There is no way they are taking 4 quicks to Sri Lanka…none

Depends on the squad numbers surely we aren’t taking more than two frontline spinners. You’d be hard pressed to name the next one on form, Murphy has hardly done a lot this year, Kuhermann would do a job. Do we need more than one spare we’d have Webster who bowls spin if need be

They will be taking 3 and a fair chance they could all play

I’d hope not. Back your strongest suit.

I’m fine with playing 2 though- Webster as a “quick” that bowls spin as the 3rd if need be

Very dumb of the Tassie tailender to run and gift SA the win but you kinda can't blame him for getting confused

He probably thought in moment of madness that it was the last ball of a short format innings, where you keep running & losing your wicket doesn't matter

I'm more harsh on this, any first class level cricketer should have a firm understanding of this situation. Let alone a bloke who's played international level cricket.

Either way, would've been a shocking dressing room to be in after the match.

I'd almost just take one quick and 4 spinners. Murphy, Lyon, Kuhnemann and Swepson/Sangha

I would be happy to play three spinners but just one quick on tour seems like a huge risk.
It's two tests. When you likely have Starc and Hazlewood a short flight away preparing for the Champions Trophy as well if Cummins gets injured in the first test or training I don't see it being a big deal.

At the same venue Galle
And if Marsh or Webster can handle 4/5 overs with the new ball you could almost just play 4 spinners the second test if they use the same wicket. Always turns at Galle.

EDIT: here are the only players to take 20+ test wickets at Galle

Chaminda Vaas (widely acknowledged as Sri Lanka's best ever quick, unlikely to be passed) has 27 wickets at 32 there in 12 tests. Suranga Lakmal has 20 wickets at 28 in 10 tests there and bowls roughly 12 overs per innings. The rest are spinners.

Pick sides suited to the conditions also known as horses for courses

Sure but careful what you wish for last time we did that we had Swepson bowling overs of rubbish in a test match. No issue with Kuhermann who did well in India and is a different type to Lyon. Personally I’d still back Starc/Cummins over there. If we had Green I’d have a different answer though as he’s a genuine quick if need be and probably just play 1 or the other of the two.

I’m not wishing for anything, merely trying to point out that some of your posts need a little more thought. Two Tests at a spinning venue with a week long camp beforehand tells me it’s not going to be a green seamer

Two spinners is enough, Head is as good as a 3rd spinner anyway. He’ll bowl a fair bit there. Starc will be good with the reverse swing and having a lefty is good.

Starc been pretty handy in Galle tbf. 16 wickets @ 15. Has 10 wickets in a match there.

TBH with no cricket around that period I don't know why they don't take a bulky squad.
I'd rather have Sam Konstas at home playing shield cricket instead of having nets in a place we won't tour again for several years, for instance.

Don’t think we take Konstas anyway, the bats in the squad plus say a Handscomb type (horses for courses over there). Good backup bat to have
