I'm not sure if that is the rule but it should be. However, if you are confident that is the rule then I'm happy to take your word as truth. Either way, it was a really bad look for the game. The Crows should've also used that moment to set a precedent for good sportsmanship and not accepted the free kick so that the umpire could've thrown it in.
About 4 or 5 Collingwood players got their hands on the ball before De Goey in that play. It was Sidebottom who fed it out to De Goey on the wing into the path of Murphy leaving the field. If De Goey had a better possession, you can bet your arse he would have taken off down field and laced someone in the forward 50m. Instead because it wasn't a good pass by Sidebottom, De Goey scuffs a shot along the ground, maybe because he saw Murphy, maybe not.

The only error was that play should have stopped when it because in the vicinity of Murphy leaving.

There were enough terrible calls (Fogerty/Murphy, Butts/Johnson). This wasn't one of them. Also Collingwood could have replaced Murphy while he was leaving the ground, so the coach was wrong on that one as well.

This is the basis of my point.

Fair enough, but asking the Crows to hand the ball back is a bit much when De Goey no doubt would have sped off towards goals if he got a clean possession out of it.
Yes, point taken but it was a bad look for the game. Not a knock on Adelaide per se so sorry if I put it across as if it were.
I agree, which I clarified here. I know what you mean though, not trying to gaslight you. I do think JDG would've surged forward if possible, you are correct it isn't on Adelaide to concede a boundary throw in, I just would've liked to have seen it as a show of good sportsmanship but to do so in a tight game in the dying minutes was an unrealistic ask.

If there's a marking contest, and the player in front gets his arms or head hit by the player behind, it is normally a free kick.

Thank you.
It wasn’t paid as an arm chop so you got that wrong, and the high contact was soft as it gets, what about the 50 that resulted in a goal to you when the umpire didn’t say ‘stand’? Umpire 19 again I believe, you got an answer for that too?

That game was like watching an Eagles home game in the late 80s early 90s, what the crowd wanted the crowd got because the umpires thought the roar of the crowd was actually for them, and they liked it.

I'm not here defending the umpires. There were a couple of absolute howlers, being the Fogerty hit on Murphy (I was expecting him to go on report for that) and the high tackle on Johnson.

I've had my say on the De Goey deliberate as well. That was just a shit show from the beginning.

The rest of them though were your run of the mill umpiring issues no different to any other game. I don't even know what 50m penalty you're talking about. Most 50m penalties given I have no idea what they're for.

It was very bad, almost as bad as the 1997 semi final between Adelaide and Geelong at Football Park (not paid Leigh Colbert mark)

Most annoying part of it was that it actually made me happy/pleased Collingwood win.

Thanks for nothing umpires, I never want to feel like that again 🤬

Alex Whetton 19, if he umpires AFL next week all hope is gone for our game, if it isn’t already.

Simon Meridith 21, known Collingwood hater, has form.

Nathan Williamson 22

Nathan Toner 25.
