I'm in the same boat.
If you want mead it's probably the last week. But I'm not sure on his JS.

Mcinnes cheaper but probably similar JS issues.

The big problem is we can't fit all mid rooks in right now.
Until we hit round 6 and we get some DPPs added we'll have a traffic jam on our hands.

Atm I'm ward and macdonald on bench. So I've go 1 free spot.
So whoever I take now it's maybe the last mid for 2 weeks.

Or I need to play someone like ward over xerri / curnow or Martin in order to squeeze 1 more in.

Edit: I'm leaning toward McInnes this week for that small bit of extra coin.
Sounds like we're in the exact same boat.. also have Ward and MacDonald on the bench.

Maybe that small 30k saving on McIness will have to be the tie breaker between him and Mead as it's pretty 50/50 otherwise.

Saw someone mention this in the SuperCoach board, but I reckon Pete Ladhams might be very solid POD potential. Extended time in the team with Hickey out for close to two months. Priced at $610k which is a bit high, but could be a good pick if he scores well

Yes and Pies are blooding their youth whereas Port should still be going for a premiership despite the poor start.

Mead could be 1 bad away from being dropped for months. He's also already been a sub once.

McInnes probably has more lives than that.

If he was cheaper maybe. No guarantee he's making much coin at that price and locks you into another trade to get him out in 6 weeks either way. Huge no for me.

Pies just about look more likely to challenge for a flag than Port at the minute (which is more of an indictment on Port than anything else). But agreed

Like many others I’m going shopping for a premium defender this week. Settled on either Docherty, Dawson or Sinclair.

Docherty - safest, scoring well, awesome story and would feel good barracking for him in your team every week, but will he justify paying $100k more than the other two?

Dawson - well priced, most upside and the Crows always seem to look for him. BUT he’s damaging, and literally the only player for the Crows you would need to worry about shutting down. Surely he has attention coming his way?

Sinclair - the cheapest, has low ownership, has a great midfield role and will never get tagged. Probably has a lower ceiling than the other two but should reliably average in the 90s from here if he keeps that high CBA midfield role for at least the time being… will he?

Kind of leaning towards Sinclair right now to he honest - especially with a nice couple of games coming up against the Hawks and Suns… would love to know people’s thoughts though.

How many round 12 bye players you rocking? Most teams I'm looking at are maxed out there with 8-10 so bringing more in (Doch, Sinclair) might tip you over if you're in that range. Dawson has the prized round 13 bye which we're all much lower on.

If that's not a factor I'd spend the extra 100k and lock in Doch no question.

I'm hoping hayes gets dropped... because i need to cull one of my rookies to bring in bowey for mccartin

Yeah good call, I’d just started looking at the byes as a potential way to split them and you’re dead right, Dawson’s round 13 is extremely handy and settles the issue. I’ve got round 12 premos coming out my ears; bringing in another one would be a mistake. Dawson it is.

Not sure it’s a major issue though
Rowell JHF Ward Xerri etc will all be culled before then or in r12.
Probably not a huge lot of keepers for most, though keeping an eye out is a good call.

As a Sinclair owner in draft, I am obviously loving his current output.

However, he did only move to the midfield from half back at half time in round 1, and was on 20-something at the time.

I have concerns that he retains his role when Clark and Jones are fit and available for selection again. I'd be going one of the other two.

All those ones to be culled are rounds 13 & 14 though. Everyone has most or all of Whit, Short, Hew, Steele, Cripps, Cogs, Butters with the round 12 bye plus one or two more which is getting dicey already.

I usually don't look at bye structure this early but I'm wary this year as it's pretty lopsided for that first one. Plenty of trades left between now and then but with the way things are I'd recommend look into it soon just to make sure you're not bringing in too many.

McCartin to Blakey
or
Skinner to Bowey

The latter means that McCartin becomes D7, but that move has to be done before the game tomorrow.

Skinner to Bowey if it's out of those two options imo.

McCartin could be a useful bench reserve and I'm not convinced that Blakey is a keeper (great midprice pick though!) so you might as well grab the bloke who's cheaper, should score decent (70-80) and still has a reasonable amount of cash to make. Gets rid of Skinner too who is dead weight.

Dawson was tagged by Drew last weekend according to DTLive, at least when I checked in the third quarter. I’d just brought him in for L Jones, so was keeping an eye on his score.

54 at half time.
7 point third quarter, when I checked and noticed the tag symbol
39 point last quarter, including the winning goal after the siren from a free kick paid to someone else.

I love him as a player, which is one of the reasons I picked him, but as you say he can be damaging so is likely to cop attention.

When you think about it

Is Bowey just as good a mid priced as Preuss? Bowey looking like he can put up an 80 odd average which might be the same as a Preuss, not to mention it gets McCartin off field. Bowey a big more Pulau initially but a similar BE

So at the end of the day post trades I’m left with 1 of these options

Cripps, Preuss, McCartin
V
Grundy, Bowey, JHF?

Yeah it was that third quarter that had me a bit spooked. With such an outside-heavy game he’s not going to be a hard man to stop.

just on the Bowey Vs Blakey discussion

Swans have a dream run coming up - North, weagles, hawks. Blakey "should" outscore here.
similar averages, with blakey the better ceiling
Bowey should net you more cash but it would be less than 100k difference at the end of 3 rounds (lower BE, lower starting cost)

Also noticed that. The good thing about Dawson is that he has quite a bit of position flexibility. We moved him to HB, and Hinge to the wing.

When he was no longer tagged, he went back to the wing.

All 3 of my Melb/Port players are playing so still no need for me to even think about a trade until Friday night :thumbsu:

Wish I was in that boat, already 3 rookies down and haven’t even hit the first game with Smith, Skinner and Durdin out (all on bench) so have to move trades tonight.

Rookie fix up this week as we start to get into the interesting part of the season now!

It's tough to find 2 trades to do when all but 5 of my players have a BE that's easily achievable.

And the 5 that don't are premos I'm more than happy to hold.

Injuries and droppings about the only moves I can make atm..
My team is full of droppings..............

I think I'll wait on Preuss this week, he's up against Darcy and Meek and could quite easily throw up a poor score and the only player that I could use to get him is Rachele who is a gun, is playing, has great JS.

The other trade was Witts > Sicily but Witts could be up against a Pittonetless Blues and could score well. I have Grundy (who's up against NicNat) he might spud it, which would make a trade of Grundy > Pruess and Hinge > Docherty a bit more palatable next week.

Trades this week then are Owens > McInnes and Rich > Dawson.

Currently rolling with Rioli and NOD at D5/6. Also have the JDG suspension to deal with and looking to bring in Preuss for Marshall. I also don’t have cripps.

Do I take the following approach:

If nod is named, trade JDG to Cripps (NOD remains at D6, have cash itb to get short next week)

If NOD isn’t named, trade Rachele to Dawson and hold JDG for a week. 20k off getting in short instead of Dawson, however could get there if I trade JDG instead of Rachele (just not sure this is worth it)
