Mal Michaels happy to Tweet about it maybe he'll have a go?
Mal Michael couldn't stick it out in '06, how's he going to stick it out these days.

Honestly though, in the premiership era that defence looked a million dollars because of our fab 4 midfielders who hardly ever lost any midfield battle and that really explains our current issues with the top teams.
the defence was pretty good as well in that era

The one thing I did notice is our defensive talls punch more then mark recently.
Pickett etc said thanks for that.

The loss looked on the cards from the warm up. 3 high pressure games in 12 days. At the warm up the forwards were all fumbly, dropping marks, missing passes, running past the ball etc. The energy during the warm up was visibly lower for the Lions compared to the Demons. Then the Demons scored immediately from the first bounce and I knew we were in trouble. Our only hope was if the Demons forward line would miss their opportunities like they did against Freo. That was quickly dashed when they were kicking bananas from 40m out and both Cameron and Hipwood were failing to make the distance from 45m out on a slight angle. The score was uglier than what it should have been but the Demons were definitaley at least a 4 goal better team and weren't troubled by us at all.

Im hoping a 2 week break will let the team re-focus, get over small niggles and reset like how the Dogs managed to reset and get to the GF last year. The only consistently hyperdominant team since the Bye has been Geelong. Every other team has had games where they have been down and got rolled. I think if the Cats and Demons end up eliminating themselves somehow, we would have a good chance against the remainder. Any given Sunday as they say in the NFL.

Fagan and Zorko aren’t the men to take us forward best thing would be for both to go and a reset for next year . Fagan is borderline delusional now and Zorko is just a little pis$ ant
You and others are like vultures circling a wounded animal...just poor form... as simple and as plain as that. I need a break from this forum.

What happened to them Mighty Lions? Did everyone have the flu?

Some of the reaction has been over the top, but the manner of the capitulation justifies a lot of the chat that has been going on post the game IMO.

This is a forum specifically for that purpose.

Our back six isn't the issue. The ball comes in so quick and opposition get numbers forward so quickly while the middle and front sixes can't attempt a tackle without losing their feet and taking themselves out of the contest or just witches hat. When the ball is able to come in with so little pressure on it and only one side is getting the additional numbers to the drop there isn't a lot any defence can do.

Also, what do our half forward flankers even do? Basically just drag extra defenders to neutralise our wings and slow the game down. They don't offer additional ball winning and they don't even seagull and get forward with any loose balls.

Harris does seem to have had an attitude change over the last two years - he was always a serious young man it must be difficult babysitting man-children older than you. He tried to fill the gap when we needed a new high level pointer post Hodgy but he just seemed stroppy and demonstrative. Have they added a pointing test into the combine? Because we are definitely missing an elite traffic controller. I almost think Harro needs to be rejuvenated as a forward to take the weight of the world off his shoulders.

The idea of Harris as a forward is something I’ve gone back to and I reckon it’s a better option than many will give it credit for.

Covers McStay, and then we can have Payne/Adams/Gardiner as our back 3, or if Gardiner leaves we can go after a defender

I get to a live game with a soccer mad mate every year or so and this time around it was last night.

After the second play of the night he turned to me and said "Is there something wrong with your guys or did they decide they were better off if they lost?"

Later he asked me "How come the demons seem to know exactly where their team mates are and the Lions seem to have no idea"

I would have loved to be able to defend the Lions against either statement...

One of the more perplexing things last week was Fages talking up Gardiner and why we would give him another contract.

Maybe he needs to get out of the dug out and up higher where he can see the game properly.

I agree Dizz has been a great warrior and suffered more than most injury wise but I don't see that he's offered anything this year that wouldn't warrant the closest DD before giving him another contract.

To make a comment like is alleged you must be out of control emotionally on the field IMO.

I have played a lot of competitive sport, admittedly not at this level but it never even crossed my mind to sledge someone with a personal attack.

To make a sledge like that you wouldn't need to be, but it could be a sign that you're a sociopath

Lol yeah. I work with someone who ran in circles which crossed over with May while he was at GC - genuinely terrible human being apparently.

What about him gave off that idea I wonder? Was it when he punched on with his own teammates at two separate clubs? Or was it when he was the captain of Gold Coast and they actively pushed him out of the club because he was that much of a ****head?

I think what disappointed me most was that we gave up. There was still a whole quarter or a quarter and a half and we gave up, little to no celebration of goals, no pumping up of others when something good happened, walking around with no energy. They didn't fight to the end. Yes the game was gone (In saying that Melbourne was absolutly smashing Collingwood several weeks ago and ended up beating Melbourne), but the leader failed a big test that night. Anyone know who our team leaders are?: Zorko, Neale, Berry? McCluggage? Lester?

If Gardiner can rediscover his form (which may be helped if he stays injury free in the off season) then we should absolutely re sign him. A lot of people seem to forget just how good he was in 2019-2020, a massive part of why Andrews was such a star was because Gardiner was good enough to pick up the slack whenever Andrews was floating.

Gardiner looked like a 🐰 In headlights on more than one occasion…to me that says lack of confidence in yourself and your teammates.

We were blessed with the three peat but putting it down to one area over the other sells the team short.

The mids were elite, yes the Fab 4 were sensational but we had the best finals ruck in the comp who arguably should have won a Norm Smith. The defence was elite, the two key backs rarely got pantsed and the rest of the backline was ruthless. And up forward we had two big gorillas 🦍 who hit every contest and made any opponents working in the F50 think twice.

I remember going to the Gabbatoir in ‘01 on a Friday night and sitting behind the goals. The work Lynch did off the ball was incredible. I understand Joe Daniher is not the same player but FFS he could learn a little from Lynch.

Melbourne’s dominance of us comes from the dominance of their key backs because our two just don’t make them accountable or threaten them. I am not sure Joe Daniher as a key is going to get us to the pointy end.
