Yeah that's kind of what I was alluding to before, no matter what you choose in the main story line there's gonna generally be consequences. I dont mind it, its genuinely had me sitting there hovering over picking one option or the next and praying I choose the best outcome that I want lol

The whole sequence after that part I mentioned was epic as ****.

Sounds like I made the right choice to hold off this game until it had a few big patches.

Still have Indy to keep me busy but will likely jump to this after that.

Yeah, I'm probably going to play it now that's it's updated, once I finish Indiana Jones.

I don't think I ever feel like it's an issue to play a buggy game, unless the game breaks for some reason, especially open world RPGs, I always expect those game to break and I save a lot.

I have the original on disc, and it doesn't use Steam.

Hopefully a patch is released for that version too 😬

That's if they release a manual patch which isn't common these days. I have them all on GoG and they'll just deliver it through that. Any update I think will be just the inclusion of some QoL mods that are being included in the recent console port of the trilogy.

Any idea what the mods are? Could I update it to the same version manually by downloading the individual mods?

I think it's a bunch of the unofficial bug fix mods, I'm not sure which exactly but there have been some busted quests since the original retail release that various mods fix.

Console versions are also getting a "next gen" graphics update which I don't think will do much other than better support modern resolutions and some lighting updates and it sounds like that's what they'll be bringing to the PC version too.

Working out how to get some of these is nuts. There are so many instances that demonstrate this is a game made by gamers and not some focus groups. I need to farm some more artefacts too because I feel like I'm missing some of the better ones.

I was also going through my screenshots and thought I'd share a few of the detail and Ukrainian landscape. Unfortunately Windows doesn't capture HDR screenshots the best. They looked much better when I was playing.

Finally got a bit more time to play, yeah this is the goods.

Already so much to do and everything is running smoothly.

Though my god, I cannot get out of the habit of pressing E to interact with things, keep wasting energy drinks.

Opening the wheel when you do this will cancel the animation and save it.

dunno what they've done but the last patch or two has really ruined stability for me; failing shader compilation 50% of the time & much more frequent hard lockups.

Am I just a dumb **** or is this not the hardest game ever??

I've been playing about 4 hours and have died probably 20 times. Enemies can spot me from 100m away when I'm pretty sure my Xbox hasn't even rendered them on to my screen yet. Invisible mutants that run around in circles and are ridiculously hard to aim at, dogs that appear out of nowhere and take me down in 2 bites. Random objects being flung at me til I die before I even know there's a such thing as a poltergeist.

One of those invisible mutants and I'm already down 150 bullets and 5 medkits.
I'm not a rookie at FPS by any stretch either, this game just seems extremely unbalanced.
My biggest gripe is the AI finding me the millisecond that I poke around a corner or shooting at me when I can't even see them.

I'm trying to enjoy it but it just seems so ridiculous even on the medium difficulty setting.
Am I playing it wrong or is this just how it is in this franchise?

It is definitely tough and dying lots is normal, that's why there is a death counter when you die and reload. Don't bother with mutants unless they're in your way for a mission or guarding something you want. They don't drop anything and are spongy so aren't worth wasting ammo or supplies on. Get a pump action shotty ASAP to make short work of things like bloodsuckers (they have an easily readable attack too even when invisible) and poltergeists. Chimeras I still run from. It's still a survival game so always plan your way forward first rather than just diving head first into somewhere and invite danger.

I wish human enemy sight and accuracy was turned down still though but they're still making lots of tweaks to the game.

Also a tip is you move your cross hair over an NPC from distance. If it's green they're friendly, otherwise they'll probably attack you or at least warn you to go away.

The enemy aimbotting definitely needs tuning.

That said the game is very much about picking your battles. If you need to chug energy drinks and run like a little you know what, it may be for the best. The Zone can be an unforgiving place.
