Sicily will play. The tribunal HAS to downgrade medium contact to low. McGrath has said, he didn't even feel it didn't know that it happened. 0 bruises or sore spots.
It’s Sicily. I’m expecting his suspension to double.

we'll win this
I have a good feeling about it also. Though I also felt and had a good feeling that me buying my lady a necklace would lead to a night full of passion last weekend instead of me cleaning the oven and having to sleep on the couch our cat urinated on...so who the heck knows what will happen in this one truly🤷‍♂️.

Go Hawks.

The fact that it's Sicily should be immaterial. The incident should be assessed on its merits. It's a fine at the most. It's not on Sicily. Piss poor effort by his team mates, the umpires and the AFL. Not by Sicily. He was targeted because he's our most influential player, not because he's ... well ... James Sicily. Kudos to the * for getting away with it. Really disappointed by our troops. It was their captain for *s sake.
bunch of soft c#cks cept for sicily and hardwick tbh

Gotta agree with this I am afraid. This group has really, really disappointed in this aspect of the game so far this year. We have been appalling. The right character in footy is irreplaceable.

To think they also got another free kick (kick on goal) and we did not raise the flag was extremely disappointing.

We're 1 game in FFS.
And you want us to fly the flag but not the umpires to give a free kick against??

Will the next Luke Hodge and Jordan Lewis please stand up!!

I don’t give a **** about the free kicks. This is going to happen anyway. I want the group to wave the flag, to be interested in US, to want to do it for US. And by the way, I don’t mean US, I mean THEM.
If you don’t think we need to be harder, be interested in the hard contest as a GROUP, not just Dimma and Sicily, you are entitled to your opinion but we won’t win anything.
If the scum is tougher, please spare me.

I know this is not a popular opinion but I believe the right one. And I am aware that this is a different generation.

Raises the question why aren't we flying the flag for the captain? Does Sic lack that connection with the group?

I don’t think we have one, Sicily plays with anger and maybe Hardwick. That is where it ends. We have not got another player who could physically intimidate the opposition. I am not talking about taking opponents out, as those days are gone. However, you can still have players who are physically intimidating to the opposition, and we don’t have any. We also play a pretty bruise free style of footy. It should be physical mayhem at stoppage, and we never go down that path.

Jai and Nashy are pretty intimidating lads. They can certainly throw their weight around in a tackle. They should have the green light to get into anyone who starts having a go at Sic.

Its a pity that DGB is injured - say what you will about his game, he would be ALL over this!

DGB!!

Loves it - he would have started LITS 2

Melbourne defensive structures are the best in the land. We had huge problems last year transitioning the ball after half time.

The reason teams go down the line is that all options dry up. This is our biggest issue Melbourne wont let us transition through the middle of the ground. I am looking forward to it
So often we would have a switch on though and still bomb it down the line. Happened so frequently. Frustrating. Although, it is easier to see from level 4 and TV

Actually the likeliest candidate to stand up physically for Sic, aside from Hardwick, is Blanck but obviously he's not around to do it. He's the biggest and most combative defender we have. With him out we do lack a certain level of mongrel back there, for better or for worse.

I don't think they intimidate anyone TBH. Newcombe is just tough and hard to tackle, and Nash is huge for a midfielder and can lay a mean tackle.

I'm not sure there are many players in the league that really intimidate oppositions.

Whilst talking about not being physical enough, which I agree with.
But by no coincidence that our best win of the Sam Mitchell era was when we physically battered Collingwood last year.
Would love to see a little more aggression to the opposition, the reaction to our captain getting targeted was not great.

One thing we need to bring is ferocious tackling pressure. Something we’ve really lacked since poppy, Cyril and Breust all played together has been swarming the opposition when they have the ball.

It’s something that will improve us massively overnight. We have a lot of really good endurance runners as well that should be able to provide that consistent pressure.

I'd like to see us kick more through the big sticks this week. Cost us the game last week by failing to apply scoreboard pressure. Need to grab our opportunities this week and make the most of our entries.

Dees looked good this weekend gone, we'll need to be far more competitive at the stoppages and stop allowing easy ball out the front door.

Only three teams had more scoring shots than us in round 1, and two of them came from games against Eagles and North.

If we can start consistently generating 25+ scoring shots each week then the wins will come.

If I was Mitchell, I’d be making sure everyone in the team knows who Stephen May is. Posters of him in the dressing room prior to the game- that sort of thing. I’d then be making the players aware they are duty bound not kick the ball anywhere in his approximate vicinity when mounting an attack. Forget about Lever and whoever else they have lurking down there, May is the linchpin of their defence, as Sicily is the linchpin of ours. And he dines out on the blind high ball into the forward 50.

You're spot on, and it's a reason why I am not too concerned at the moment with our side. We saw Newk play one of his poorest games in the brown and gold, Nash well below his best and wr got dominated in the centre yet we still had more scoring shots, more inside 50s, more marks inside 50 and more contested ball.

There's plenty of positives to take out of our first game and if expect continual improvement as the team gels.

And Max Gawn

Every time we lose to them, it's because we keep putting it on gawns head
