I thought he said it was only his second time hunting, the first going pig hunting, but he didn’t see any.
I’m not sure what they mean in the podcast. Has he changed his story during the interview?

Yep, I went back and listened again when it caught my attention but I'll check in again later

I only listened to it once but got the impression that at the start he told police he never went hunting and then eventually changed it to that he had been hunting before.

I should add it’s not easy to get a pistol licence. GL despite appearing to be a complete novice hunter is absolutely familiar and proficient with firearms. At the very least with pistols.
For someone that really isn't a hunter his interest in firearms is worth noting IMO. His membership in the Melbourne International Shooting Club confirms this too. A lot of people ask this shooting club can they come down and try Pistol Shooting? The answer is Members Only Club you need to join. I can accept many people simply like to shoot guns for fun etc but I always wonder if some of these people have a 2nd motive etc? Power etc?

Sure is! He really is a mystery man - who is the real GL? What events or circumstances brought him to become such a depraved person?
Could have simply been bullied at school etc. He isn't physical and wouldn't have played fisticuffs IMO. I always wonder what was his childhood like? Was he born with compassion? Why would you kill 2 old people just over a drone or camping incident? Why did he take his shotgun if you hunt deer with a rifle? No wonder they had to send in the SOG to arrest him in Arbuckle it certainly wasn't over his physical ability to harm other than using a knife or axe to harm an animal etc.

Maybe he didn't hunt deer very often, but he was stalking other prey?

From a psyche point of view you’re right.
Would be interesting to know if something has happened of significance in his past when he was around 10.

Unfortunately though many people who shouldn’t have a license have.
There’s a case at the Bogie in Qld where a man shot a family of 4 (killed 3) he’s waiting for trial now.
Police had taken his license off him prior to this due to safety concerns and he’d applied and was successful in getting his license back.

It pinged the same time as Hill's phone though and that would be very close to enough IMO. Obviously Hill is missing at this stage but it would insinuate Hill is sitting in the car with Lynn. Very strong piece of evidence so much so that even Lynn knew this as I believe Police told him after the arrest his car and phone were captured going through CCTV at exact same time as Hill's phone. Bear in mind at this point time Hill has been missing for 18 months presumed dead.

Nowhere near enough by itself had GL of lawyered up and kept quiet. The phone coverage area of the Hotham tower is huge right down Dargo High plains road. A ping from a device could be picked up anywhere in this area. There remained the very real possibility that whoever was in possession of the phone did not pass the Hotham resort cameras (Twins Rd provides this alternative for example). Was a good thing that the coppers got him to admit having RH's phone in his possession.

Is he mad or bad?

He was a fully functioning member of society, well paid in a well respected position, member of clubs he held in high regard and liked camping and guns.

The job he held is subject to one of the most intense scrutiny of mental stability known. Pilots do not have off days on the job and any concerns would be flagged

Liking shooting is not an indicator of mental illness

We may assume that he was not "mad" in a strict clinical sense, so I'm going to suggest he was "bad", evil perhaps, suffering from a lack of empathy definitely and lacking from a distinct lack of a moral filter. The same could be said of anybody that kills another person

He hasn't divulged the reasons for the deaths, so any attempt to work out the reasons for them is purely conjecture, wishful thinking or people trying to classify him into a box so they can make sense of his actions.

If you read transcripts and.or depositions of murder trials, there is one thing that stands out. The person was faced with a couple of courses of action and they chose to kill. Some of these, with a bit of mental gymnastics provides an reason for, or justification of their actions

We will never know why Hill and Clay died or the reasons he justified to himself his actions.

The Defence will be unlikely to present a psych report for sentencing; he's saying he's innocent so a psych report will not provide any assistance for the Court when sentencing.

In the aftermath pf the sentencing. there will be a lot of conjecture of Lynn's psychopathlogy. I'd say dismiss that, because no Psychologist or Psychologist will dare state clinical opinion and place their reputation to "peer review" without actually interviewing the person.

He's bad and evil

He's bad and evil
There’s no justification for any killing.
Does make you wonder though what tests he passed to fly a plane and have 400 people in his hands.
Maybe he passed with flying colours due to being a smooth and calculating dude who’s able to think fast and destroy evidence instead of being accountable.

What sort of distance could the ping come from? In terms of the CCTV camera? I didnt think there was any other roads near the camera that nailed him

From anywhere within range of the tower. A huge area. Twins Rd joins up near the intersection of Dargo HPR & Great Alpine Rd.

All things aside the possibility of an alternative route (twins Rd a 4wd track) remained. A mobile phone in the area at the same time as another vehicle does not conclusively prove that said mobile phone was in the vehicle.

GL admitting this helped significantly. When did his appointed lawyer arrive or did they only speak over the phone? Had they been there not a chance GL would have cooperated.
