There’s always one heartbreaking story in a premiership year. If it has to be anyone Ashcroft isnt the wors. He’ll have a few more cracks at a premiership
Agree, Ashcroft has been great but we can cover his role with another player and/or multiple players sharing more midfield time.

Our most vital players IMO are our 4 talls in Hippy, Joe, Harris and Jack along with Dunkley, Neale and McCluggage. Charlie and Kiddy also important.

No I think Ashcroft leaves a massive hole in the team. He’s by a decent margin our 4th best mid and our second string midfield is IMO our biggest weakness.

just on a personal level. He’s got 15 more years to play in a premiership

You think Ashcroft out is as big as making it terminal re our flag chances?

He is also used as a short hit up target out of defence at times and we seemed to be playing through him a bit more that way. It’s a big loss, whichever way you look at it but hopefully it’s the making of Dev. Certainly won’t lose anything defensively with Dunks and Dev in the middle.

Ashcroft would be a big loss imo.

He's got that bit of X factor and the huge majority of the time just does smart things . And not afraid to get his body over the ball.

He wasn’t jogging around, he was despondent and all the players were going up to him and giving him a hug or arm around his shoulder. Suspect he is thinking the worst.
If it was suspected he's done a knee they'd have wrapped him in cotton wool

Very solid game from Lincoln McCarthy tonight. Kicked a couple and managed a public relations coup by celebrating with a young fan over the fence. It is so great to have a small forward in our side who has the ability to regularly take contested marks. His ability in this regard make him the complete footballer.

Returning to the VFL after two in a row at the higher level, Jarryd Lyons did what he does in Brisbane's 35-point win over Geelong on Saturday, getting plenty of the ball.

The veteran midfielder finished with a game-high 32 disposals to go with eight clearances and a goal.
Ashcroft is a big out if he is injured. I hope he is ok and available for selection at the earliest opportunity. Fortunately, we have the depth to cover his absence.
Deven Robertson returned to the state league this week as well and showed he is also too good for the level, gathering 25 disposals, nine clearances and a goal.

Best contested marking small forward since our last rising star winner.

Daniher is a complete mystery to me.

He has the reputation as a selfish player yet when he got presented with 2 sodas wanted to give it off.

I've got no idea what he's going to do so I guess nor do the opposition.

He's also become remarkably consistent . On track for an AA.
Love our wonderful unpredictable Joe .

Wilmott deserves love - do you know how hard he runs? He didn’t get to Smith but his chase was inspiring late in the game.
One of my favourites ,he gives hundred per cent every week .

Robert Klomp won the colour tellie, Shane Woewodin won a Brownlow and Lewis Taylor won the Rising Star.

Very poorly umpired game, and literally wgat name it so close.

Devastated about Will just not fair. Hoping dev gets a chance and makes the most of it.

Hopefully Kiddys injury isn't serious as he was amazing out there and a class above.

I was at a VAFA match so missed the first half and so I have a different (limited) view on the day.

They were running over us, something that occurs regularly,

Could someone post those disposals stats that are quarter by quarter.

Hipwood and Gunston had poor second halves.

Starcs' coughing up that goal was something that was predictable. We tend to do silly things under pressure.

I'd almost prefer acl to meniscus.

They can reattach the ligament and it comes back to basically fully strength, but torn cartilage doesn't heal well and can be forever problematic.

Did mine 15 years ago, had the surgery and fixed it. Is always the weak point and never 100%.

So s**t for the young fella.
In contrast i had meniscus surgery in both knees 12 years ago and never looked back.
Difficult to read Ashcroft situation - often after an ACL players are walking around as Ashcroft was… but he had a half smile after the match so maybe we’re all reading too much into our lack of medical knowledge.

The sad irony for me is Ashcroft going down put a short paise on the game and halted Geelong’s momentum. Hopefully he was reading the play and went down with a fake injury to create a time out, as is his genius!

My nephew did his acl. He lives in Canada now and had to wait about nine months for surgery.

During that time he continued to run., No pain no problems when going in straight lines. But he'd occasionally forget and make a slightly lateral movement and he'd end up on the deck.

Knees are weird.

Ashcroft is awesome and it will completely suck if he missed his first year of finals.

Knees are weird.
2 years ago I watched Giannis Antetekoumpo bend his knee backwards at a very acute angle, all online doctors said he’d likely done an ACL.

He missed two games then won finals MVP and a championship. Knees are very weird.

Sadly don’t think this will be the case for Will though.

At 34yo and possibly in his final season, with perhaps his best shot at a flag, would it be too much to ask of Zorko to not be a dickhead for just the next 2 months?

Not too much when you consider that he potentially has another 50 years ahead of him to be a proper dickhead

Big applause for Ah Chee, that's absolutely what taking your chance in the firsts looks like. If it's a choice between him and Gunston he should always be selected, but his efforts across the ground made him so much better than just a forward target.

Hard not to think Dunkley is the trade of the season, though McKenna choosing us was also a fantastic inclusion.

Geelong have a very strong defence, so I knew it wasn't going to be the usual shootout. Our defence though was next level, hats off to the boys. If Andrews gets AA this year, a decent chunk of that praise belongs to Payne. I heard them say he's only got 44 games under his belt, but he's absolutely dominating the key forwards in this sport. Got to be close to getting his own AA jacket?

Umpires, let's give them a special mention for ignoring the throws, push in the backs and holding the ball that kept Geelong in it.
