How about some more details? What station? Was it a caller? Or an actual host? Were they analyzing whether he should stay or go or actually saying it as a rumour.

It was mentioned on 3AW at 6.30pm and Bucks put an end to it.

For the 100th time. MM has taken Collingwood into it's 3rd sucessive finals campaign. It's only the second time since 1981 (27yrs) that Collingwood has participated in 3 finals in a row. The other time was 88,89 & 90.

We were less sucessful by 1 week compared to last year with No, Buckley, Clement. Rocca, Presti and Rusling, Didak and H.Shaw.

Why would MM leave and why would anyone think his time is up?

Never, Never, Never believe a word anyone on 3AW (apart from bucks) says.

The station that has Robert Walls, Rex Hunt and Caroline Wilson has to be completely against us, what a joke, MM to go, pure BULLS#$T.

Gratz to Bucks for shutting it down.

It's the appointment of Bluey's replacement
Yeah, that was my first response too... which if announced this week means it's not Robert Harvey :(. Not that he was ever likely.

There is no way that I would be replacing MM at Collingwood. IMO, one of the best coaches in the AFL, if not the best, and I doubt that too many other coaches would have gotten this team into the second week of the finals with the injuries and unavailable players that MM had to deal with.

Just shows how pathetic we have become.

Between 1964 and 1981 we missed the finals twice (1968 1976) and played off for the flag 7 times.

And people used to complain then!

We are fast becoming the new Fitzroy.

I mean lets look at 1929-32 4 premierships in a row. Why cant MM get that for us. Actually no thats underachieving we want 5 premierships in a row and then we will be happy with MM.... ?

fast becoming Fitzroy?

YOU IDIOT!

Regardless, what sense would it make for Malthouse to be fired in a season where he outperformed most peoples' pre-season predictions for the team, and especially outperformed what people were predicting for us when we suspended Didak and Shaw?

He's done well with the list he has at the moment - There's no point allowing a guy to rebuild a list and then firing him before they have a chance to mature.

He's actually right, in a way.

MM has landed us 0 premierships in what, 10 years? Is that good enough for the richest club in the land with the best facilites at its disposal? Sure he gets the best from an average list but isnt about time we developed a genuine premiership winning list? It always seems we're a bit off having the required players to go that extra leap and it should be starting to piss people off. People have to realise Prelims and Grand Finals arent good enough for this club.

what do you think we're going to have in 2 years when all our young guns have an extra 50 odd games under their belt?

Why do people continually list missing Rusling as an excuse? The blokes played all of 5 minutes footy. It's time we put this excuse to bed once and for all. Personally it was the absence of Bucks, Clement, Rocca, Heater and Dids that can be put up as a good argument, the others have barely played or were barely present over the last 2 years.

Rusling is perhaps the most overrated non-player on our bloody list.

Gonna, Wooda coulda etc etc.

I was quoting facts. You are citing dreams.

We now are performing to the same level Fitzroy did under Robert Walls and David Parkin. We occasionally make the finals but we never win a flag.

At least under Bob Rose, Neil Mann and Tommy Hafey in 16 seasons under them, we missed the finals once and made 7 Grand Finals.

Under Malthouse we have a less than 50% win rate and similar finals appearance rate.

So think before you type.

so instead of sooking, what do you suggest, hey?

Who is sooking? I am making a valid observation, painful though it may be.

When Fitzroy won their 7th premiership in 1922, they had won more flags than any one else and were a powerhouse of the League. We had won 5 at that stage.

They then had a 22 year drought and won in 1944, their last, but no longer had the most flags. They then struggled for 52 years as their star faded.

Our history is mirroring the history of Fitzory to a certain extent.

By 1936, we had won 10 of our 14 flags and were at our zenith in domination of the competition.

We then had a lean period including the war years and won in 53 and fluked it in 58.

The lean years continued and in 1990 we won the equivalent of Fitzroy's 1944 flag. At the time we no longer had the most flags.

Now we make the finals occasionally (7 times in 18 seasons) and it is been 18 years since our last flag.

There is quite a distinct similarity, dont you think?
