Me too. Absolutely.

Who are our key defenders given Grundy is now, seemingly, ROKed

Agree.

The beauty of our defence is you have the sturdy defence of Grundy, the rebounding athleticism of Aliir, and then Sir Dane who can kinda do both. Take one of those cogs away and the whole machine becomes a lot more ineffective. If Grundy is being ROKed, he’s basically making life harder for Rampe & Aliir. So nobody wins really.

I may be wrong, but I thought emergencies were always named in the NEAFL Squad after the AFL Side was released. It doesn't then mean they will actually play?

In the past we have played blokes week in week out without looking forward.

Longmire a couple of times this year has managed guys - eg: Papley was named as an emergency when he was an out as managed. It may be as simple as - he wants him to have a rest, but if he needs to play, he's there ready to go. I think Jack may have been the same when he missed a week. The next 5 weeks are huge for us, Grundy will be apart of those games. He'll then get another week off, and ready to go again for another 4.

hewett couldnt stop higgins. he was smashed. that was the story of their marks inside 50. withot allir and rampe's run we wouldnt have been in that game.

That’s why I don’t want to drop AA. His run is critical. Have to say Marsh was extremely good in this regard last week as well

Grundy playing NEAFL makes zero sense.
Yes, it does... you want him to keep his match fitness (you might need him), you want to trial the young blokes, maybe tweak a few here and there and you want to debut Cameron. They're not much interested in whether his career fizzles out or goes out with a bang, but I'd guarantee that Horse & Reg have had a respectful discussion about where Horse sees the team going, and what impact he sees Grundy having in that team.

Reg is at the end of his career, maybe has one more year in him, maybe not.

If Grundy plays on next year then then it becomes difficult to fit Mills and Melican back in with the players they have in the team this week. May not be able to sell to some of the younger guys to just wait another year. So to me it does seem a little strategic but it’s a sad way to go out. Grundy has been nothing but loyal and solid for the club I hope they give him every chance to either return to the line-up or go out on his terms if that is where this is going. He is possibly our best pair of hands one on one at moving the opponent of the line of the ball and taking the grab. We need that reliability as much as we need dashing defenders.

Hope he has a great game in the magoos if he does take his place.

I really, really hope you are right!

"I'm definitely enjoying my footy. If the club want to keep me playing, and I feel like I can play a role for the team, an important part for the team, I'm happy to keep playing," Grundy told Fairfax Media.
Grundy's pre-season was affected by injury, which affected his form early in the year, but he believes he is now seeing the silver lining of not having to do as much over summer.
"Because I was forced to miss a bit of the preseason I actually feel a lot better this year than I have the last three or four years," Grundy said. "Just carrying a few niggles and injuries, it gave them the opportunity to settle down a bit and freshen up. This year I've been able to train a lot more, do most of the training, I feel really good actually."
Grundy, who plays a different defensive role to Aliir, said his younger teammate had a big future.
"He's definitely showed he's capable at AFL level. He was unbelievable when he played in the seniors and provides some real run and rebound for us when he's playing at his best," Grundy said. "He's a very good player. We know that, he knows that."

Reading between the lines, to me there doesn't seem to be anything non amicable between both parties.
My curious mind has me thinking that we will do some serious trading with GC to help them get some stability with senior players around the club as well as looking after some of our loved older players with careers beyond playing for the Swans & with the Stewy Dew connection, rest assured there will be some Swans players moving up that way to extend their employment in the industry, be it playing or in a coaching capacity as we did with Malceski.

So I strongly believe the Reg may get a year to play with the GC & will be well remunerated to do it. Much better scenario than if he fizzled out with us.

I'd be happy with that for Reg.

That’s really nothing to do with the way it’s been done, you don’t have to blindly agree with the club, we aren’t essendon

Having read the article from Wu Reg is gone.

Stick a fork in him he is done.

That is the classic example of the club using a reporter to justify a decision with background briefing. They sent Wu out to make it palatable and give everyone a few days to get used to it.

I'm gobsmacked at the speed people seem to be writing off Reg.
Thought it was a joke at first. Surely it's a joke....
He will be back next week and be the rock he's been for the last umpteen years.
I even saw him win a foot race against the Cats two weeks back.

Well I really hope it is not a ROK situation with Reg but I have this feeling it is.

Call me old fashioned but I really like my key defenders to defend first and worry about all the other shit later.

Heap big bullshit conspiracy theory with no basis here but last week I thought moving AA forward late was as much about getting him the **** out of defending anything, given how badly he was toweled up, rather than he was the best guy to go forward.

It worked, he had a great game over all and blah blah but that super highly rated power forward Daw did flog him. After Harry Taylor made him work as well.

I really like AA as a player but key defender not so much. Perfect third unaccountable run around and do nice stuff guy. Great short kick. Makes ridiculous defensive errors trying screaming pack marks when he should kill the contest and all that. Has vision. Athletic.

Reg ain't like that. Give you bugger all flash but lots of steady. I like steady in the last line.

I will reiterate since I will be accused of "hating" or "not rating" the flavor of the month, I do rate and like him and what he brings to the team, but as a key defender I shudder to think what a JR or Hawkins or anyone with class that knows how to play forward would do to him at the moment.

You lost a bit of credibility with this line, Allir gave Harry Taylor an absolute bath in the Geelong game

It's more than a month old that article.

Nothing to see here, Grundy will be named next week

Yeh you go with that.

I never had any credibility. EVER.

Don't you dare ever try to imply I did. ****ing hate it, HAAAATE IT, when idiots imply I know what the **** I am talking about.

SMH is printing month old articles in todays dead tree edition?

Look at todays paper dude.

I really hope that isn’t true because if so, Reg is being made collateral damage from our shit midfield which Horse refuses to fix.
Have you specifically asked him to fix it? No, then he probably hasn't refused... Looks like he has made a fair few changes over the past 12 months to me.

Ah - I clicked on the link a few posts above - it was dated June 14.
Meh to today's article.
He'll be back. There is no way in the world Rampe and AA can hold down KPD spots against most teams.
Interesting that Maibaum isn't been given a shot though...

Don’t really care, sometimes I just like talking shit with ted to be honest

I would just say Reg is out like they did with okeefe, at least made some comment to the fans

You love saying I do this don't you.
Any opportunity you get.

Yes it’s our thing I thought

Then you make passive aggressive comments are armchair critics etc when we win
