Almost there sh*tbags. For some the season is beginning to wind up, for others the season is coming to the boil.

round 14a.gif

The candidates for this round are are a couple of Hawks and a Rat. It may sound like the premise of a bar joke, but the Rising Star is no laughing matter. Representing the East Siders was pocket dymano 11kgm who had a day out with five goals to his name, and centreman PMBangers who fed his forwards with 26 disposals and 9 marks. Sin City's projectv rounds out the candidates, with the rookie version of interchange 'personality' Headless coming off the bench to kick three goals in a stirring performance.

round 14b.gif

It's all about the East Side though this week, and with an ARSE the size of the current national deficit it's no surprise that 11kgm takes out this round's Gun nomination!

gun 11kgm.jpg

I sat down with 11kgm and his captain Agent93 to discuss the nomination. First up it was the Hawk captain:

Bob: Hey there Agent. The season hasn't gone to plan for the Hawks, but there's some positives in the performances of your rookies, as a second Hawk has now been nominated for the Gun of the Season. How does it feel?

A93: It's vindication. The S30 rookies are a fine crop and the Hawks' duo are the picks of the bunch.

Bob: Big call that. Congrats on getting 11kgm over to the Eyrie. Where did you find him, and how is he settling in?

A93: Hawks LG member Chipmunk brought 11kgm on board from interactions over in the chess board. I believe Chipmunk was playing bishop in the same side as 11kgm's rook. I'm pretty sure that's how chess works.

As for 11kgm at the Hawks, he's settling in slowly but carving out a niche in the FP. There's a big chance he wins the club goalkicking this season but his leading patterns are pretty simple at this stage: he only seems to run back and forth or across the ground. We'll work on that. Maybe shift him to Queen over on the chess board.

Bob: Where on the ground have they been playing, and what are your on-field aspirations do you have for them?

A93: As for aspirations, I think it would be an interesting career track to be that elusive permanent small forward. We don't see a lot of those, and I think 11kgm could make it his own over a number of seasons. It would be very impressive to see him win All-SFA selection at some point in the FP.

Bob: We all know how well PMBangers has been travelling this season. How have you found his work, and are there any rookies from other teams that you wish you had gotten your hands on that go alright at qooty?

A93: You're asking for a Bangers update? He's a qooty monster. He's all over the place. He's trying to re-arrange the very fabric of the competition. He's going alright.

As for other rookies, I've enjoyed the work of tony at the Bears when we've come across him, and the Bombers' Kilroy has blossomed across the season, probably moreso after the departure of Wayneo.

Cheers mate, all the best for the rest of the season. Now it's over to the rookie of the moment:

Bob: Hello 11kgm. Congratulations on receiving a Gun of the Week nomination. A five goal performance from the forward pocket is a good return for effort. What path did you take to get to the SFA, and where did you first hear about it?

11kgm: Chipmunk said to try it after playing chess with him/her. Said it's light-hearted something to do during lockdown. I had never heard of it before him mentioning it.

Bob: Playing chess with an androgynous rodent? Hook me up with whatever gear you're on! What are your first impressions of the place? Are Agent93 & the Hawks looking after you?

11kgm: Yes they are they said they were great at banter and supportive. Agent93 is the ultimate hypeman always liking our posts. Unlike some rookies I won't be changing teams.

Bob: How do you prepare for a qooty match?

11kgm: Forget that it's on haha, turn up late and try to throw in a late sh*t post or two.

Bob: What would you like to achieve on the field during your SFA career?

11kgm: Hopefully here till the end and beating PMBangers to the goal kicking haha!

Bob: Tell me about the name. 11kgm of what exactly?

11kgm: It was my high school login and its kinda stayed 11 the year I left high school Kirk Geordie Mackintosh.

Bob: Shout out to the kids at Geordie Mac. Stay in school kids. Have there been any other teams that have stood out for you on the field, or players that you model your qooty on?

11kgm: Definitely PMBangers I miss having my life partner in the forward line.

Bob: Who else do you think will win the Gun of the Year, and the overall Rising Star? Reckon you’re a shot?

11kgm: Hopefully its either me or PMBangers or someone else from our team.

gun trophy 11kgm.jpg

Your captain reckons SM is in with a chance but I wouldn't be holding my breath if I were him. Anyway, congrats 11kgm, here's your miniature novelty trophy.

How many rounds are left Pep?

