The outs may give us a chance to trial some structural changes - expectations of a win will be low.

I’d add seamus and serong to backline and move weddle and Amon out.

Finn to tag Daicos, likely as a defensive forward. Butler and Ramsden to come in. I’d chuck weddle forward as a roaming 3rd tall - he’s a tricky match up. We’d then have too many hff - croc to sub (better suited to have an impact than Morrison)

Hardwick Frost Sicily
Seamus Scrimshaw Impey
Amon Nash Ward
Ginnivan Chol Finn
Weddle Ramsden Butler
Meek Worpel Jai
I: HH Serong Moore Massimo Sub: Croc

Likely won’t happen but I reckon that looks like a far better balanced side (but very unproven). Defence has more guys who can defend. Forward line looks a lot more mobile - a lot of running power (all of Finn, weddle, ramsden, butler will be hard to catch on transition) and more defensive intent.

This, still think it's too early for ramsden to be called up, gunston way more likely. He will bring needed experience we lost with bruest out.
He’s already been on the cusp of selection last week.

How will McCrae plan for a forward line that nobody has seen working together.

It aint all doom and gloom.

It's exciting and will surprise.

Rama and Chol will be a huge handful.

Nothing predictable about this forward line.

Add Ginni and grab the popcorn !

We can't afford to have our single tall forward leave the F50 this week. Chol should not be called upon to ruck this week and hence I would be goign with two rucks as the Pies are also a 2 ruck team.

Ramsden isnt doing enough as yet at VFL level to warrant selection. The pies will just zone off him and we will get little return. Max is still not developed enough for ruck duties in the AFL and he is likley to get pantsed if we chose him with second ruck duties in mind. Our midfielders are struggling enough as it is.

OUT

L Breust (inj)
N Watson (inj)
M Lewis (inj)
H Hustwaite or H Morrison (omit)

IN

S Mitchell
F Maginness
N Reeves
S Butler

Ramsden will offer more forward than either Meek or Reeves. Especially the latter as he's much more mobile and is stronger overhead.

He may be green, but we will likely be bringing in someone to spend the game playing forward, and neither Meek or Reeves can do that.

Go back and listen to Hale after the intra club match. He said in the presser that if we play two rucks, one of them has to have forward craft. Rama is the one who has it.

That is the theory. The practice is quite different on exposed form as Max isn't a reliable forward in the VFL (how many times has he kicked 4 to date in te VFL) let alone the AFL. I am not suggesting the two rucks are going to do much in the forward line either.

But the two rucks will definetely be a lot more beneficial than Max will be in the ruck

Yeah, I'm aware of those comments. As I said neither Meek or Reeves have shown they can do that - though Chol and Ramsden can.

I would suspect it's simply a straight swap of Lewis for Ramsden, with Chol playing relief ruck again.

Also, same can be said about Reeves and Meek. They aren't goal kickers or strong in the air. Ramsden has a good leap for a big man and can take marks.

'Sticks' Ryan would be handy right now 😁

Gave us some serious X factor last time we met and flogged the Pies.

Was gutted we lost him in the Gunston trade.

Anyway, maybe Rama comes in after all to play a similar role.

He's not even fit enough to play for the Lions VFL side right now.

I hope I am wrong if they do go with Ramsden, but if he is our only big in the forward line when Chol rucks, we are likely to see a few more of those super highway transition goals the other way.

It is a worry

How many times has Reeves kicked 4 in the AFL/VFL?

Looks like Reeves career ended when the ruck rules changed.

Give Rama a go - It will stop Chol from getting burned out. He can compete when Cox is in the Ruck.

Have Weddle move to the forward line, that would provide a three pronged attack of Gunston, Chol and Weddle.
Frost, Sicily and Scrimshaw gives enough height in the backline to combat Collingwood.
Meek to ruck all day, with short respites from Chol when needed.

AFAIK, the rules committee sit down with AFL counsel (which includes, or included Chris Scott and Patrick Dangerfield as coach, and player representatives respectively). I guess Geelong didn't see any need to protect TALL ruckmen?

The 3x changes is interesting.

Ramma & Butler have to be the certainties.

Will be very disappointed if we go to Gunners. The VFL review indicated he can provide a fair bit of value at the level mentoring Calsher Dear in game.

After only playing half a game of vfl footy on return, JOS isn't ready to come up yet, but did show that he can impact as a sub, so i look fwd to seeing that at some point this season.

I wanna see Seamus back in the team asap, but surely Hardwick is needed back on Elliott who kicked 4 last week, so not sure how the team balance works. Finn played well so probably gets the nod as a defensive fwd on Daicos.

Just came here to post similar. I like the idea of Hardwick playing up forward and effectively replacing Breust, but I would expect him to blanket Elliott who looked dangerous when I caught some of the Pies game last week.
