Drop Robert Eddy.

Let's be honest he's done very little for us.

Max can play on either a tall of small so finding a match-up for him wouldn't be hard.

Move Raph up forward, has showed glimpses of being a handy forward.

Will lose a little run out of back line but nothing that couldn't be covered.

This would not be just for sentiment but what does Eddy bring to the team that Max couldn't????

aye RL has 'dropped' favourites like dempster and selected players who seem to be on the 'outer' like baker.

dropped favourite sons like dal, max monty and ball.

go back and watch the game again, while eddy doesn't stack up the stats, he runs, chases tackles and creates turn overs.

RL is picking teams that play the 'ross lyon' method, not on talent.

thats why average players step up.

whether st kilda win the flag or not won't be due to lack of work by the coach.

St Kilda are brilliantly drilled and disciplined, if we lose its because the players are doing their own thing through a brain meltdown and not following the team rules, I'd be suprised, lyon has been brutal at st kilda IMO and its what we needed.

and this coming from a brutal critic of RL 2 years ago

Tru that Eddy does provide good pressure up forward. He and McQualter seem to do a similar job. Seven Tackles on the weekend is a good return but I still think Max would add more to the team than Eddy.

Eddy doesnt get a massive amount of possession. But most of what he does get is contested. The ability to actually earn contested possession is what Lyon rates ahead of everything else.

Plus, all of Eddy's second efforts and 1%'ers count for a lot. He does chase and tackle well.

Ross Lyon is all over it.

I reckon its safe to say that his decision will be the right one.

Max should only come in for another defender. I don't think its worthwhile to push him into the side for a player in another position and risk unbalancing the side (especially if the only option is to throw Raph Clarke forward).

Sorry to intrude on a St Kilda thread, but it was posted on the main board ...

Id be backing Ross Lyon in and his selection policies. There is no room for playing the fans 'favorite' players. Play the best 22 that will win you the flag. If that means no Max then so be it (and ball for that matter)

:thumbsu: Totally agree - you cannot just pick a side that is going to get the fans screaming - they have to be able to play as a team.

drop Raph freaking Clarke, im sick of watching him stuff up time after time

Raph Clarke out, Maxy in, problem solved

For pete's sake - drop it - Clarke has proved himself - I am sick to death of people counting the amount of times him, blake or eddy stuff up etc. What about the amount of points that both Rooy and Kosi kick - or the amounts that do not even go the distance. There are plenty of other players out there that stuff up - yet there seem to be only a few that get constent pressure

This whole Max thing is just taking our eye off the bigger picture.

ie bring back Goose
.

I take it you do not go to the Sandy matches and watch the sandy team play - for starters you would see that the Goose is not up to scratch to play the game plan that we have. Yes some weeks he is one of the dominating players in the VFL but he should be he has played 99 AFL games. Also there is a big jump from VFL to AFL - and he will not be able to deal with it.

I love them both but do not want to see them in just because of their name. Every player must no that they must work and work as a team to remain in the team. I would much prefer to have Dawson in who will be able to go for the ball, no matter what and not have to worry he may injure himself and we would be one man down

Saints fans aren't calling for Hudghton's inclusion just because he is an old 'favourite'. Most of us believe he is still worth his place in our best 22 on merit, he is still one of the best fullbacks in the game. Ask any forward who they would least like to play on and Hudghton's name always crops up.

I don't think there is any question Max is a better player and more deserving of a spot in the team than some of our fringe players like Raph Clarke, Dawson or Eddy. However those players are obviously seen by Lyon to fit into his game plan better than Max. There is also the fact that Max has been fairly injury prone lately that may also count against him. Personally, I would be prepared to wear the greater risk of injury by having Max in the team because he is such an outstanding defender. I also think we could play just as well with Max in the team, if not better.

I don't pick the team though, Lyon does, and I guess with his record this year it's pretty hard to criticise him. However, if we happen to lose our prelim or the GF with Max out of the team you can guarantee he will come under fire from plenty of Saints fans.
