Round 18 - Adelaide Crows vs West Coast Eagles
Sunday July 18 @ Adelaide Oval

Following our last gasp win over Richmond, a poll was created on the West Coast BigFooty board asking punters how many of the next four games we were going to win. The answer, thus far, has been zero. The club is coming off a third loss in a row, this time embarrassingly defeated at home by bottom-placed Norf.

The loss even prompted an impromptu email from rusted-on CEO Trevor Nesbitt (below), reassuring members that the club will come back stronger than ever. Although reading between the lines one can't help but feel he may have more sinister plans in mind...

There's not much to discuss that hasn't already been discussed this week, so let's get straight to the key match ups, shall we?

Key Match Up 1 - The Coaches

Softy Simmo vs the GOAT assistant. Face it, we all knows Simpson would be nowhere without good assistant coaches. Pyke is sure to lift against the team that didn't want him.

Adelaide 1 - West Coast 0

Key Match Up 2 - The Logos

The Eagles logo is facing east, towards the covid-ravaged eastern seaboard. The Crows logo is facing south-east, towards pristine, covid-free Tasmania.

Adelaide 2 - West Coast 0.

Not looking great so far with these key match ups.

Key Match Up 3 - The Receding Hairlines

Adelaide 2 - West Coast 1.

Team Selection

The Eagles have turned to their "Department of Youth" for this match, with the two Edwards (Harry and Luke) back in the side along with mature-age, mid-season, father-son-kinda debutant, Connor West.

Tom Barrass is injured, whilst Slippy Nelson has been dropped and almost-Mark of the Year winner Brendan Ah Chee is also injured

Summary

Danger game.
Draw.

Our club is broken.

I tipped Adelaide.

Didn't you listen to Simpson and the players when they give interviews?

Everyone at the club is hurting but we learned a lot from last weeks loss.

We got this.
Eagles by 20 goals.

I didnt have a good feeling about the roos game, feeling slightly more confident about this one

In the final seconds of the last quarter with the scores tied Eagles youngster Harry Edwards does the unthinkable and kicks the ball out of defence down the middle of the ground to an unmarked Eagles player. (Adam Simpson shakes his head in disgust).

Luke Edwards marks the ball and immediately plays on (Adam Simpson is now ropeable).

Edwards handpasses to Connor West who, playing on instinct, bounces the ball not once but twice, and kicks long to the goalsquare (Adam Simpson is now jumping up and down in anger).

In the goalsquare Oscar Allen takes a contested mark against his direct opponent and goes back to kick the winning goal.

When asked about the last play that wins the Eagles the game Adam Simpson simply shrugs his shoulders and says: ‘Things don’t always go to plan.

"I am devastated that the ball wasn't given to Shannon Hurn deep in the backline for him to take an eternity to kick it to the right hand side of the ground to a pack, which he does 99 times out of 100. From there, the ball should have been roved off the pack by an Adelaide Crows player, while our players stand by aimlessly flapping their hands like seagulls, as I have instructed them not to tackle, just to coral in the hope that miraculously the Crows player will make a mistake with absolutely no pressure on him.

"From there, Jeremy McGovern would have performed his usual act of being unaccountable and running back to the goal square in the hope of taking an easy uncontested mark while his opponent runs free to take a simple chest mark and convert from 30 metres out.

"It is clearly evident that these young players Edwards x 2, West and even Allen, who should know better, will have to be dropped, because we can't be winning games of football through commonsense, fast ball movement, direct play down the middle of the ground combined with playing on instinct."
