Embora seu nome oficial seja Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho, este marco carioca é mais conhecido pelo apelido de Estádio do Maracanã. Inaugurado em 1950, o Estádio é o maior do Brasil, com capacidade para cerca de 80 mil espectadores. Já sediou vários jogos de clubes, Copas do Mundo FIFA, concertos e os Jogos Olímpicos de Verão de 2016.
Depois que o governo do Brasil conquistou o direito de sediar a Copa do Mundo FIFA de 1950, eles procuraram construir um estádio totalmente novo. O prefeito Angelo Mendes de Morais optou por construir a nova sede na Zona Norte da cidade, porém encontrou resistência do deputado Carlos Lacerda. Apesar da oposição, o prefeito encontrou apoio no jornalista Mário Filho, responsável pela popularização do futebol no Rio de Janeiro.
Com o apoio de Filho, Mendes de Morais conseguiu avançar com a construção e o local foi posteriormente batizado em homenagem a Filho. No entanto, seu nome popular, Estádio do Maracanã, está intimamente ligado ao seu entorno – derivado do vizinho Rio Maracanã, cuja etimologia pode ser atribuída a uma palavra indígena para um tipo de papagaio da região.
Os Sin City Swamprats estão em décimo lugar na classificação, mas apenas dois pontos atrás dos Old Boys em oito, então uma vitória é vital aqui. No entanto, contra os Hawks do East Side, liderados pela máquina de marcar Tarkyn_24, eles enfrentam uma tarefa difícil.

While its official name is Estadio Jornalista Mario Filho, this Rio de Janeiro landmark is better known by its nickname, Maracanã Stadium. After Brazil’s government won the right to host the 1950 FIFA World Cup, they sought to build a brand new stadium. Mayor Angelo Mendes de Morais chose to construct the new venue in the city’s North Zone, however, he met resistance from Congressman Carlos Lacerda. Despite the opposition, the Mayor found support in journalist Mario Filho, who is credited with popularizing football in Rio de Janeiro.
With Filho’s support, Mendes de Morais was able to move construction forward and the venue was later named for Filho. Yet, its popular name, Maracanã Stadium, is tied closely to the its surroundings – derived from the nearby Maracanã River whose etymology can be traced to an indigenous word for a type of parrot in the region.
The Sin City Swamprats sit in tenth on the ladder, but only two points behind the Old Boys in eight, so a win is vital here. However, up against the high-flying East side Hawks led by goalscoring machine Tarkyn_24, they face a tough task.
