Life's no fun without struggle, adversity and challenges.

If we didn't have those, we'd all be Hawks supporters.

I'm hating having to be contrite and respectful to other teams supporters. The Saints have humbled us all with their performance, my greatest football era was highlighted by hearing people say they hated the Saints for the first time around 2010. We were everyone's favourite second team for years because we were benign and wouldn't win. I can't wait to be an insufferable flog again. My Melbourne mates are already getting there and they haven't won anything. ****ing Richmond mates are as insufferably painful as any fans ever. You'd think they'd won the game off their own boot.

Only the 1.. But that was also at ethihad and the biggest margin of them all

Well seriously, 3 of the last 5 years we were holding up the base of the ladder, so I'm not sure you could take an awful lot out of those results.

The last two years, however, a different story. If we lose this time it better not be a blowout.

Savage, Webster, Robbo can’t be expected to play 100% game time, they need rotations just like everyone else. Which is why we had to end up playing Clark off a back flank in both games.

I have no problem at all with Savage and Robbo spending a bit of time in the wing. Most of our midfield can rest forward but none of them you’d expect to see coming off half back. I actually think our balance was a fair way out round one and two.

so there's coffields spot

but what about white?

feels like one HBFer too many

I actually don’t mind it.

Let’s both he and Hickey spend a full game in the ruck instead of trying to turn Pierce into a CHB or FF just so we can fit them in.

Not that I have a lot of hope for Pierce these days.

with birdman here, i like the idea of splitting the player group across two clubs. means we have room on potentially getting some of the next gen academy players into either side. plus we can get seasoned players as needed to make up numbers

genuine ruck would get 100% game time in his position etc.

Sharpen up your mockery for Sunday morning then.
My shoulders are broad and can carry that heavy load.
(Apologies to MLK).

I too have Richmond buddies who are still doing victory laps.
Painful.
(One of them actually did run a victory lap of the MCG in 1967. As a tacker. He has that photo, from the Sun, blown up and framed. He also has a digital version. Total pain in the arse).
Anyways.
I would so love to repay the favour......

Rowan Marshall is a ruckman - he may not be as physically mature as most - but he’s been plying his trade and doing a very good job of it, in the ruck since very early in his junior days. Back him in he knows he’s doing.

its ok sunny rest assured we will win the next 10 flags in a row

Recontracting Minch, Wright and Pierce then losing Holmes who was probably our best actual tap ruckman and NOK who never really got a go and before that Eli Templeton who showed more than some of the retained guys was weird. You get the feeling we have different agendas in the club with no one really running a clear policy.
Pretty sweeping statement. 17 other clubs don't want Templeton and Holmes on their list, so I don't think you can validate any complaint on the basis that we de-listed either. Same goes for NOK. I think all 3 decisions were for the better

I agree entirely that the collective contract arrangements for Minch, Wright and Pierce have not worked in the clubs favour, so happy for you to criticise those decisions.

Yeah me too. Glimmers of hope and blind faith is all we got to sustain us.

Anyone not going because we will lose or to punish the club, get along anyway and support the boys.

If we lose, you can jump on here and say I told you so.

If we win, you'll never forgive yourself for missing out.
The best wins are the ones no one tips.

Why do we assume Coff is a HBF, just because Richo started him there during Jlt probably played MF all his junior career. I couldn’t see Bont or Cripps playing hbf let him loose see what his got.
This. If we count Coffield as another back flanker then the team balance has changed significantly from the first two rounds. If we count him as a midfielder then it resembles previous squads.

I can't figure out whether I'm more excited to watch Coffield or Marshall. And if Marshall started tapping it to Coffield on the burst in the middle I'll be

Carn the Saints!

Football is all about sliding doors, no one generally picks up dead wood from a club that isn't winning finals. I think we can safely say that some of the players cut loose showed more than some still on the list due to contracts being offered that were longer than necessary. I reckon Holmes wold have been handier than Wright right now. NOK was showing more than plenty at Sandringham. Seeing the club has something against Hickey where he wouldn't get selected to carry the players boots, you'd think that Holmes would make more sense. They should have delisted Hickey and let him go somewhere that wanted him and paid out Pierce. We don't seem to have a lot of process in place.I even think Lee was mishandled, he got cut when he finally started to show something after he got his shoulders fixed. No point in going back though, we just need to fix what we are doing so it doesn't happen again.

With the new ins this week, am looking forward to seeing this game. Wait a minute! am camping out bush with limited access, so odds of seeing it are pretty bloody slim. Hopefully when I reach civilisation again, I can read how we won. ;)

There won't be a civilisation after Saturday night.

I tell you what if they lose by 100 points or more you might not need a demolition team to pull down the grandstand at Moorabbin. If we win well that's probably when civilisation ends. You can almost bank that the day we finally start to come good ****ing armageddon will hit us.

Pffft Hawks supporters .
7 Grand Finals in a row. (Won most of em) Then had a couple of lean seasons and nearly merged with the Dees cos the supporters dropped off quicker than Paris Hiltons nickers.
Single Ply toilet paper in a Curry restaurant puts up more resistance than Hawks supporters .

Any chance our cheer squad can actually make some noise or did the saints hire some mannequins from the Myer bargain basement.
It's depressing comparing how amazing the crowds are at soccer games in Europe to what we have at St Kilda games. A loud, passionate supporter base can have a genuine influence on the performance of the opposition, as well as spurring the home team on. It's really like having an extra player on the field.

We'd all remember the "COOOOOLLINGWOOOOOD" chant from their supporters in 2010, and I have no doubt it would have had an effect on players. Obviously we're no Collingwood, but we should be able to make some bloody noise at Etihad, you can hear a pin drop in there for a large portion of the game.