Sweet! Now who's got the ARSE to get one? Stick around to find out.

I'm assuming this performance isn't good enough for a Gun Nomination this week?

ROUND 15 - THE NOMINEES

"It Takes Two"

Two weeks to go! And with finals up for grabs, it becomes even more important to perform.

Who will be the Carlton and who will be the Carlton?

There are only two nominees this week.

T2B_ - DRA (110.05 ARSE)

It was a rainy afternoon for the deciding game between the Dragons and the Hawks. And this rookie stood up and delivered. With 20 disposals, 4 marks, a tackle and a goal, he was a key part of securing his team's progress to finals. As the sim said, he massacred TY24 .

projectv - SCS (129.60 ARSE)

Only 50% TOG tells the story of a potential massive performance. Although projectv did move from the interchange to rover, he accumulated some good statistics, looking at 15 disposals and 6 marks. One could only imagine, with higher TOG, what this could become, and this rookie has the highest ARSE of the week even taking into account his low TOG.

WHO IS GOING TO BE THIS WEEK'S “GUN”?

Let's put the story straight. projectv had ONE HANDBALL in 7 minutes as Rover. Everything else was done while playing 43 minutes as CHB.

This has all the ingredients to be another close call at the committee. Better get ready:

round 15b.gif

That's right kids, we've almost made it to the end of a long and arduous season of qooty. So get ready for the penultimate Gun of the Season nomination.

round 15a.gif

F*ck up, Spooky Steve. I'll say what I want.

We have two candidates for this week's Gun. Both have had claims for nominations in previous rounds but have been pipped at the proverbial post by other qooty players. Dragonette T2B_ helped himself to 20 wet touches from a half back flank, as well as kicking a goal. Must have been a helluva roost from back there. The other candidate is baby 'Rat projectv who, in the space of half a match after spending his customary starting position on the bench, picked up 15 disposals and 6 marks. This gave the junior Headless the bigger ARSE and, as a result, the nomination. Congrats projectv!

gun projectv.jpg

I sat down with projectv to discuss the nomination. Joining him is Sin City vice captain jackster83, filling in for captain philreich who is currently receiving a conjugal visit from Mrs Reich. And it was the deputy who I spoke with first:

Bob: Hey there jackster83. Thanks for stepping in for your captain philreich while he's off being a mad rooter. You guys are well in the mix to repeat your success from last season thanks to a relatively mature list, which explains why the Swamprats haven't featured in the Rising Star, apart from GremioPower cracking the whip behind the scenes to keep the rest of the Committee honest. Now however you have a rookie that's been nominated for the Gun of the Season. How does it feel?

Jackster: Super stoked for our rookie, who has shown he has the fortitude and flair to mix it with the big boys. This holds him in good stead for our upcoming finals campaign as we attempt to go #rat2back.

I’m also pleased for GremioPower, who has been carrying on like Qarl Stevanovic after he got axed from the Qoday show.

Bob: Congrats on getting projectv over to the Swamprats. Where did you find him, and how is he settling in?

Jackster:
jackster 1.jpg

In true Rat fashion, we scavenged him from the remains of the Vampires’ unsuccessful bid for season 30. A few handshakes and some sweet talking (the lure of having your posts liked by Power Raid and Quadzilla is a great way to attract players) and he was one of our earliest signings for S30.

He seems to have settled in nicely at the Rats. His inclusion into the side helped propel the Rats to an unprecedented 9 game winning streak.

There was some conflict though, when there was a line-up to use the microwave. ant555 felt that the young upstart had pushed in, and wasn’t showing sufficient respect to his elders. sataris defused the situation by “acquiring” another microwave from somewhere – presumably from the Roys.

Bob: Oof! Where on the ground have they been playing, and what on-field aspirations do you have for them?

Jackster: Initially, projectv wasn’t included in the side, as we treat ‘em mean at Sin City. Us in the LG were keen to get him into the side, but when you are the reigning premiers and are stacked with talent on every line, it’s not easy to find someone to omit.

After a month or so of deliberating, we finally made the move and brought him in for Leviathan Pie, who was last seen hopping on a freight train out of COVID-riddled Melbourne in August. Since coming into the side, he’s been starting on the bench and been coming on for those of us too unfit to run out a game (including myself).

His breakout game came against the Hawks in R14. Brought on early to replace LukeParkerno1 in the forward line, he was a shining light in a close loss, booting 3.3.

