We should just cop it and wear our clash jumper this week and design a red ANZAC jumper for away games in the future. The other option would be to ask Collingwood to always wear a white ANZAC jumper for the sake of "traditional matchups", like Eddie said they would for Carlton games.

Either way, if the issue is getting media attention, the AFL might finally get serious about clash jumpers with the big 4.

In fairness to Collingwood, we seem to be the only one consistently wearing the white clash strip in away games against all Big 4 opponents. Essendon and Richmond can conveniently design their Sir Doug Nicholls Round jumpers to avoid a clash, not sure why it couldn't have been done for this ANZAC Round.

Tbh though, I think the Collingwood and Essendon clash is a bit overrated. IMO Essendon in Red shorts would fix most of the issues

Essendon and Richmond do officially clash and if they play twice one team will wear the clash. Of any change occurs this week, which I doubt, the red would be enough.

Agreed, Essendon should actually be made to wear their clash this week. Its the first time I can recall seeing any sort of mainstream discussion on Collingwood and Essendon being a clash. Hopefully its the start of something.

I know. I was talking about the other matches but the fact that Essendon and Richmond have to worn clash jumpers against each other for over 10 years without any issue really shows how unnecessary these exceptions are.

I think public sentiment on clash jumpers is starting to change, and anecdotally I attribute that largely to the 2017 Grand Final and the shift away from gimmicky/cartoony clash jumpers. My old man is a bit of a traditionalist and used to be very anti-clash jumper just because muh tradition. Nowadays he complains when a team isn't wearing their clash jumper - including at an Essendon vs Carlton game a couple of years ago when he said he wished we were in the white. The 2017 GF showed that clash jumpers can be worn on the big stage which still honour tradition and are clearly identifiable with the club while improving the spectacle of the match aesthetically and just making it so much easier to watch.

I think the Collingwood and Essendon clash is a bit overrated.

The clash isn't normally that bad as there is a lot of white on the standard Collingwood home jumper. However with the ANZAC version this year, the Pies jumper appears to be 80-90% black which may cause issues with Essendon's mainly black jumper.

Agree, when we didn't wear our clash against Essendon or Melbourne on Anzac Day and Q-Birthday, white shorts with our home jumper was enough to solve the clash anyway. The amount of red on Essendon's Guernsey makes it some what distinguishable, When Richmond and Carlton play away to us it is much uglier.

I don’t reckon it’ll be that bad
It might not be an issue for you, but think of people with vision impairment, colour blindness, or people sitting 200m away in the nosebleeds.

While we're on big 4 clubs, does anybody think that a royal blue clash for Carlton (like Melbourne) would look nice. It'd look more traditional than white clash, which they aren't too fond on wearing.

I just mean I don’t think it’ll be much worse than other Anzac days, or any worse than any other of the big 4 matchups. Pretty sure Essendon/Richmond is the only matchup there that uses a clash right? It’ll look more like Essendon/Carlton.

Considering Collingwood normally wear a jumper that’s at least got some white on it to provide SOME point of difference, I think it’ll look much worse with both teams wearing what might as well be black guernseys with white numbers on them.

The sash won’t do much on a wide shot on TV or from the stands.

This shits me to tears.

Don’t say ‘we can’t’. You absolutely can. The only thing stopping you from doing it is your precious ‘constitution’.

Not even the constitution, there is a clause under that entry that says (paraphrasing) it's under the discretion of the governing body.

Eg. if the AFL said wear a bright pink jumper with green circles on it, they would (technically) have to adhere to that

To be fair, Collingwood have no issues wearing the white jumper and have pretty much embraced it against any team (including top 4 away matches) more so than Richmond who still don't really want to fully embrace our jumper despite wearing it in a flag

The constitution also says ‘a black guernsey with a red sash’ so their current clash doesn’t even adhere to it.

I think from the clubs point of few the red sash is the most important part of the clubs identity. I would like to see the club have a more distinct outline of the sash on the clash jumper.
