About 4 or 5 Collingwood players got their hands on the ball before De Goey in that play. It was Sidebottom who fed it out to De Goey on the wing into the path of Murphy leaving the field. If De Goey had a better possession, you can bet your arse he would have taken off down field and laced someone in the forward 50m. Instead because it wasn't a good pass by Sidebottom, De Goey scuffs a shot along the ground, maybe because he saw Murphy, maybe not.I'm not sure if that is the rule but it should be. However, if you are confident that is the rule then I'm happy to take your word as truth. Either way, it was a really bad look for the game. The Crows should've also used that moment to set a precedent for good sportsmanship and not accepted the free kick so that the umpire could've thrown it in.
The only error was that play should have stopped when it because in the vicinity of Murphy leaving.
There were enough terrible calls (Fogerty/Murphy, Butts/Johnson). This wasn't one of them. Also Collingwood could have replaced Murphy while he was leaving the ground, so the coach was wrong on that one as well.
