Spreaking of Hippy, does anyone get what the TV commentators were crapping on about when Oscar marked and hand balled off tom Hippy for a goal?

Why is a forward handball after a mark such a big deal and why shouldn't it be allowed?

In the Giants game, there was a similar incident when Linc flew for a mark and then hand balled of to Lachie running past for a walk in goal. Pretty sure that was a forward hand ball too.

I think it was because he was in that restricted section.

Just got back from the coast, Witherden and Answerth were very good inclusions, will be hard for Ryan Lester to force his way back into the side.

We dropped off a bit around the stoppages at times and let them stream through the middle, can't do that against the Tigers or they'll make us pay.

Big O was really good in the ruck and I thought Lincoln McCarthy did some great things as well.

At least when Skinner was in the ruck he created a contest, Ballenden not physical enough, I thought both showed some good signs around the ground though.

Ballenden looked lost in the ruck early. At least in the second half he was able to make a contest. Only his first game and has a few things to work on. Skinner is more aggressive . I'm happy enough that they both contributed and they'll be better for it.

And the top two articles on fox sports is how Essendon were robbed by the umpires :drunk:
Long may it last. When you've played the bottom 5 sides, have injuries and just fell over Adelaide by 3 pts but still think you're a chance is deluded.

Yep, stupidity for the sake of a potential media discussion point that one

On the drive home I was thinking that I don't remember the last time cam played a bad game. Even on a quieter night like tonight he's still a positive, impactful player making a great contribution. Really coming along nicely this year

I would've been frustrated as a Dons supporter but immaterial as to the outcome.
Pretty much this. Though I didn't come here to whinge about the umpiring

Well done on the win, you guys were awesome. Neale is a monty for the Brownlow, and I thought young Answerth more than proved his worth to the side. Good luck for the rest of the year, I enjoyed the chat this week.

CEY to run with Dusty on Tuesday. Answerth is a very good player.
I really liked the lead up speed of Ballenden when he marked and goaled. He is still a kid so I’m going to judge his ruck work in a few years time.
I think we saw last night the importance of having a dominant NEAFL team as when we put the foot down you could see Skinner and Ballenden think “I know what to do in this situation”.

Always a pleasure to beat Essendon. The club I dislike more than any other. Wasn't expecting it to be so comfortable with five changes but the additions all played well with Witherden and Answerth being outstanding. Tippa destroyed us last year but Noah did a job on him tonight. Witherden's kicking was a delight tonight. Kept it simple and made the right choices.

Skinner and Ballenden did what was required of them. Made a contest - kicked a goal each and got better as game went on. Tuesday night will be a bigger test for them. CEY was excellent tonight as well. Did what we needed from him - be a presence around the contest.

Be interesting to see what we do for Tuesday nights game. I wouldn't be the least bit upset if we rested 8/10 players but I'm sure the AFL will put pressure on teams. I do hope we are sensible about it and rest any player who has a minor niggle - such a small turnaround can turn little niggles into long term injuries.

Umpiring was awful and for once we got the rub of the green. Do feel for the umps sometimes :) Three weeks ago everything was holding the ball - now its a lottery. The sliding rule was in for a couple years but now appears to have been forgotten - was a dumb rule anyway.

Good Win boys.

Skinner's 10 disposals, 7 marks and 1 goal is about what we've been getting from Hipwood and McStay this season.
An alternate perspective - he was playing Oscar's role for more of the game in the end, giving him more time around the contest (and hence chances to get his hands on it) than McSwood usually get.

So good to finally have a big win. Went with Neale, Answerth, Witherden, Lyons and Cameron.
And a special mention to Lions 99991, thanks for the memories!

I wouldn't bet against the latter being back, either as is or with a new account. We'll see... :p

As far as I can tell, it's fine - it just allows opposition players to go in to mark Hipwood in what would normally be the restricted area, which is what the commentators finally got to figuring out at the end of their discussion.

His Bomber opponent was entitled to be standing beside him marking up was the issue, slack bombers to leave him unmarked was the issue I saw.
