I don't see how a league that plays probably 60%+ of its games under floodlighting powered by brown coal can pass itself off as being 'green'.

That was my first thought. Perhaps they should have made all 8 games day matches, and minimise the travel with Vic teams playing each other, the WA and SA teams play each other and Brisbane play Sydney at Nimbin. Bussing it there in solar powered buses.

Oh, don't you understand? The AFL can buy carbon offsets, which will install flouroscent lightglobes in the Amazon rainforest or somesuch, and that makes it all OK! :p

Even the Clipsal 500 is "carbon neutral".

FFS I'm waiting for the day when a major sport says "stuff off, we're not going to play silly games and pretend we're all environmentally friendly. We are a sport. We burn fuel for lighting, transport, and heating overpriced pies. Deal with it."

Nothing but PR crap.

yea i know, also speaking of carlton, looking at the paper a few days ago it appears carlton rushed to invite that poor bash victim to one of their training sessions in front of media, which reeked to me of trying too hard to gain PR.

But if another club invited the poor guy along, that would be fine?

I agree, we are such black hearted assholes

It's the round where we celebrate the contributions of people named Green.

That was brought up as an problem a year ago when WA had the power crisis caused by the gas explosion - the AFL offered to move a Subiaco night game to the day. Turned out according to Western Power a footy game at night actually resulted in less overall energy use, as all the spectators that are at the footy would use a lot more energy at home (or doing other things) if they weren't at the footy.

So the footy stayed at night.

Correct. Wht's it all got to do with footy?

Agree the fans should have a let's boycott the leftie, tree huging, climate change myth pushing AFL round. How the AFL has managed to become an arm of the Labor party up there with the Age and ABC is sickening. Is the board of the AFL made up of school teachers and unionists?
