

Trust me though, I absolutely get where you're coming from.

Why don't I feel like "the bigger person" when I am forced to tolerate obnoxious morons?

Is that for JK or ER - genuinely hard to tell, because it's likely a 50/50 spilt between as to peoples perception on both players with ball in hand

It's a fair point what you say in the rest of your post, but realistically, that applies to all players - we just need to look at Tommy Stewart when teams really focus in on him, apply the pressure and take him out of his comfort zone such as what Port Adelaide did. He didn't have a good match that night, and it's been that way past 12 or so months when teams really apply the pressure, but as fans as seem more willing to forgive him for an off night compared with others

In this instance, you'll notice hardly any disruption, and certainly no loss of understanding.

Trust me.

Whats Geelong Win/Loss record when Cameron isnt in the team

Huge money for Geel last week against Melb - backed in to clear cut favourites and duly saluted

This week the big money for the Swans - early market $1.75 Geel $2.10 Syd - its now $1.90 a piece

Swans walloped Eagles - but 2-3 weeks back at the SCG - Stkilda made them look 2nd rate and subsequently StKilda have not franked that form one iota

Geel win win - if the whole team play with Atkins efforts/concentration that he performed against Melb - 4 good strong qts of football from him - where as alot of them went AWOL in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs

Not sure how much intel the coaching staff would've got out of watching the tape of the Swans game last week. Their opponents last week would've lost to several suburban teams based on the effort they put up, or to be more precise, the lack of effort.

Where as I'd describe both guys the opposite

Kolodjashnij plays as the stronger KPD option, who as you said beats & neutralizes his opponents, but he also knows how to get a first in the way in marking contests and is actually quite a solid intercept marking option - it's just the way he goes about his role, and because there's not a lot of flash to how he goes about things that he doesn't always get the recognition for the job he does

While Ratugolea looks more a role player type, who looks more comfortable playing as a tall flanker in that 40m+ distance from goal where he seems to have more freedom to go for intercept marks & option to drop off his direct opponent - the closer his opponent brings him back towards the goals, the more he seems to panic & not look as comfortable; those are the situations he seems most vulnerable & uncomfortable

I'm also not sure I remember too many times where Ratugolea's neutralized two opponents at the same time, and crashing packs is still an overrated & overused term - no point needlessly jumping into a pack when it achieves nothing but the ball dropping at the fall of the pack. I'd rather see him know when to go for the mark, jump with the intention of putting a fist through the ball & sending it into the crowd and when to stay down, because all too often (and not specific to ER), we have multiple players jumping into packs with no one staying down, and it presents an easy takeaway for the opposition

I’d have to disagree. Esava has played on the oppo’s no. 1 KPF most games he’s played this year, whereas Kolo often plays on a teams 2nd or 3rd forward - he’s just not big enough. You would never play Kolo on Tom lynch, the king brothers, Daniher etc.

Like you say, they’re different players, so you can make arguments either way on who’s ‘better’. But I think you have to give credit to Esava for what he has achieved this year.

Definitely a 50/50 game.
Hard to get a read on the swans after that game. Going off Longmire’s presser, can’t see Franklin or Tom Mccartin coming back in.

It really doesn’t. It does the exact opposite. Can’t recommend it highly enough.

Maybe he isn’t playing - this was from Longmire’s press conference earlier today

On Lance Franklin
“He’s coming along quite well. He’s going to do some training tonight which is a good sign. He ran on Monday and pulled up well from that. We’re just mindful of how much training he needs to do to come back and get ready to play. We’ll make that call tonight.”

But if we’re looking at Franklin’s 2023 form, not sure it’s really that bigger loss for Sydney and if anything it can be a blessing for them if he’s not available

I'd still rather he didn't play.
