Back from the game... the one thing that stood out for me live was how much we butchered our last kick inside fifty... rarely kicked it to a forward's advantage... if we can fix that we will be a different side. It's hard for the marking forwards and hard if the midfield is under pressure and we weren't very good at either part, but we need to fix the delivery first. Our forwards can mark if they have some decent delivery and it was pretty rare tonight, at least that's how it looked at the ground. Good to see Beams back, Berry works very hard, Robbo (20 contested possessions, Bundy and Rayner (10 each), plus the backline, obviously. Good to see the reserves have a massive win... we have plenty of players in form to consider for next week.

On another note, the volume of the sound system at Spotless is excruciating... you have to shout to the person next you to be heard. It's a disgrace... have they not heard of silence... isn't the football enough... are we all becoming Americans... sure, have announcements and music if you have to, but there's no need to have them one decibel below the level of distortion. Certainly will make me think twice about retuning to that arena of aural torture.

It must be instruction but I cant for the life of me figure it out. I understand the deep kick to ensure boundary line safety etc, but we repeatedly take this ugly long kick, rarely to advantage, that is so deep that if bought to ground its in a terrible spot. If we do occasionally hit up a lead, its never to a player in front of their opponent. Its just so tough. But its just not working at all.

think it was indentified as a strength last year so teams are defending us this way too. Dees had 1 or 2 extras the whole game. I think opposition coaches know we are not taking a contested mark and the only way we will win is if we get overlap run happening, so they are just clogging up our 50.

It's a combination of poor delivery and our forwards not being able to get open space and separation. And the latter comes down to a number of things. Last night could tell that they were making an effort not to bomb it in but when we are S-L-O-W going in and they have all of their players parked inside 50 then there aren't too many options.

Zorko? Ok he is copping a tag. Is the tagger doing everything completely within the rules? I don't know as have not seen enough one on one vision of zorks and his tagger. How do we solve the issue. Do we send him forward more and if the taggers are doing things not completely all above board he may have a chance of scoring more frees? I know in previous years umpires were told to be more aware of taggers when throw ups or boundary throw ins were happening. The taggers had to be looking look like they were looking at the ball and not just being in the chest of his opponent face on with no interest in getting the footy. Don't know if this is happening around the packs or not. If he is blocked in the forward line attempting to get footy he may have a better chance og getting a free. Or does it just come down to Zorko's lack of work rate.?

He was hardly tagged yestetday. He needs to adjust his attitude and find confidence again. If you watch him around the stoppage he is almost sulking a lot of the time with his body language. Berry and Clugg are constantly at and around the ball, he just doesent work as hard ATM. Saw him dump his opponent after the kick 3 times last night too, lucky he didnt give away down field free again.

Zorko's head drops too quickly when things don't go his way, disappointing from a club leader. We all go through bad spells and our head drops, hopefully Hodge and Fagan will be in his head, it can turn around quickly, one piece of play can do it, just needs a shot in the arm of confidence. I'd keep him in the forward line for a week or 2 and maybe give Charlie Cameron/Christensen more midfield time to compensate.

I would turn it around '180' next week & have Dayne follow Pendlebury or Treloar. He can do the basics well when he puts his mind to it, tackle, contest, etc let the opposition lead him to the ball. We are getting nothing out of him now, but if he can shut down an opponents prime mover that is a start. Do the job & he starts feeling as though he is contributing & feel better about himself.

The other bonus is that we have limited accountability in the midfield. There is a lesson for others within that area when they see a leader running hard to become accountable. It will set a benchmark for others to follow.

It’s the skill errors which are frustrating me. Not to mention the terrible delivery into the forward line and goal kicking.

These things can be fixed but it is frustrating that we are so poor at the basic fundamentals of the game.

A win against colonwood please!!

I wonder if Zorko is regretting not shooting off to a club like Sydney or something? Surely he had a few offers and knocked them back thinking he was doing the right thing and now he realises maybe he wont see much more than what he has since hes been with us?

I think this is exactly the sort of thing that could shake him up and get him firing. He has involvement in the game but a different focus. He could hound Treloar to 15 touches if he made it his mission and Collingwood love it when Treloar gets first touch on turnovers so it damages their flow on transition.

