I think the problems in the backline can be fixed, just by the players playing a lot tighter than they have been. But the forward line is the greater problem, because we have absolutely no structure there at all.The opposition defenders are just taking ridiculously easy marks because our forwards can not and will not compete in the air.I don’t know what the answer is because the cupboard is pretty bare, thanks to a lack of recruiting key forwards over a number of years.

There’s some passengers no doubt, but that tonight was an alarm bell match for how we play. Two areas that were woeful was our connection exiting D50 and our transition defence. I’d love to have the stats, but I feel like we couldn’t buy a free target inside 70 of their goal which meant we were continuously bombing it to the edge of the square. They flood numbers there, spread harder and either score or rinse and repeat if we win it back off them.

Take Shoota his first touch was late 2nd Q and it was because the ball spent 70% of the 1st half in their half of the ground. He couldn’t get to work. It played like we’d been figured out. Last year there were a lot of contests where we edged behind by 3 goals, but pulled one back at a crucial stage or they missed a crucial SOG allowing us to take it deep and get over the line. Neither of which has happened the past fortnight because of how easy we are to move the ball against giving them really good looks I25. Personnel won’t change a thing is the crux of it.

Out: AJ and WHE
In: McInnes and Mitchell

I think the first is shuffling deck chairs on the titanic, but the second is about getting Mitchell back in and a what I think the club will do not what I would necessarily do move.

We need a change with our tall defenders because it's not just working.

Swap Frampton for Dean and see if that changes anything, not that Dean has been terrible.

Johnson is obviously out and may not come back in. Reef comes in

Markov for Noble, no real reason just Markov has been shit.

Pendlebury to start on the bench and play lose half back for a bit until we get our mojo back.

Macrae comes in and WHE sub

In: McInnes, Mitchell, Macrae, Frampton
Out: Johnson, Sidebottom, Dean, Hoskins-Elliott (sub)

I don’t think these changes will lead to a win. But they should hopefully lead to not getting pumped again

But given we’ve had difficulty scoring in the first two games, I shudder to think how little we’re going to score against a Ross Lyon coached St.Kilda the way we’re playing

We put far too much faith in a Darcy Moore intercept or a spoil 75m out from our own goal. If this doesn’t come off we are too exposed inside D50 due to playing an agressive backline, and we’ve been shown up with loose forwards i50 in back to back weeks. Frampton has to come in and play as the anchor behind Moore and the developing Dean.

Reef in for AJ and fitting Noble and Fin in to the starting 22 - are the only other clear changes for me atm. Have a look at a mixture of Howe, Mihocek and Reef i50, with Moore, Dean and Frampton down back.

Neither McInnes or Frampton highlighted in the takeaways from the VFL practice match on the CFC app is ominous. Frampton kicked a goal but that’s the only mention of them. What do people who saw the game think of their performances?

I saw a bit of the vfl. Reef did some nice things. He played further up the ground. He had a chance to kick a goal, but we were inaccurate early.. when I was there. Frampton kicked our first goal.

Fly said there will be changes.
While they backed Ash in, he said he will lose his spot. He needs to go back and find the things he is known for.

He also liked what he saw from Fin, so fingers crossed he gets promoted to the 22.

Sounds like Mitchell will be back too.

Not sure how Mitchell and Macrae play in the same midfield with Pendlebury Sidebottom Lipinksi...

Out: AJ, WHE, Markov, Sidebottom (managed)
In: Reef, Frampton, Noble, Mitchell
Sub: McCreery

B: Darcy Moore ~ Billy Frampton ~ Brayden Maynard
HB: John Noble ~ Charlie Dean ~ Jack Crisp

M: Josh Daicos ~ Finlay Macrae ~ Pat Lipinski
R: Mason Cox ~ Nick Daicos ~ Jordan De Goey

HF: Jeremy Howe ~ Brodie Mihocek ~ Tom Mitchell
F: Bobby Hill ~ Darcy Cameron ~ Jamie Elliott

I/C: Isaac Quaynor ~ Lachie Schultz ~ Scott Pendlebury ~ Reef McInnes
Sub: Beau McCreery

Give Dean a go in Howe’s role and Howe forward. Dean was exposed deep defence but Frampton has better strength for the role. Let Frampton wrestle with the opposition key forwards and Moore/Dean intercept.

We have too many small forwards imo. Drop one to sub and move Howe up as a lead up high half forward.

Whilst Reef deserves a crack I don’t him coming in for Johnson’s spot solves anything. It depend on how much Cox can last in the ruck but I’d like to play Cameron as a full forward so Reef can play as a third tall. Give us another lead up option since we’re desperate for those. He can also pressure unlike AJ so we’re not to slow when all three talls are up forward.

WHE and Markov out might be harsh but I think Noble and Crisp provide better offensive run whilst also giving us an extra midfield rotation for Finn.

Sidebottom can be the scapegoate managed veteran this week.

Out: Johnson
In: Frampton

Frampton to defense and Howe forward.

Pendles is looking cooked. We should seriously consider making him the sub next week.

WHE, Lipinski, Crisp and Quaynor are lucky they have no-one competing for their spot.
What? I thought he was one of the few players who could hold his head high after the game.

Out: AJ, WHE, Dean, Mcreery,
In: Mciness, Macrae, Frampton, Titch
Noble sub

Team needs a shake up and feels out of balance. We need more mids in. Been smashed in the mid 2 weeks in a row and I reckon we're 1 small forward too many

That was a tough watch.

Clearly a lot of work to do, however I think it's our foot skills that have killed us. I am not sure what the stats say but Moore specifically had several howlers that resulted in opposition goals.

I am not blaming AJ as the supply was just not there, but he simply does not have any confidence at the moment. He needs to play VFL and find confidence in his hands again before being considered for the AFL side. I would like to see Reef given a chance, but I would also consider DeGoey spending more time forward too. This frees up the time for Mitchell/Finn.

Dean was improved, but just doesn't quite look up to the standard yet. Is the upside with him worthy of playing over Frampton right now? Frampton would be a more reliable option but I understand the thinking of playing Dean and letting him have a run at it. I think I keep Dean for this week against the Saints but I wouldn't be opposed to swapping him with Frampton.

IN: T.Mitchell, R.McInnes
OUT: A.Johnson, O.Markov

B: B.Maynard - C.Dean - J.Howe
HB: I.Quaynor - D.Moore - J.Crisp
C: S.Sidebottom - S.Pendlebury - J.Daicos
HF: L.Schulz - B.Mihocek - B.Hill
F: J.DeGoey - R.McInnes - J.Elliott
R: D.Cameron - T.Mitchell - N.Daicos
I: W.Hoskin-Elliott - M.Cox - F.Macrae - P.Lipinski
S: B.McCreery
Dean was trash, Heeny rag dolled him in the square and that was after McDonald tore him a new one, he was also non existent in the air.
For me AJ comes out, Dean out, Markov out.
In Frampton, McInnes, Noble.

Start with
Out Dean, Johnson, Markov
In Frampton, Reef, Noble

WHE just hangs on.

Need some connection going forward to much stop start like someone said early teams have figured us out and no doubt Adams would have given some useful info. Need to win next week I did pick us to be 2~3 after the bye so still hoping we get there
