Re: Ruckman

I keep hearing Hawks are intersted in Jacobs. Might be hard to get him with your first 2 picks all but gone.
Would a straight swap with Dowler be fair or would we need to add a lil more?

Re: Ruckman

But we've been linked to Cox, Sandilands and Jolly. Probably baseless rumour, but who knows!

None of these players will be playing for us. All would want too much $$$ and their clubs wouldn't let them go unless we gave up some big name players.

Charman could be a good player for us, we basically need any fit ruckman at the moment.

Re: Ruckman

While Taylor is our whipping boy and was unbelievably frustrating this year, I do feel he is been under sold here a little. If he can get the free kicks out of his game and go back to 2007 - 2008 form he is actually a good tap ruckmen and equal to those being mentioned. Im sure this problem will be addressed because no doubt this is his last and best chance to grab his spot in a team that 'rested' him in a premiership. Have some faith FFS.

Disagree, a good ruckman should be able to become a link man through the middle of the ground, take marks in defence (or at least help out in the contest), and even drift forward to take a mark or two. Taylor can't do any of these. I look at Taylor and just see a heavier Mark Blake who gives away more silly free kicks. Tap work quite good, nothing to add in terms of the rest of the required package.

Charman could give us this, and I always thought Seaby was under sold by West Coast, and his performances in their grand final years was more than handy.

Re: Ruckman

^^Yeah I said he was a good tap ruckmen, not a good footballer. I was only talking about his ruck work. Obviously we want and need a better all round player but with Burgoyne and Gibson hopefully being traded in, it may have to wait a year. If a Charman or Seaby was going to cost a 4th rounder maybe but that's unlikely. Otherwise we will be looking at trading more players. Sometimes you can't fill all your needs in one trade week period, and the chance of picking up a midfielder of Burgoyne's quality probably want be available to Hawthorn next year. Im hoping the club has something planned but there's every chance Taylor will be our number 1 ruck next year.

Re: Ruckman

Sure we would love one of : Sandilands, Cox, Jolly, Blake or someone like Charman along with Burgoyne and Lake...

Be in reality Gibson, Burgoyne and Seaby would do me just fine.

In fact that would be awesome. We have all 3 defeciences pretty well covered for 2010...

Some people bag Seaby, but to be fair he is the equal of Taylor or slightly better, so there we have coverage and depth for Campbell if he was to struggle with his knee. Again I repeat, we dont need a star ruckman. Add to the fact that If we were silly enough to get one we would fall short filling other needs.

With Burgoyne in the midfield we dont need an A Grade ruckman as we will get more of our fair share of clearances with the quality of our mids. Look when Sandilands taps, the opposition get the ball.

Gibson is no Peter Knights, but he helps fill a desperate need to some degree and gives us a handy extra defender which should improve our defense overall.

Agree, Agree and Agree! People forget Burgoyne is an out and out gun! Gibson and Seaby will be more than serviceable and provide the depth in those positions we desperately craved this year!

Re: Ruckman

hey did u guys hear that jolly is in the market for a return?

do u think we have any chance at all??

i heard we were talking to seaby... i'm happy we are looking to fill that hole

how do u guys rate joel macdonald?

any1 of J.Griffin M.Seaby J.Charman D.Hale T.West we should look at all of them seriously.. now that Campbell will miss most of next yr with Bailey .. but im confident hawthorn will get a recycled ruckmen.. along with Gibbo & Burgoyne :thumbsu: GO HAWKS!!!

Burgoyne is not an essential pick up, Jolly and Gibson are. We have Gibbo pretty much wrapped up with Pick 25 and 1 later pick. I think we offer Sydney Pick 9 and either Kennedy or McGlynn for Jolly. This way we fill our needs, the Ruck and defence, and not lose too much.

I would still rather Burgoyne over Jolly. Shaun is a genuine pacey midfielder with good skills is an A-Grade player and has the ability to be in the best 10 players in the competition.

Jolly is a gun ruckman probably 3rd best in the comp, however I still believe we should go a cheaper option.

We have our sights set on JB. He will be a hawk:thumbsu:

Completely agree. We don't need Burgoyne. We already have a gun midfield with heaps of depth. Think: Mitchell, Hodge, Sewell, Lewis, Young, Bateman...and others don't know off the top of my head, while our number one ruckman for next year will be Simon Taylor. I'd rather work out a trade for Jolly than trade for Burgoyne.

For me, Jolly for Pick 9 + Kennedy/McGlynn/Tuck

We need this...it's either Jolly, Charman or Seaby for us I hope

What would you trade for Charman Hypothetically knowing it would need to be reasonable as he is contracted?

apparently charman going to richmond!!!

WHY ARE WE NOT LOOKING AT HIM!!!!

for a 2nd rounder?

a second rounder that we could get from mcglynn and kennedy going to sydney

that way we can get gibson burgers and charman!!

OMG COME ON!!! am i the only one that sees this possibility???

:(

Re: Ruckman

Pick 9 and Kennedy for Jolly.

I am disappointed that Jolly wants to leave but I would definitely agree to this trade. In fact I think it would be worth the short term pain for the swans.

Its definitely a fair deal for both party's.

P.S. From an outsiders perspective I think the Hawks would be a better team picking up D.Jolly rather then another midfielder in burgoyne.

Apart from Kennedy there is no other player in the Hawks list that I would be interested in for the Jolly deal (A player that the Hawks would release anyway). If the price is right I would trade a third rounder for McGlynn, or possibly upgrade your second round pick. But he is not worth enough to package with a first rounder for Jolly.

With Robbie Campbell gone, I think we're gonna have to serious look at getting Jolly or making a big offer to another experienced ruckman.

Any chance of a premiership will be dealt a huge blow if we can't get a solid ruckman. Taylor will never be able to lead us to a flag imo. Renouf could but still needs a season or two to mature.

For christ sake how hard can it be!

Why do we have to resort to poaching dud ruckmen from other clubs, are there so few tall athletic players in the VFL and minor leagues? What about the NBA???

Heres a suggestion for a flyer

Position vacant:
We are desperately seeking ANYBODY TALL for next season, familiarity with the basic rules of football will be viewed favourably.
Required skills - Must be able to jump and punch.
Preference will be given to individuals who can actually take a contested mark, palm the ball, or even know how to use their foot to place the egg shaped thing between the large white sticks.
If you are TALL please contact HFC immediately.

You'd be silly not to look at Jolly. Yes sides can win premierships without great ruckmen (look at us and Blake) but good drafting is about targeting your needs, and right now you need a ruckmen more than a midfielder.

So if it's a mutually exclusive thing then it's a no brainer.

seaby is a cheaper option. he is not as bad as some make him out to be and is a premiership player. we need ruckmen in case taylor or renouf go down, and the eagles want a second rounder for him, which the swans seem reluctant to give.

if we want ruckmen that badly, then perhaps we could look at a trade for him, either by getting another second rounder by trading a player, or by direct player trade with the eagles, and get him before the swans do.

ie kennedy and morton (if they want another player) to swans for pick 22
pick 22 to eagles for seaby
pick 9 and mcglynn for burgoyne
pick 25 and 41 for gibson (really, 25 alone is enough for gibson)

we cover all areas, lose 2 maybe 3 players but get 3. seaby is still youngish too. a good ruck coach will ensure his improvement.

would love to have jolly at hawthorn but he will be expensive, will need pick 9 which is as good as gone and our offer of players wont beat what other clubs offer.