If Zorko wore him like a glove I think he would also start collecting his own possessions in the process. I would be pretty happy with Treloar and Zorko getting 15 touches each. They would get less than usual from Treloar and we would get more than usual (at least this season) from Zorko.

Ryan lester had another great 8 possession game while the likes of Ben Keayes had 29 and a goal in the twos, we are wasting time playing these guys who simply are not our future.

Keays also had 9 tackles - quite impressive stats.

Zorko needs to go back to the Neafl and get his hands on the pill again.

Rockliff gone he’s been massively found out.

He’s actually been a liability for 6 weeks now. Runs on the board don’t mean squat for 6 weeks. He needs a spell, we have guys banging down the door in the reserves. They need to be rewarded and Zorko needs to go back and work out how to get the football again. Rack up 50 touches and kick 10 goals. Get the confidence back again.

Lester also has to go. Very disappointing this season. Bastinac you’d imagine is a shoe in next week. No disrespect to Big O I like what I see. But I think our forwardline functions better when it’s more mobile. Those 3 bigs were chewing up each other’s space.

I think Keays has been written off early by some here but he had a lot of work to do developmentally when he was drafted. He was still pretty raw for the first couple of seasons and he was a bit if an instinctive player without a whole lot of finesse or tactical thinking at his disposal. The couple of NEAFL games I have seen of him this year he looks to be working on this aspect of his game. He seems to be about five kilos off AFL size to really mix it in the midfield or as a small forward with his type of game but hopefully that comes in the next year or so. I think the potential is still unrealised but it is there.

A few of the Qld boys are the same - Allison, Ballenden, Hipwood etc. They get drafted with talent but not all of the subtleties to their game and it gets shown up at AFL level and takes a while to develop. Zorko was probably the same for his first few seasons.

The problem is Fagan doesn't choose the best 22 players and develop a game plan around them. He has a game plan and picks the 22 players who can best follow it , hence why Lester gets a game and others don't.

This game plan will on most occasions (bar Richmond) will minimise losses with tactics like using Rich as a loose man but will never produce wins (bar teams like Port having a shocker.

You can tell players like Zorko and Hipwood are highly frustrated and say what you like about Bewick he should not been dropped after the standard he played in his couple of games. Bell and Bastinac only get one game, Keays, Frost , Paparone, Walker , Mayes and Dawson all on the outer ????

My main issue is that Keays isn't clean with the ball and fumbles the ball. He's also almost Lester slow eventhough those legs and arms are pumping hard.

Yep...It's all about developing.

Bit worried bout this game plan ATM , Keayes 100% should be getting a game ahead of lester and Bastinac and bell so it frustrates me that he's not being given his opportunity

I get the impression that he has been pencilled him to appear as the season progresses... i.e giving games in block sections avoiding injury..While resting another similar style player.

I think by the end of the season our team will look somewhat different to what it looks now. When Payne comes back from injury and gets some games under his belt in neafl I think he'll play seniors in the last quarter of the season.

This season is gone already, I would be thinking our team will open up and opportunities will arise for the players of the future. And in reality that should be happening now and has already for a couple of players.

GWS didn't even try. They played with us, Himmlebeg and Tomlinson was used as their main hit ups while Patton and Cameron spent about 15% in the forward line.

Every time they broke away from our attack they just steamed past everyone, we just jogged. Zero effort. Couple of the kids are going alright but majority of the squad is useless.

Hated Nick Robertson's performance as well today. That brain snap of punching and continuously pushing Coniglio off balance when he was struggling with that big **** off lump on his shin. Not on

You lost me at 'zero effort'. One thing that is fir sure is this team is invested and trying, just not there yet.

Low confidence and playing whilst second guessing what you are meant to be doing (aka learning) as opposed to playing on instinct (being experienced) often looks reactive, and like 'lack of effort'.. but it isnt. These guys are giving it all.

Would love him to prove me wrong but I really would be surprised if Keays makes it at AFL level. I think he'll be one of those players who dominates the midfield at NEAFL but doesn't translate to AFL. He's genuinely got the same turning circle and as slow as Lester, he's so left sided its ridiculous (same with Barrett too). The game is moving towards quicker players and unless you have elite skills which Keays doesn't I'm not sure theres a spot in the team.