Bob: projectv is the only rookie at Sin City after the mysterious disappearance of Mr39. Are there any rookies from other teams that you wish you had gotten your hands on that go alright at qooty?

Jackster:
jackster 2.jpg

Firstly, this is incorrect – at the Rats we have two fantastic rookies (as well as players traded in), the other rookie being the mysterious Gameova_ , who joined mid-season.

Personally, I would have liked us to have secured tony (Las Vegas Bears) in order to strengthen our ties with the underworld. Being able to sell our milk to school children is a lucrative market we would love to break into.

PMBangers is one who goes alright at this qooty business. He often responds to @philreich’s jokes, which is important (as our skipper craves attention). BLUEALLTHRU is another one who has caught the eye, particularly as he is the only member of the Roys still using his original kidneys.

Huh! Well there you go. Wonder if anyone has seen Gameova_ and Mr39 in the same location? Anyhoo, thanks jackster83 and all the best for the rest of the season. Now it's over to the rookie of the hour:

Bob: Hello projectv. Congratulations on receiving a Gun of the Week nomination. 15 disposals in half a game of qooty is a decent effort. What path did you take to get to the SFA, and where did you first hear about it?

projectv: I'd never heard of the SFA until Dingster messaged me out of the blue and asked me if I'd like to join the Vampires, which them and Millky95 was trying to get off the ground. This was of course quite short lived and I was left without a team. I had an offer from philreich and Sab22 (sorry Wonders) and decided to go with the Swampies because they had just won S29 and I am a filthy glory hunter.

Bob: Filthy glory hunter? You'll fit in well here! What are your first impressions of the place? Are philreich, jackster83 & the Swamprats looking after you?

projectv: The team got around me straight away, the beer bongs were a nice touch and really gave me a great intro to the Rats culture. philreich's Dad jokes give me life and GremioPower reminds me to post in the Game Day thread when I spend a bit too much time on the juice.

Bob: You won your first nine games after debuting in round 3. How much of that was down to you?

projectv: It was fun being the Rat’s unofficial lucky charm for a big part of the season. Honestly I thought the sim was rigged and it was probably a mistake to bet big at the qookies in the hopes that Round 12 we’d get the win. I’m now skint so am back to dumpster diving for the foreseeable future.

Bob: Sim rigged? Never heard that one before! How do you prepare for a qooty match?

projectv: It’s hard to go past a can of Mother, some thrash metal and a few cones.

Bob: Your teammate ant555 has won enough cups for 14 girls, and is the odds-on favourite to win the Mobbs Medal this season. Do you rub his bald head for good luck?

projectv: We all do enjoy the occasional rub of his head. He gets a bit grumpy when you cut in from of him in the microwave line to heat up your pizza pocket though, but that's boomers for you.

Bob: The key is looking at whether the veins in his neck are throbbing or not. What would you like to achieve on the field during your SFA career?

projectv: I'm just here for the memes, but winning things would also be fun.

Bob: You've started each of your games on the interchange bench. How much of your game, and by extension your whole persona, is based on noted interchange 'personality' Headless?

projectv: I thought after a few solid performances that I'd get upgraded to starting, but it seems I have more influence on the bench so that works for me. I like to arrive fashionably late to game day threads, and sometimes not at all, so I think my performance on the qooty field mirrors that quite well.

Bob: Fair call. Have there been any other teams that have stood out for you on the field, or players that you model your qooty on?

projectv: I've enjoyed match days against the Hawks the most. It's hard to not like a team with PMBangers in it.

Bob: Yeah I guess so. Who else do you think will win the Gun of the Year, and the overall Rising Star? Reckon you’re a shot?

projectv: It would be hard to go past 11kgm, with such an impressively large ARSE that they have to deserve it.

We'll see about that. Cheers projectv, congrats again and here's your miniature novelty trophy.

projectv well deserved, never seen a bloke so committed to his Qooty

I've never shared this story, but I remember in Round 3 when we faced the Rats, I believe it was an away game, I was walking past the ground after a night of enjoying the fine life of Sin City, and there projectv was, practising ground balls, handballs, kicking balls, the works. I thought to myself "What's the point of being a Qooty player if you don't go out and brag about it on a Saturday?"
But now we're here, with projectv being a prime candidate to win the Gun award and me struggling to stay in the Best 20, wouldn't change it for the world though
