Was gonna give th one to TT or Larkey originally but JZ was good in the replay. Atley was good too. The only time he went missing was the first half of the third quarter. And we kept the ball in attack for 95% of that time.
Cunners - 97 votes and another massive performance. Considering the shit our midfield have copped over the last week he responded well. Keep it up please.
Ats - 33 votes. Was in it all game. Attacked thru the middle, went wide into space and opened the game right up enabling us to switch really effectively. He may have his best season this year, so far he's been good. Another "keep it up please".
JZ - 21 votes and he responded well after last weeks debacle. A captains game. And another kept it up please...
Souva - in the votes!!! 16 in fact. Not bad for his third game, first since 2017 - first goal, got three. Rucked, marked in defense and attack, created forward structure and brought Brown space. He looks like he belongs at this level.
Jedly - 9 votes. There was a period during the third when He Cunners and Goldy absolutely dominated Port at the Centre Bounces. For 10 or 15 minutes they flogged them. Jed showed another side to his game this week. He got the ball in space and had some excellent delivery into the forward line. 40-50m passes to the perfect spot for our forwards to run onto. 5 inside 50s. He can keep that up too cos its bloody good.
TT - 8 votes and unlucky to miss the top 5. I was considering giving him the one vote too. JZ was better tho. Whatever "it" is, he's got it.
Goldy - 6 votes. Probably would have had more if he'd kicked that goal early. Great ruck game from Goldy too. There was a period our midfield were unbeatable and he dominated the hit outs.
That's a fair assessment of our best players imo but there were a heap of guys with one vote - Cam Z, LDU, Taz, Hunter and Mason Wood. They were probably the next tier of players too, tho Turner and Pittard were ok and Lmac was better than OK especially before he hurt his knee. Hall had some great moments and some really bad ones.
Oops forgot these:
5 - Ben Cunnington.
4 - Shaun Atley.
3 - Jack Ziebell.
2 - Nick Larkey.
1 - Jed Anderson.
Good to see Jack up there, and Larkey after his first real game as a proper AFL footballer - I don't think he was ready in 2017.
The top three are clearing out after 6 rounds. Who'd have thought Ats was gonna be there at the start of the year? Also kudos to Jed in third place after just 3 of the 6 games.
According to the vote he was our 7th best player but I reckon he would have jumped a few if he'd kicked that goal from nearly in front.
If you take Ats and Cunners out then I reckon those last votes came down to the things we preferred from footy players, not which of them was actually better.
You could probably throw a blanket over Goldy, Jed, JZ, TT, Nick Larkey, Taz and Scooter in terms of how they ranked in our side.
