EFFORT was the one consistent feature of 2023. One of the few seasons that you knew the team would show up and die trying for a 4Q performance.

All of that is gone and we're back to seesawing, maniac performances of the Richo era. Grim!

I’m a little nervous the giants have cleared both their players but we have heard nothing on Max.

I heard Kelli Underwood mention something about an ACL, she is usually wrong about most things though so hopefully she is wrong again.

Think it’s easy to point the finger at King. The guy plays with so much expectation, anything less than a 3 goal game is disappointing. The Giants have arguably the best team defence in the competition, I don’t see many bags getting kicked against them this year. He’s 23 years old, far from the finished product, games like today happen to the best of them.

For 3 and a half quarters today I don't care if you were Tony Lockett.

You were not going to have a good day as St.Kilda tall forward that's how bad our entries were.

Before the game I would have been happy with a 1 point loss. They are a quality side. To play the crap for most of the game with the outs we have and almost steal it, I'm not unhappy. Think there is a lot of upside in this group. Garcia is a player, as is Wilson. In reality we are a couple of players (Wood and one of crouch, Clark or dow) away from being able to turn these close losses around. I rate Phillipou but he isn't going to win us games at this stage of his career. Marshall, Steele and Hill take a bow, phenomenal.

No doubt GWS switched off. Can't do that against any team. Pressure goes off 5% and see the results 6 goals on the bounce.

I think how we played once Ming went off shows that he and Caminiti cannot play in the same forward line. Garcia straight into the 22 next week.

In a sense, they can so long as Caminiti is the one deep, the "problem" is that we have Membrey and Sharman also there, so it gets crowded since Membrey is a stop and prop vertical jumper and Sharman is a floating type, so you just can't carry all of them and expect a free forward 50 AND pressure instances. As it just won't happen.

Great courage to never give up. Would have been amazing to pinch it.

Wtf is with Butler? Nowhere near it and has to go to Sandy next week.

Skills cost us the game. Handballs to feet, missed shots at goal, missed ten metre kicks.

They are the flag favourites and we made them look stupid for a quarter so if we can use the motivation of it it could be a turning point for the season.

Garcia, what a debut. Loved Wilson too.

Of the seniors Marshall Hill and Steele were immense.

It feels like a missed opportunity.

What could have been, but unfortunately I think that is going to the tale of our year. I had completely written us off but the team showed they care. They gave themselves a chance at the death, but when you make as many errors as we did you don't win many games. The fact in the end we had 6 more inside 50's than them shows how dysfunctional our forward line remains.

Marshall, Hill, Steele and Sinclair nearly dragged us across the line, but why does it take 110 minutes of footy to start playing our game?

I hope King's injury is not too serious, but I honestly believe our F50 functions better without him. Its harsh but IMO King is not going to take us to the promised land, he is too flaky with his impact on games. We really need to develop a winning forward 50 line up without relying on Max. If Max is fit and playing well, great, but otherwise we need to move away from developing our forward line around him, he is simply too unreliable. Unless injury forces their hand, the coaches will need to alter their mindset for this to happen perhaps they will be right.

They lost Taylor and then Coniglio and then all of a sudden the game shifted. Gees the amount of injuries and suspensions we have had this year is frustrating and at the end of the year I believe will prove really costly. Just imagine if we had a full list available today like GWS before the game, the outcome would be very different.

We have found our new energy bunny Garcia, who looked completely at home in the minutes he played. Wilson is going to be our next game winner. He really comes into his own when those around him are cooked.

Well done to RTB for throwing Battle into the middle late in the game, but why does he always wait so long to make these moves? The worry is how many players had seriously poor games today Sharman, Butler, King, Ross and Phillipou all had shockers. We can't replace all of them in the quick turn around, so its going to be tough to get the group up again in that time.

Kudos to the club for not giving up - but they really let themselves down today!

The amount of missed handballs was embarrassing. If you want to play a running game then you’d think that’d be a non negotiable for players
This is it.
Talking about missed goals sure - they missed goals too, Green was offline
How many times we handball behind someone!
Can’t win playing unskilled football for 10 minutes

The injury to Cogs took the wind out of their sails. It all turned at that point. And would have been disheartening losing Taylor early and then Cogs. We took advantage but even then it was ugly as ****.
