Lord of the Rings is the most overrated tribology ever.
The books are worse, they take 4 pages to describe a tree..than explain another one in similar detail. Painful.

I have no such equal love for the books as I too thought at times they were a slog but the films are sensational. How they did what they did releasing back to back is also mightily impressive.

Probably that its the ultimate adventure caught on film with lots of tremendous fleshed out characters following underdogs with multiple back drops of war and various mythical creatures. And that it is just stunning from a technical stand point also. Can't imagine why anyone enjoys it.
