Would. Hough be better on Dawson? Especially when forward.

Likely beats him for pace and similar height. Would be a great scalp for Hough taking Dawson out of the game.

I like Sheed getting a semi run with role, makes him accountable. Maybe goes to the in form Solgio as a young mid likely finds it harder to shake the attention.

If we reduce Solgio and Dawson's infuence that gets as half way to a win IMO.
Dawson doesnt play as a forward, just starts there often as the extra mid so they can fit Soligo/Crouch/Laird/usually Rankine in the CBAs.
Do we want Hough running through the midfield? Im not a fan personally

Soligo might be a bit quick for Sheed, but then Soligo has never dealt with a tag before either. Could be easier than Dawson

Probably not unless we are resting players, which would be weird with so many winnable games coming up and the bye only a few weeks away

Just listened to Simo's press conference.

Hall travelling as an emergency for the experience. As others alluded to. Happy if he plays but still building.

Dewar as sub. If he only gets short minutes this week like last he will go back for a full game in the WAFL. Happy with his progress but has alot to build on.

So Hall could play sub in coming games at home fr9m the sounds of that.

Ok, so we might get to see Hall and/or Culley play before the bye, couple of home games?

We’re getting close to seeing what the best version of our side for 2024 looks like

Long is out for the year so whilst he’s best 22, we won’t see him until next year unfortunately.

Hewett and Bazzo are still some time away from returning and will probably need a run of WAFL games before being ready. Every possibility they don’t get back in time to force they’re way in to the 22, if at all

Flynn will inevitably make his way into the 22, potentially as early as next week if he plays well in the WAFL tomorrow. That would push JWill out of the side whilst BWill takes the forward/ruck we’d planned for

Petruccelle likely replaces Jones in the forward line once he recovers from his ankle injury which again could be as soon as next week

That leaves Allen, after the bye, as the only other best 22 player to come in at the expense of one of the tall forwards. Either Darling or more likely Maric

So from this 22 it would be Allen, Flynn, Petruccelle in for JWill, Maric and Jones

Those paying attention will note the above leaves Sheed in the best 22. He’s position would be the most vulnerable as he the 7th midfielder who likely spends time as a HHF.

Means that the likes of Brockman, Jones or Dewar, perhaps even Maric or Culley, could take his spot in the 22 if Simpson wants an extra forward at the expense of a midfielder. Luke Edwards is also a possibility if he finds touch in the WAFL

Darling would remain under pressure from Maric. Likewise Bailey Williams from Jack Williams

Down back, Rotham would need to maintain form to keep out either Harry Edwards or Jamieson when he returns

Youngsters like Burgiel, Johnston and Hall need to keep playing well because history tells us there’ll be further injuries and Simpson has shown a willingness to put the young guys in if there’s an opening

Really healthy competition for spots in the next month

Maric has been playing some wing so depending who we go with there (seems to be one position that we've tried a few different players this season) he might be retained albeit in a different spot on the ground.

Should see some increased performances in the WAFL as players make their claim for a call up.

The only thing with the defenders is, it will probably be match up specific. Rotham with more pace than Jamieson or Edwards and plays a slightly different type of role.

Forwards will be hard done by, but the ruck role could be evolving as well.

Would've preferred Hall not to lose another week of development...never mind.
Depends on what you mean by development.

He’s been playing against men for the last 12 months - a week or two away from that won’t do him too much harm.

Experiencing what it looks like at the next level on the road can only be good for his development long term.

For his own continuity, it would be good for him to play some footy (and as travelling emergency there’s always a chance he still might) but there is more to life as an AFL footballer than just footy, especially for us Travelling so often of which he will need to become accustomed to. I am quite happy he gets to experience being a part of the group this way.

Yes, Hewett is not a given with that type of foot injury unfortunately, then as you say getting up to match speed in time, maybe round 18 or 20 (home games) with a bit of luck. It would be something special to see him on the ground with Harley; hope we get to see this before season's end. He looks in top shape though.

Regarding our best version of team 2024, just feel we need to see how Culley and Hall impact the team when/if given their chances, so then we've just about had a complete overview of those available.
I make the mistake of lumping Culley and Hall together, obviously Culley has had more AFL experience and rising star nominee, while the younger Hall has yet to play but comes with good raps. Also to see the dynamics between them and Harley.
A pity to see JWill forced out but it's a healthy situation to be in.

Our list and competition for spots is in a healthy place at present, such a swingaround from last year. Flynn is a huge in, with almost a 50% hit out success rate, feeding our mids. Just need to sort out the Wafl fiasco, was it Schoey saying Pike is giving this some attention? Bit of a top priority!

Would like to see Hunt used as the 7th defender, Witho omitted and Maric used on a wing when Oscar comes back.

Great points.

With JWilliams, people may disagree with me and that is fine, but I wonder if he may overtake Bailey for the second ruck / forward position. He is a better forward than Bailey and has shown he can ruck. Just my thoughts.

In three years time we could have a stacked midfield of Reid, Hewett, Ginbey and Hall... Bwilliams probably still 2nd ruck, not sure who will take first ruck? Maybe Barnett?

Hall's had enough touch in the WAFL this year and sounds to be developing well enough. But it'll be great for his game knowledge to see the AFL midfield go about it too, especially if we get some stoppage work like last week.

He's a first year player and this whole year is about education for him, despite probably him having a higher fitness base than the other draftees.

Couldn't see him overtaking Bailey in the short term. A long term prospect and quality depth at this stage. Not sure if he has Bailey's ruck chops yet. BW is tried and tested in ruck and forward, seems to clunk some pretty good marks forward and around the ground and not bad at ground level, scrimmages and stoppages. The one-two punch has to be Flynn+BBW surely...

I agree with you. Bailey will start as the 2nd ruck when Flynn returns but as Flynn builds match fitness and can eventually ruck almost all of the game except for F50 then IMO JWilliams will become the second ruck due to his superior forward craft and goal kicking.
