For others who saw him in the 2014 VFL GF, and after watching Langford do what he did in the 2014 finals, particularly the GF...

If I had told you this time last year that Shoey would have Langford's spot in the 2015 GF... you surely would have glassed me.

Well done, Shoe!

This year I hopped onto the Schoey bandwagon after being one of the numerous naysayers. Loved watching this kid play in our forward line where he looks composed, comfortable in his role, and to my eye, enjoying his football. Now I am hoping he stays with us for a few more years. You've been an absolute revelation.

Deserved the criticsm when he defence as he is simply not a good defender, in fact he's not a defender at all. His move forward, his performance yesterday and his season this year has been amazing, deserves all the kudos and well wishes!

Good on ya Schoe you legend

Really hope he stays.

Would be an interesting move given his determination to stay last year. Guess he's worth more now. And maybe feels he has closure with the club.

I bet the supporters from other teams that loved giving it to him are now spitting chips over the fact that 1) he's a premiership player and 2) he contributed a lot more over the day than they would have thought he would. He was a vital cog in the Hawthorn machinery.

Hannebury or no deal!

Some of his field kicking was just brilliant.
Seems very calm kicking for goal too so good on him hope he gets another contract.

So many brilliant insights in his thread from authentic football savants, which makes it a purely delightful treasure trove of closely and impeccably reasoned judgements:

The mark that he ran around in the goal square allowing Cameron to mark sum up his career, no idea whatsoever, incompetent footballer, anyone that has defended him over the years simply has no idea of what they are talking about.

Cut our losses he ain't up to it and never has been, gee 6 years full time development and he's heck in woefull.suburban player at best.

Would be better suited in the Swedish water polo team. Fcukin awful as a afl footballer.

I don't want to see him in the Seniors again.

He's a good kid but as a key back he's a lost cause and has been for a few years. The club has given him 6-7 years to prove he can look like matching it down back and he can't get the job done. Delist.

He's cost us one grand final appearance already, and last night, he may have cost us a second - although that will be difficult to determine.

Not only is he not up to AFL standard, he is barely up to WAFL/VFL standard.

Please delist him and end this nightmare for all of us, including poor Schoe, who tries his best and seems like a good bloke but is having future life opportunities eroded by augmenting his reputation as a potato.

Love how some think that playing him forward will magically turn him into a decent player.
Unfortunately he isnt AFL standard. His inability to read the flight of the ball and how easy he is moved off the ball won't change playing him forward.
The kid tries his heart out but he is just missing that extra bit of competitive grunt that allows players like Cheney and Spanger to get by with their deficiencies.

After so many years, who would have ever thought that a natural forward who spent his entire junior years playing a high HFF would actually turn out to be a reasonable high half forward flanker?

There may be a lesson in all of this for Clarko and the hawks brains trust.

But then again perhaps not.

Well believe or not I was and many others were right all along that he was not a defender but actually a forward.

I actually called this back in August 2010 so this is not hindsight at all.

To wit:

Personally I don't think Schoey is not a defender's ring and really struggles making decisions when the ball is in his hands deep in defence. He looks far more comfortable forward of centre with lots of space around him. Also he should try kicking right footed in games for the practice as unlike most of our other lefties he is two sided.

It is actually called ...

FORSIGHT

or ...

See, others can play your stupid post an image game.

Unless we announce he has signed a new contract soon get ready for Ryan to be linked to every club that needs a forward until we do or someone else does.

I hope he stays and has more success with the Hawks, having 3 talls who can rotate up the ground is great and with Hale a good chance to retire Shoe's ability to crash packs in 50 will be even important for us next year

The kid is ready for a pay day and I don't know if it'll come from us.. We may not have the dollars he's after?

Apparently had good offers in front of him last season (and I suspect we would have been happy for him to go provided we got some decent draft picks in return, was told he'd be fighting for his spot etc) but turned his back on them. If we want him to stay and put a vaguely fair deal to him he'll stay.

My concern is that we'll see him as something we can get real value for if we are pursuing someone else big. Unlike our fringe midfielders who will only get us late second rounders or worse.

Hopefully we don't. He played plenty of games this year even before he really started seeing form later in the year, because for a great side our KPP depth is pretty terrible. And despite being at the club for years he still has big upside. He's a fantastic kick, and has been great at crashing in to packs and bringing the ball to ground for our elite small forwards. And in the GF started clunking a few too.

I think I would spew if he left now. Long time supporter and to see him go now (and I hope he doesn't) would be disappointing.

Bring back the fork - Gunners, Ruff and Shoe
Just gives us so many more options and headaches for opposition all over again

Yep, I was wrong. But gee he had 6.5 terrible seasons of games.. and then turns into an out and out solid performer and even starred in the Prelim/GF.. Hope he can back it up for some years to come!

Could have left last year and opted to stay, don't understand why he would go now? Throughout the finals he really started to establish himself as a key forward, I think he will stay and continue on (hopefully) from where he has left off after this season
